Yes, in Indonesia also during the 90s. I remember us kids modify the dynamo to make itbl run faster. There are even the chinese knock off version of Tamiya.

@@Z3NBluster It's actually a pretty fun minigame in Yakuza 0. Finding and buying parts, setting up your car...it's like an entire game inside another game. Also I didn't even know these type of slot cars existed until I played Yakuza.

So they're basically larger self-propelled Hot Wheels like cars...
Not sure if I can really get into that, I'm more of an RC guy, but I love the styling of some of the cars. Seeing that Tamiya came out with their new TC-01 chassis which seems to be designed with both open and closed wheel designs in mind, I wonder if they're planning on making RC versions of some of the Mini 4WD cars...
Larger self-propelled Hot Wheels cars? I guess that makes sense.
Generally what happens is that they make the RC versions first then if the body design is popular enough, they make a Jr. version for Mini 4WD.

I remember there being hotwheels scale version of these things decades ago, they were also modular and pretty sweet. Just charged them up on a dock then let them rip on the track. I can't remember the name of them though, maybe someone else remembers ?

@@Z3NBluster That's the exact right idea, but they ones I'm thinking of looked more like these tamiya 4WD than regular hot wheels cars like the XV did. They came as kits you assembled, so you could swap the wheels, motors, gears, bodies etc between them all.
