This is so emotional. 13:00-13:30 just kills me every time. 😢 Love the French horns, especially when they hit every note.
I had the honor of performing this at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp back in the late 80's - Amazing piece to push onto a bunch of teenagers at a band camp.
What a genius piece of music. I break down in tears almost every time I hear it
"Dude I fuggin love birds" - Messiaen HAHAHA!!
he actually said that, no lie

A superb analysis, Anthony! I love how you broke it all down; thank you for your meticulous insight!
That middle section with the low clarinet and percussion had all the incantation and dance vibes lol
not untrue at all, Zach
If I had to recommend a piece to do next it’d probably be First Suite in Eb by Holst. Such an amazing and iconic piece of concert band literature with a lot of cool stuff going on underneath the hood.
Joseph Soto I would recommend David m unending stream of life
I swear I love all the moving parts at 181. Gotta be my favorite section (Flute 1)
Great work here, man - I love these videos. Keep at it.
10:03 night on bald mountain???
You might like Fantasy Variations on Nicolo Paganini by Barnes. Lots of interesting and fun stuff there.
14:33 i would cry
Please do Divertimento for Band by Persichetti!
