    I too followed Deans Hatcheries. I tried several sized bottles and tried repeatedly until I started using 2 liter bottles. Now I have very good success with BBS produced daily. Thanks for the video.

    I have the same set up and use the same water bottles. What I use for a lid is the black plastic top from a 10.3 oz plastic Folgers coffee can. Lid fits perfectly and keeps everything from rusting and keeps the noise down from the bubbling.

    This hobby can become a full time job and I don't think the wife is going to let me hang those in her kitchen...LOL I think I will have to keep buying my brine shrimp for now.

    Excellent advice Sir 👍
    Thank you for sharing.
    I don't have chloramine in my municipal water system but i do have chlorine. I use it straight from tap without any dechlorinator and it hatches perfectly.
    Maybe you can try an experiment with your tap water without dechlorinator add normal salt and see if it hatches.
    Additionally it's best to keep the bbs eggs tin in freezer. I only portions out how much i need for 2 weeks supply and keep in ziplock bag also in freezer. No issues in hatching and yes i also use brineshrimp direct brand. Works great.
    Let me know how it work when you try it in straight tap water.

    Hey the eggs keep going down the hose that is used for dispensing what do i do

    • @JadrenAquatics
      @JadrenAquatics  3 роки тому +1

      If the eggs have hatched the egg shells will float if they are going out the dispense tub they are either not hatched or you did not let it sit long enough after turning the air off

      That’s my problem as well -the unhatched eggs in the bottom with the baby brine shrimp. I can’t risk unhatched eggs in my aquarium (I have moon jellyfish, the smallest is about the size of a nickel and eating even decapsulated eggs could be harmful to the lil guy…) I have mesh nets that are ‘supposed’ to strain eggs from the bbs, but the egg strainer traps far too many hatched shrimp along with the eggs.

    You will get a better hatch rate with straight unconditioned tap water. ( as per what Den said). Shorter hoses will mean you don’t a hose full of baby brine shrimp ALL DAY . Do they say alive in the hose between feedings ?. Ex tip . Each day you have 2 litres of old salt water Keep that in a spare tank with an air stone. If you are using marine aquarium sea salt you can grow out the brine for a few days. Adding yeast as food. I know they are not as nutritious but I know you will enjoy the fun of feeding bigger live food. The best ziss filter for bb is 0.13 I think you just got the words wrong? The grow out adult brine use the ziss 2.0 with a 0.13 stacked under it to catch the newborn babies. Great video thanks for sharing. May your God bless you .

    I use the disc hatchery from brine shrimp direct. No air needed just water, salt and eggs. Great for 3 tanks since I don't feed everyday. They usually all hatch in 16 to 24hrs. The one small jar you had just ran out 6 months later.

    Jason, what is the airline you are using as did not see it in the links. I am tired in my fish room of fighting cheap airlines to even connect to sponges/nipples and so forth. My tubing is hard to bend and I'll admit cheap by the bulk, but It looks like yours connects easy and leak proof. I would rather spend a lot more for a good, flexible, easy to connect airline.
    Thanks!

    Use a piece of sturdy plastic rod, drill holes and run it from left to right (through the bottom of bottle)with overhang on each side..then you can hang it from the excess rod without it rusting as well as use same hanger for multiple bottles!

    What type of salt was that? Sea salt kosher or iodine salt? What did you wrap your bottles with or did you paint them blue?

    • @JadrenAquatics
      @JadrenAquatics  4 роки тому +3

      Non iodized. Yes I painted the bottles with normal blue spray paint.
      Thanks!

    No matter what I do, my killer whale fry won’t touch baby brine. Should I try adult brine shrimp or go back to the neighbor’s kids?
    With these burbling bottles hanging from the ceiling, the long tubes, all those buckets, and a banner with a crazy monster on it; you do realize you are a mad scientist, right?
    I haven’t hatched brine since... um... the very early 80s I think. I actually know how now so I should give it a try. Of course, all my fry now are pleco types...

    Is it possible to make some up then freeze for later use? Yes they won't be alive and wiggling but wouldn't it be better than the freeze dried for adult bettas?

    For the hangers, just buy some stainless steel wire.

    Cover the wire by putting it inside some air hose

    What you said about the chlorine and chloramine is not correct. Apparently according to the man who started the Brine Shrimp industry and designed the hatcheries said the chlorine and chloramine help to soften the shell of the egg, so it is not necessary to use dechlorinator.

    The reason why BBS is so popular is "logistics". It's really not the best, most efficient and certainly not the cheapest live food for fry, but there is nothing out there beating its logistical benefits of unlimited shelf life. And you can teach most people to hatch BBS quite quickly and consistently, whereas other live food takes some more frustration and patience. It does seem though that feeding BBS does lose you more fry even when it looks like most of the batch take them. A good alternative are Moina, which also compare favorably in feeding studies. Even easier, for the smallest of mouths, "Walter Worms" and Spirostomum sp. or milk infusoria are easy to culture. High protein content is always nice, but it doesn't seem to be that crucial in the first few days. It seems like almost anything alive in the right size will do. I've heard that some breeders of honey gouramis, for example, have even started their fry on wheat meal, 30 years ago. They don't do that any more, obviously.
