In one of the IDW issues, Jet explains to Whisper that the ex-gear boards will just naturally balance out to match the user's actions (or something like that) Hence why Sonic could use it easily in the intro cutscene :)
I think maybe he just thought it was odd it was presented as an option at all if it were the only one. As though it should only appear as an option either if he’d already started a new game and was coming back OR if there were other off the rip options. (Which, to be fair, there are. Just AFTER you select New Game. lol)
There's a tutorial video in the Extras menu. Yes, it's buried in the extras. But it's been uploaded to UA-cam countless times, I'm sure, if you wanna watch it without firing up the game. The instruction booklet's also an option and is quite detailed - this was before the internet became so utterly entrenched, after all. If you choose to read the manual, you'll find some advanced techniques and details that aren't present in the in-game tutorial video. They're not essentials to simply play the game, but mastering them will help you welcome yourself to the next level. For example, I just read the one in my PS2 version's disc case and found out that you can adjust the angle of your jumps off the trick ramps! I didn't even know that one, and it's one of my childhood games!
Sorry to be "that guy", but completely Incorrect. Considering Wit didn't exist yet in 2006, It was actually Production I.G., the studio who would create masterpieces such as Psycho Pass, Guilty Crown, and Heavenly Delusion. Just letting you know.
You learned the mechanics this quick. I'm legitimately impressed. Took me a couple of days when it first came out. Can't wait to get another PS2 to play my ish again!
you can hold jump button for 1-2 second before jumping and do tricks if you press it immediatly it will not work and it will slow you down, some of the stage if you got a perfect jump and do the trick perfectly it will not slow you down and you will be able to jump higher or faster and you can do backflip or frontflip depends on stage it can send you to the top route and save you a lot of time, some of the ... i don't know what to call it when you rolling stick around, you can boost before get into that section and it gonna be a bit faster, and in fly type the control are inverted if you hold up it will send you down but if you hold down it will send you up and you don't need to press jump before you go fly just go straight to the ramp, if you want to get on the rail with speed type just press jump 2 times before landing on the rail, for the power type just go straight to it, there's a lot of mechanic in this game that it didn't tell you, if you know it it will save you a lot of time, sorry for my English but i try my best, love your playthrough ♥
Riders series is easily the best in terms of sonic racing, it has so much SAUCE (except free riders) Looking forward to you playing zero gravity it’s my favorite
I feel like chat failed in guiding you a bit with Catching wind, grinding , drifting. Im going to tune into the twitch streams, while you play these sonic games.
Ahhh... Sonic Riders... the game that is like learning to swim by getting tossed into the water without any instructions, but once you get it, it clicks hard. I love this game so much.
FYI the fly controls are reversed so up is down and down is up and look for shortcuts with big red signs as power characters, power characters can also punch enemies and objects to get more air :)
I still have this game for GC. Underrated, underrated, underrated. Beaten it many, many, MANY times, because I loved the game and still to do this day!
2:25 The "Licensed by Nintendo" tag on the title screen gives away that it's a GameCube game. All 3rd-party games on the console had to have that somewhere, I guess.

Just like in Sonic Heroes, each character takes shortcuts according to their attribute, Sonic is speed, that is, he takes grind, tails fly and knucles power To get the grind just press the jump button twice, the power shortcut just goes, the fly shortcut is inverted up and down
Damn man, that's brave to say you got the game off a website. I wouldn't be doing that in a recording. XD Also there is a real PC version of this game. The only reason people still use the Gamecube version is because the fan made DX graphics mod was made for the Gamecube version. I think the Tournament mod uses the actual PC version.
There’s a bunch of shortcuts you’re missing. If you hold the jump button and press jump right at the edge of most ramps you can get a boost and go higher to another platform that’s usually faster than the normal route. Also taking advantage of the characters speed, flight or power type are also shortcuts. There is an actual tutorial lol You can also do the tornado move he does at 1:51:18 to attack opponents behind you
There was no L1 and R2 on Gamecube, there was only a right bumper called the Z button. That's why many PS2 games only used a single bumper or both did the same thing. On Riders both buttons did the same thing which is the drift.
Did he know, while playing this, how to actually connect a landing on a rail? I missed if he realized or had it explained to him. Wasn’t sure if that’s why he kept missing or not. Since they’re kinda finicky to land on in general regardless. lol Also this is the first time in a Sonic stream I’ve seen him quietly lock in but didn’t seem like he was in an angry mood, rather an extremely competitive perfectionist mood. And if that’s the case, it’s kinda cool that Riders brought that out. It’s very tough all of a sudden by that last stage but it doesn’t feel like you accomplished something when you actually beat it. As though you went through harsh training to master the game that’s a bit tough to get used to at first but actually really fun once you do.
If you plan to do the other story which you should cause it’s different tracks and has a continuation of the story here’s some tricks you should know about. For the ramp jumps is to hold to charge up the jump for a bit then let go at the peak and depending on the ramp you either hold up or back to get to shortcuts 8:20 These ones is where you hold forward to go further to reach shortcuts. 9:04 these ones where it’s angled up is where you hold back to jump higher to shortcuts. 38:43 for these fly ramps no jumping is required most of the time. Some fly shortcuts do need to be jump from trick ramps though. Alright good luck if you do play the other story
You can honestly skip free riders. But zero g i feel people hate on it too much i had fun with it. This first game i would have liked more if you weren't busy micromanaging the air
I love the music and story and concept of Zero Gravity…. I even like the gameplay eventually. But it was much harder for me to learn than this one. This one was just jump, boost, drift basically. Zero Gravity had unique moves I didn’t understand if I was using right or wrong and no way to boost. I recall when I finally got it for myself, it took me half the game to get it and I just… got it. Then when I streamed it, I had to relearn it. Then I played it with my wife and I never quite relearned it but we did fine sorta? lol Oddly, some ppl find that one easier and this one as having the learning curve.
@Axxidous it wasn't even hard people didn't like the gravity mechanic because drifting was practically gone as use it for turning instead or even jumping off stuff. This one is bad just because of the air micromanaging and the fact trying to take character specific short cuts like speed and fly don't always work
@@Animewatcher352 Oop that's right. I forgot. They got rid of boosting AND drifting which is probably what made it a bit harder. This game wasn't bad. Like I said. For me it was easy. Just jump, boost, drift. Manage your air which is a cool way to give people an advantage or disadvantage. It was fun and easy to control. Zero Gravity was just weird and wonky. But that's something I really liked about the 2 Riders games. Some people found Riders easier and Zero Gravity finnicky, others find Zero Gravity easier and Riders finnicky. Not many people mature or skilled enough to just like them both differently tho. lol
@Axxidous that's not fair to say only zero gravity and free riders was wonky and gimmicky. This game is too. I don't know many racing games that tell you to race but manage your resources. You had more fun with this out of your own taste. Zero gravity i had more fun with. Because with less to worry about the better the race.
@@Animewatcher352 That's why I didn't say only Zero Gravity and Free Riders was wonky and gimmicky. I didn't even mention gimmicky.... I didn't even mention Free Riders! lol I'm kinda coming at this in a "both games are good, but different people have different experiences" kind of way and you're trying your damnedest to struggle with that ideal so I'mma just discontinue the convo. lol
Does anyone know how to download sonic riders and sonic riders ZG on pc? I have it both on CD for my ps2 but I no longer have the cables or controllers, I have to satisfy this urge to play them since I haven't played in 10 years
bro mustve went into this game not knowing who tf team sonic was or who amy was amy strength can match knuckles XDD and sonic could get up to a floating island by himself many times
maybe the real tutorial was the friends we made along the way
This game is REALLY underrated they need to bring back these series back
Underrated? These games are highly loved by fans (Except Free Riders obviously)
@Neo-Metal17 Yeah but they're barely talked about compared to other stuff
@@lukescrew1981 That's overlooked not underrated.
@@Neo-Metal17 I guess
@@Neo-Metal17 Free Riders is fun if you remove its main gimmick (Kinect controls)
Playing Free Riders No Kinect Patch is so much fun
In one of the IDW issues, Jet explains to Whisper that the ex-gear boards will just naturally balance out to match the user's actions (or something like that)

Did that really need explaining?
@@lukescrew1981Right it would be cooler if the boards needed a learning curve and Sonic is just a fast learner
@@lazymorris5293 That's always what I assumed happend. Tails also could've figured it out quickly.
Or Jet believes that because he’s naturally talented with boards.
The art style for the opening scene still holds up as a completely unique arty style for this series/Sonic as a whole :D
