I agree completely with your final assessment. The Beats aren't great for long term day use -- they either slip out a little bit if not hooked in, or the hook wears on your ears after awhile. But for a run, they are spectacular. I just did the Chicago Marathon last weekend, and they never fell out or gave me any pain the entire way. If you can afford to have BOTH of these, do it, but if you are mostly concerned about running, go with the Beats.
If you use some foam ear tips instead of apples supplied ear tips, the airpods become even more comfortable and never fall out. Ive run 30k in the rain without any problems.
These are an improvement over the 1st gen buds. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxK5mc3yw4xA7Mf2j6k6n1Uqv_KUgrKdeM Pros: The fit is fantastic. This is the biggest plus. They stay in my ears when running and become unnoticeable. They are tight but comfortable. The sound quality is about the same as the 1st gen buds. They pair more easily with my LG G8 ThinQ and immediately reconnect when removed from the case. The sound balance is excellent, good but not overpowering base and clean mid tones and highs.Cons: The noise cancellation is good but perhaps a little less effective than the Bose ANC on the 1st gen buds. Passthrough mode as not as good as the 1st gen buds making it a little more difficult to hear conversations when in passthrough.
I ran a 5K yesterday with my AirPods Pro 2’s in, using the small Apple foam tips and they didn’t budge out of my ears once. Also did a 15 mile bike ride with them a couple of days ago. These fit WAY better than the AirPods Pro 1’s did. The 1’s always fell out for me.
Great review. I loved my gen 1 AirPods Pro, but they just couldn’t last more than a few feet running before falling out of my ears. Other runners can do it, but my ears are weird. I picked up the beats fit pro, and they’ve survived a marathon with me. While both are great headphones, you’re right in it being a personal choice and people’s experiences can vary
One of the best and honest reviews out there. As a rider I totally agree with everything. They both have an amazing sound quality and I really love the Beats fit pro but decided to keep the airpods because the Beats after long use kept hurting my ears and the next day couldn’t even use them. Also the case is more comfortable and feels way more secure!
Love this review. Especially because you compare it so directly to the beats fit pro headphones, which I feel completely the same way about. Excellent breakdown also because you compared all of the features to real life usefulness and to other primary options on the market, rather than just explaining what the feature is. And interesting choice of watch you are wearing now that you are in possession of the AWU :-)
If Apple updates the Beats Fit Pro to have the same modern features as the Airpods Pro 2 (including the case features), then I'll buy the new Beats Fit Pro for running and keep my Airpods Pro 2 for casual mobile listening. There's definitely a market for both.
It's all fit for me. The AirPods Pro and Pro 2 simply don't fit a decent percentage of the population well, at least during fitness workouts. The Beats Fit Pro fit nearly everyone very securely, sound fantastic, and have the vast, vast majority of AirPods Pro 2 features, and all of the original Pro features. If you are fortunate and the AirPods Pro 2 fit you very securely OR you plan on only using them for stationary listening on the train, plane, etc. then go that direction.
You’re right on with the casual use vs athletic. I bought some Culoda ear wings to use while running. They work great just so long as it’s not down pouring. I never find an issue in day to day life but moving my jaw while running they would feel insecure without some extra retention. If my gen 1’s go out I won’t hesitate jumping to the 2s
Adaptive transparency has been great for running. My Jabra’s suffered from wind noise, so I’d turn the transparency off and ANC on when running safer sections. AirPods, no problem, I can still hear the music and surroundings.
I really like the clean bass thats produced from the Beats Fit Pro. I usually bring the Airpods on planes, but tried the Beats and they blocked out enough sound for me to enjoy a movie.
Dave, I’m going to go broke if I keep watching your videos! Thank you for putting in the legwork! I have the beats fit pro also and I do like them for the most part but the ANC is not $200 worth, The sound is decent however. The call quality is super important so I hope it’s still apple quality and done well. The security of fit on the beats fit are so much better but at the cost of comfort for long periods of wear. The pro 2 would fit even more securely with some comply foam tips and the ear hooks work nice with them too but you need to take them off to fit in the case.
I have them both. I bought the beats fit pro when I lost the AirPods Pro 2 left bud while doing exercise. Now both are amazing buds but AirPods Pro 2 are just not for any sort of exercise. They keep falling out even while just walking and on call with someone. They have just a slight edge over beats in term of overall sound signature..Surprisingly beats have a better call quality then AirPods Pro 2. Though the beats in my opinion are a better buy when you consider the price and fit. If you can afford keep them both
In fact, the Beats Fit Pro could very well be the ultimate earbuds 🤔 They have the U1 chip for automatic switching between Apple devices, and now thanks to the new Google Fast Pair update, all devices that have it can switch between all Android devices linked to the same Google account. Sony implemented it on its earbuds lately, and if Apple plays the game, the Beats Fit Pro will really have a very big advantage over any earbud in the world.
Great review. You are the first and only Vs review so far. I’m not a runner, but just looking to see if I should get them or not. My fit pros are AMAZING! But can always be better. I use them mainly for work. Conf calls and zoom.
There's only one reason why I always get the AirPod pros. They are the only headphones I have ever worn that I forget that I'm wearing. That says everything
How is the bass on the AirPods 2 compared to the beats fit pro? I love bass and the Beats fit Pro do extremely well in that department. Is the bass on the same level as the Beats Fit Pro If not better?
The Beats Fit Pro have been my daily drivers since November and I still love them. The new AirPod Pro 2s are like a slight step above them in every category and I’m kinda sad about it lol I guess I’ll just have to alternate
I love my beats fit pro i think I will stick with them till the upgrade version of the beats fit pro and see how they are. They just fit my ears perfect and with the dual flange tips you can get off Amazon they are great.
i've had my gen 1's for years now. have run in the rain, in hot and cold humidity, not to mention every day use and flying time. have yet to break them, but really looking forward to the new ones!
I bought some silicone wing tips for my original AirPod Pro's and they work great and keep them very secure, you have to remove them to get the Pods back in the case but it's no real hassle
Interesting. I find the fit of the AirPods Pro to be more fatiguing than the Beats Fit Pro because it’s resting on the bottom side of my ear canal and the squeeze control kind of forces me to yank on it a bit. Very subjective indeed. Great video!
The Airpods Pro 2 haven't worked for me. I see how have other earbuds in some of your other vids. Do you have a second recommendation? My main priority is a pair that consistently connects to my iphone (Airpods have been inconsistent for me!).
Great review. Do you hear any loud thumping noise from your feet while running ? I guess this is related to the seal of the in-ear design and I am forced back to use Airpods. Sitting still in the office or travelling is great.
"Best transparency mode on any earbuds I've tried before, by far!" and immediately contradicts the statement hailing Sony as the best.. I appreciate your time and effort for this video regardless.
Depends so much on the individual, my beats fit pro fall out all the time, I don’t have the new AirPods Pro, but I love my AirPod pro 1s. For anything active like running or riding I like my shokz
thanks, finally someone says something about the ANC ist overriding the wind noise. It makes me crazy that no reviewer is speaking about that issue in ANC earbuds. What would in that regard?
I’ve had mine about a week. And as a runner I was curious at that perspective. The left one feels secure, but the right one feels like it’s trying to bounce out of my ear. I have tried different ear tips, and still experimenting. With a set of foam tips possibly help that?
Very detailed review! Nice work Dave! 👏🏻 I think it's that long term comfort that I always worry about when buying earbuds. Thanks for covering this 👍🏻
Agreed! Had the Beats fit Pro and I thought they out performed the AirPods Pro on every level except their almost equal ANC. The only caveat, and it was a huge one, was the comfort over long periods of time. Couldn’t stand them after 1.5 hours they just hurt too bad. Went with the AirPods Pro since then and now waiting on my new Airpod Pro 2’s 👍🏼
I used to have the Beats Fit Pros, but lost them and could not longer track them and ended up purchasing the Beats Studio Buds, which I found were more comfortable and did not cause ear fatigue/pain vs the Beats Fit Pros. I would have considered the AirPods Pro 2 if they had USB-C and came in other colors, such as black.
The Beats still have more bass but the Airpods have a more balanced sound signature and the mids are less scooped out which I prefer in most situations.
Original airpods would always fall out my ears, But I gambled and got the airpod pro 2 and the smaller ear tips do help massively for me, I was so tempted to get the beats fit pro for the hook aspect I wish they had the internals of the airpods 2! I would have got them but for gym I got some ear hooks for airpod pro 2 and its all good now!
I've always felt uncomfortable with earbuds due to concerns about them falling out, so I use the AfterShokz Aeropex Bone Conduction Sport Headphones which works really well for me, although the button on the left side is a but awkward to click and on occasion I have accidently done a phone redial instead of skipping a track!
Why not just going for the Apple Airpods and buy accesory like the wings or hooks that you can strap on specifically for doing sports? I was thinking on doing that, don't you think those accesories are good enough? Thanks
Great view, check out the Wyze Buds Pro too, my go to for running/biking/everyday. Has most of the features described above. Based on the in depth review, I can skip this Airpod gen.
I thought I had a lot of earbuds but that box you dumped out makes me feel a lot better. Looking forward to getting my Pro 2s tomorrow because my right gen 1 has started crackling whenever I take a step or touch the earbud. I think it's an issue with the ANC/Transparency mic because it only does it when I have both in and if I disable ANC/Transparency it stops. Hopefully these are built better because I've had my gen 1s less than a year so I'm gonna get them warrantied and sell them. EDIT: I got them warrantied and they work perfectly fine now.
I’ve got new AirPod Pro 1 few days ago in an Applestore because cracking sound is a known issue for Apple. They change them after 30 months after I bought them.
Mine is arriving tomorrow 🥳 I used the regular pro for everything for 2 years.. one of the best purchases…but I broke the case.. best one prob for all around if you do use the for work etc…
I love my AirPods Pro, but not sure if I’m ready to upgrade. Was thinking of a pair of the Sony for running for better audio quality than my aftershocks. Keep AirPods for everything else.
Tell me why a seven year old pair of Bose can intelligently switch between my MacBook and iPhone and the AirPods Pro 2 cannot?? Also.. the case drains like 20%+ battery each night. But.. big but(t): the sound, anc and transparency mode make those seem small. I’m dead in one ear and can hear out of it again with the AirPods.. and that’s not even why I got them. I wanted something easy and waterproof for working out. They are quite amazing and even with the flaws (that firmware can fix) I still think they are worth the $250 asking price. Also the 2020 MacBook Air and Mac Mini.. all worth what they cost.
That's odd, I use my airpod pro 2's on a daily basis and they switch between my macbook and iphone pretty seamlessly. Occasionally I'll need to manually switch my macbook audio to them but they'll be paired... just not selected. I also have no issues with battery drain. Then again, I could just be lucky. Thanks for sharing your experience.
The best thing about the 2nd generation is the fact they eliminate tunneling. Which is the sound made by your feet hitting the ground with a sealed earbuds. V1 is garbage for exercise compared to these. It was the worst problem for v1.
So sad, I used to run with the Airpods Pro Gen 1 but the way it seals in my ears causes ear infections. After trying many things like changing tips, using a smaller tip, and using drops I had to go back to the regular Airpods. I wish there was a fix but I don't think I will ever be able to run with my Pros.
@@properfpv7160 I wish that would work, I have done tons of cleanings and it did not fix the issue. My ears go crazy once they are plugged and I start to sweat.
i bought my first pair of airpods (airpods pro 2nd gen) and people always say they are the comfiest coz they just sit in your ear BUT IT CONSTANTLY FEELS LIKE THEY ARE FALLING OUT AND IDK WHAT TO DO i put the small eartips on and i still have the urge to just dig it deeper into my ear💀
I would gladly daily drive the beats fit pro that hook is amazing but the case is just to big for my liking. I'm sure it could have been smaller but since they are gym buds first I guess the assumption was they will almost always be in a big bag of some kind
Awesome review, Dave. As always, you have great perspectives and provide useful info. But I am pretty concerned with the long term quality of both Airpods Pro and Beats Fit based on personal experience. I've never had a pair of either that lasted more than one year. I had to return my first Airpods Pro four times (!!!) due to loud popping noises in the first two months of use. I got the Beats Fit Pro after watching your review, and they were may favorite pair ever for running, but after 10 months, I now have loud (possibly ear damaging) popping noises occurring at random intervals. I run trails all the time and sometimes deal with heavy wind. Maybe that's the issue? But I also have a pair of Jaybird Vista 2s, and they do not have those issues after two years. Bu tthey also don't fit as well as Airpods Pro or Beats. I'm not sure I will drop $250 on Airpods Pro after those experiences, but I'm tempted! Thanks again for the great reviews!
I had the Beats Fit Pros for less than a week prior to returning them. They feature über cheap build quality, and the sound doesn’t touch these new AirPods Pro. Beats operates as a subsidiary of Apple with their own design shop, and it definitely shows. Compare the overall build quality of AirPods Pro & Max to the Beats equivalent.
Super helpful, Iv'e heard that there are after mark products that you can get that can hold the AAP2 in the ear if you are one of those people for whom they fall out easily
Dave, any thoughts on headphones while wearing a beanie? My morning runs often start with a beanie. I’m leaning toward Air pods Pro 2. I run and work out in morning but also typically wear throughout day. I also prefer simple connectivity. I get really frustrated pairing and unpairing other devices so passing on Vista jaybirds 2. Thanks
@@ChaseTheSummit Thanks, The Airpods Pro 2 nd generation do not. They keep giving me annoying disconnecting sounds every 10 sec. This started happening after the latest iOS update. Very frustrating, I do not know if I should return them or keep them.
Thanks for this video. I now have 70% chance of getting an Airpods Pro 2 after watching this. I’m just still worried about the sweat. I know it’s sweat resistant but since I sweat a lot most especially if I’m running, I’m not quite sure if they can stand a chance? 😂
Apple needs make air pods like the Samsung galaxy buds pro with the wing tip. I say this because I have cauliflower ear and it’s hard to keep ear buds in. I’m not to fond of the over the head headphones for I like the small sleek look of ear buds. I do own the gen 1 air pods and love them and look forward to getting these despite the physical difficulties. If any one has suggestions on how to make this more comfortable, I’m open to suggestions.
Man, I’m kind of afraid to buy them I’ve had 5 pair of apple earbuds ( not these) and all 5 pair ended up having connection issues or stopped charging should I take another chance
If these had USB-C I'd have already ordered..... Just need to decide if I can ignore that for now, it is handy they apparently charge using Apple Watch chargers as well so that gives me another option, hmmmmm
Thanks for the review. Has anyone found the wind noise the AirPods Pro 2 pick up whilst cycling extremely noisy compared to the 1st gen? (Or found a way to fix it?). I find them unusable for cycling or walking in windy conditions
Mine will arrive tomorrow. I have the Beats Fit Pro which have great sound, good fit for running but less good ANC than Airpods Pro 1st gen so the difference with the AP 2nd gen will be even larger. The Beats charging case is a shame though...flimsy, difficult to open and made of cheap plastic. Disappointing every time I pick the case up.
How is the sound of the App2 compared to beatsfitpro? Sound stage & bass are key featured for me . How do they stack against each other ? Will appreciate your reply !
I have an issue with airpods and aipods pro flying out just walking let alone run. So I don't feel like purchasing the new Airpods Pro 2 if I will face the same issue. Yes I have tried all the different size buds that come with the pros and still have the same issue.
So I have the beatsfitpro and airpodsmax . But I’m thinking about upgrading to airpodspro 2 . Do you think it’s worth it ditching my beatsfitpro ? Nice review btw !
Depends, what do you mainly use them for? I like the Airpods Pro 2 as "every day buds" but the Beats are better for running/fitness stuff in my opinion.
They function as basic earbuds with Android devices. ANC/Transparency mode can be manually triggered from the earbuds by holding the stems. There's no in-app settings like adaptive transparency mode.
I agree completely with your final assessment. The Beats aren't great for long term day use -- they either slip out a little bit if not hooked in, or the hook wears on your ears after awhile. If you can afford to have BOTH of these, do it, but if you are mostly concerned about running, go with the Beats.
And if you go with the beats, GET APPLE CARE. The wing tips are prone to failure if you have really deep conchas. I have learned that the hard way.
If you use some foam ear tips instead of apples supplied ear tips, the airpods become even more comfortable and never fall out. Ive run 30k in the rain without any problems.
Thanks for sharing!

@@dwaynemurphy8229 I grabbed the Comply foam tips as they were the most popular on Amazon.... Works great.

Same!
You can get a free replacement from Apple. Offer ends this month. Call Apple asap
@UCrRa6Z7BgRbag5FuG8nEP6Q it’s a trap!
You didn’t mention which one better or sound better. Thought that’s whole point of vs
Great review ! I just got mime delivered today did not try them yet coming from AirPods Pro 1st generation.
Great review! I actually use my beats fit pro for running and the air pods pro 1 for daily use as you recommended! 😊
Has the tunnelling effect been completely eliminated? This was reason I bought AirPods 3 over pro 1s
Use isopropyl, clean your ear tips and ear canal
@@properfpv7160 I wish that would work, I have done tons of cleanings and it did not fix the issue. My ears go crazy once they are plugged and I start to sweat.
And this how a good review is done.. thank you! 😀
Im waiting for a review of pro2 vs beats fit pro!! Finally 😭😭
Haven't had that issue myself. Are you saying your sleeve went under the watch? or covered it?
Great video, thanks for great content!
Was wondering if I should upgrade from 1st generation? Thanks
It’s not a massive upgrade but maybe if you want some of these new features?
Now I do not see a reason to change my JBL Endurance Run at the moment. Maybe when it dies on me I will go for the Airpods Pro. Thanks for the video!
I just purchased these for my sons birthday present. I’ll be getting his fairly new Gen 1, so it’s a win win 🤪
It was a great video exactly what I needed to see.
Quick question: Which micro do you use in your video while talking face cam the sound is amazing !?
Rode NTG5!
Beats fit pro are my all time fav running earbuds
i bought my first pair of airpods (airpods pro 2nd gen) and people always say they are the comfiest coz they just sit in your ear BUT IT CONSTANTLY FEELS LIKE THEY ARE FALLING OUT AND IDK WHAT TO DO i put the small eartips on and i still have the urge to just dig it deeper into my ear💀
Bummer! There are some third party accessories on Amazon to help secure them. Maybe try that?
@@ChaseTheSummit i should try that maybe
I really like the Beats Fit Pro's but the case build quality is a bit of a bummer... Though I use mine daily and they haven't failed me yet.
I have issues with microphone when both used ppl can’t hear me rather than wid one it works great I don’t know what the real issue is
2nd gen sound really good. I mean sennheisser momentum good.
Super helpful, Iv'e heard that there are after mark products that you can get that can hold the AAP2 in the ear if you are one of those people for whom they fall out easily
I've heard the same. I'll have to grab some!
Chase you really did it again, thank you i'll buying these earpods pro 2 .
The case also works with the Apple Watch charger which is new for this 2nd gen version
Yep! That's actually the charger shown in the video. I should have been more clear on that!
Good video all explained in a pretty easy way thank you!! keep up with the good work!
Thanks
Does transparency mode Airpods Pro 2nd generation work with an iPhone off? The 1 generation used to. Thanks.
Yup it works without a phone nearby
@@ChaseTheSummit Thanks, The Airpods Pro 2 nd generation do not. They keep giving me annoying disconnecting sounds every 10 sec. This started happening after the latest iOS update. Very frustrating, I do not know if I should return them or keep them.
Do you think they fit better than first gen? I've always had problem with fitting my left AirPod.
Thanks to the added ear tips yes but we all have different ears so your mileage may vary.
For me the most important part is the call. Why they couldn’t add a mute mic feature!!!
That would have been a nice touch!
Great video.
Thank you for the effort,it was really helpful
Subscribed!! Finally a running specific channel for tech, clothing, equipment etc. Amazing job 👏🏾
Thanks!
Thanks for this video. I now have 70% chance of getting an Airpods Pro 2 after watching this. I’m just still worried about the sweat. I know it’s sweat resistant but since I sweat a lot most especially if I’m running, I’m not quite sure if they can stand a chance? 😂
Great review!! But hows the bass performance? I have the the Beats Fit pro and the Airpods Pro 1. Is it worth upgrading?
Beats have more bass but I prefer the balanced sound of the AirPods Pro 2. They both sound great though!
You can get wing tips on amazon that fit airpods. I want to try those out!
@@ChaseTheSummit they don’t fit in the charger you have to take them off and put them back on every Time.
I work 12 hrs a day and I keep my beats fit bud in for hours and it doesnt bother me. Different by ear i guess
Man, I’m kind of afraid to buy them I’ve had 5 pair of apple earbuds ( not these) and all 5 pair ended up having connection issues or stopped charging should I take another chance
Between the AirPod Pro 2 and Jaybird Vista 2, which would you recommend?
The Vista 2's are arguably better "running buds" but the Airpod Pro 2's are more convenient to carry with you all day long.
What's that watch band you're wearing?
Unfortunately we all have different shaped ears. Have you tried something like the Beats Fit Pro?
@@ChaseTheSummit that’s what I am thinking of actually getting after watching your vid 😊
@@khalilismyname did you buy them?
@sir I sure did and so far they are amazing.
@@khalilismyname i heard they start to hurt to wear after a while, do you agree?
Ok. I just ordered one. Thanks for the info m8. Can’t wait to check them out! 😄
@@ChaseTheSummit I barely run. But I actually bought them for running 🥹. I think I need to start running
thank you for the amazing Video, it helped me a lot! But one other question: which Countdown App are you using on your iphone
Thanks! It’s just called “countdown” and it’s free!
They need to get away from "Gen" and other confusing numbering schemes and just go with the release year
Hi, could you elaborate about the features you're restricted from when using these earbuds with android?
They function as basic earbuds with Android devices. ANC/Transparency mode can be manually triggered from the earbuds by holding the stems. There's no in-app settings like adaptive transparency mode.
Tha is for your review. Do you feel they’re any more or less secure than the previous version?
They're similar but I think the addition of more tips will help more people get a better fit.
