    And yes- so important to teach your horse because it’s not the ferriers job

    I am so very glad to see that your farrier is all about bare feet! 😊 The more I learn, the more I appreciate channels like yours for giving us information like this!
    Thank you both! And, lots of scritches to Dream for putting up with you two talking about the process of treating her feet.

      @@meghannamaste6425Hi, I made a separate comment in the main comment section but was so pleased to see I could tag you directly.
      Is there any chance you could treat some of the severely foundered horses at Horse Plus Humane Society, Pony Tales or any of the other ‘Full circle of life’ rescues? It’s so sad because a lot of the severe foundering cases are put to sleep, especially if they have other overriding issues. I wondered if you could help in the less severe cases? I’ve often mentioned to them about the Farrier colleges, that maybe they could help but haven’t got very far. Your specialist knowledge is crucial in the horse rescue world. 🙏🏻❤️

    Would Meghan be able to visit organisations like Horse Plus Humane Society and Pony Tales to help some of the foundered horses in their care? It’s so sad because a lot of the horses are put to sleep due to severe founder. I was just wondering if some could be saved with this process?

      I totally agree with you. Sadly it's time consuming, expensive and difficult finding a farrier like Meghan to help those poor horses with founder. It's heartbreaking watching the rescue channels. Seems like a lot of people are not willing to help save a horse with founder. This video is so important that people can see that it can be fixed and Dreamer is such a good horse and was worth all the work ❤❤❤

    One thing I think people should look at before what happens happens, in this case a founder, is insulin resistance. There is a certain time of year to test that a good vet should be able to advise. We found a product called Insulin Wise from Kentucky Performance Products. It was recommended by one of our Vets. Horses may or may not drop weight. I have a gelding and two mares on it. After a year of I retested the two mares. One tests normal the other is high normal. The gelding is a bit of a troubled soul. Having him confined to a dry lot would probably cause him to stress himself into a founder. One other thing. All but one of my laminitis cases on our farm has been this time of year. My vet and farrier gave me the same explanation. Years like this one where the temperature up and down cause hormonal fluctuating which can set off a metabolic event. We must be diligent year round because it's not just eating lush spring grass that sets it off.

    • @VersatileHorsemanship
      @VersatileHorsemanship  7 місяців тому +1

      I am very fortunate in this situation as Meghan has generously donated her time, effort, and supplies to continue her own education with dreamers hoof care rehab. In my experience, It all depends on your definition of expensive. I woudn't say anything about horses is "cheap". When looking at the long term health of an animal that was on the verge of being euthanized, this type of care is a good investment for the future. Preventing this sort of situation in the first place is ideal, but in this case, I'm just thankful that the horse should make a complete recovery.

    So fascinating to watch this, where her back feet completely unaffected and sound?

    • @VersatileHorsemanship
      @VersatileHorsemanship  7 місяців тому +3

      As far as I know, the hind were not affected. I’m sure Meghan will respond to questions as she sees them, she can tell you more about that

    • @meghannamaste6425
      @meghannamaste6425 7 місяців тому +5

      Horses can founder in all feet but most commonly the front feet are affected. They distribute 60% of their weight to their front end so the front feet take a beating so if there is weakness or inflammation it's more likely to come to a head in the fronts. She did wear the Soft Ride boots on all 4 for a while and I was considering shoeing her hind feet based on her movement but it turned out to be body stiffness rather than hoof discomfort that caused her to move that way. We have a fabulous equine massage therapist that worked on her and literally transformed her body and movement.

    Wow what an education in hoof care. Megan horses are truly blessed to have you championing their foot care. I've never seen thus process done before. Do you know if it's a process done in Great Britain and how much longer do you think it will be before Dreamer is without special protection on her feet?
    Awesome work both of you.👍👏👍

    • @meghannamaste6425
      @meghannamaste6425 7 місяців тому +2

      Daisy Bicking, one of my teachers that I learned this method from teaches internationally but I'm not sure if any of her students are in Great Britain. I will be keeping Dreamer in composites at least through spring and then reevaluate. We have a very wet environment here and mud is very damaging to hooves that are compromised. She may always need some sort of protection during peak mud season or her hooves may get strong enough that she is unaffected by it, only time will tell.

    • @pippakay7234

So much knowledge and expense and time required to help Dreamer resolve her founder problems. Thank you for making such detailed, educational videos. Your explanations are so clear and I love you ask questions for us and the procedure unfolds. Another excellent video.

    This was one of of the best instructional videos I’ve seen on hoof care. Tell Meghan (sp) thank you, too. I still have trouble understanding the mechanism of action or the connection between diet and laminitis.

    • @meghannamaste6425
      @meghannamaste6425 7 місяців тому +2

      Thank you so much! Laminitis is a hugely complicated issue and it can be hard to do a concise explanation of it, the equine hoof itself is an incredibly complex structure. I think that's why I like hooves and hoof care so much!
