    Is the orange line strictly to control pulley travel on the haul line?

      This was a very basic setup with what we had at hand. So yes, the orange line was only a brake line (friction around a tree stump) to control the pulley travel. One could of course have that line run throug a pulley up in the tree and put a winch on the other end to have the pulley travel both ways. Would give you more options and control, rather than just use gravity.

    how did you load up the tension the orange rope

      We just pulled it tight by hand. It tightens up more when the white rope is tensioned. This system needs enough space between where the logs are picked up and where they land.
