Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Review from a 20 Year Old Riders Perspective. You May Be Surprised!

  • Today we discuss the Royal Enfield Intercepter 650 modern classic motorbike, through the eyes of a 20 year old. This motorcycle is one of my favourites, and it would be really interesting to get a better idea of the age demographic who ride these sorts of bikes.
Let us know if you've got one and how old you are! If you're a young rider (lets say under 30), do you like it, or would you prefer a modern bike with more pointy plastic?
I believe this motorcycle is one of the best first bikes for A2 license holders and one of the best all rounders money can buy. Great bang for your buck with the royal enfield's! I take the bike to the beautiful Eyebrook Reservoir in the lovely Rutland countryside on a warm sunny day.

70 years old and got one. Compliments my Super Meteor 650 and Scram 411, even had a Meteor 350, but that was too tame. Been riding bikes from 1969. So enjoy every moment of it, while you can. Once a biker always a biker.

22 year-old from Germany here. Passed my A2 test, bought an Interceptor and didn't regret anything. Looks and feel aside, the range of aftermarket parts available for the bike is easily my favorite thing about it - I just put on a new tail light and indicators the other day! A new set of pipes and wider handlebar may be in the cards as well, but I've got some research to do first.

I am 66 years old, started riding at 13. Just purchased a 2022 Royal Enfield Continental 650 GT. The appeal of this motorcycle at this time in my life, is phenomenal. I also have a 1980 CSR 650 inline four Kawasaki, which I made into a cafe racer with the help of my wife, and still own. Back to basics with the Enfield 650, my new passion in motorcycling, and definitely a keeper! 👍👍🏁

I'm 58, started riding at 15, and agree. I've had tons of bikes with more power, but somehow the RE 650 just reminds me of why I love riding. She's a trusty steed. I got the Interceptor because I like a bit more of an upright riding position (moto-cross background), but those GTs are so nice looking.

I really love the retro styling. It also seems to have everything you need without too much distractions and general clutter. Plain driving fun! Just got my full license and have ridden some more powerful bikes, but this one really gives me a special feeling. The engine sounds like a well-oiled sewing machine and the pipes give some nice little pops here and there.
Definitely buying one for myself when the funds allow it!

53 and got a meteor to shuffle back and forth to work. Shortly after I bought it, there was a steal on a 2021 interceptor with only 320 miles. Well for $4k US, it was a no brain'er. Lately I've been looking into riding again, and I've loved seeing what Royal Enfield has to offer. It reminds me of that CB750 character and simplicity that I love. Basic motorcycles that have old school character to them that are simple and not super fast. This is honestly the only style of bike that has ever appealed to me.

The 650 RE is a very nice engine with LOTS of potential inside when/if you desire it. They actually built a 60+ horse motor then restrict it to 47...but as long as you get a Euro4 version it's really easy to bump it back up. Air filter is very restrictive as a first mod then eventually you have proper headpipes and cans along with either S&S or Kent cam and you end up with a LOT more midrange and top end without losing anything down low. To make the pipes work even the Euro4 ECU needs tuning....suggest the PowerTronic box which is a lot more flexible and useful than the Power Commander because it can control both fuel and ignition timing as well as offer a plug-in Quick Shifter. All these are available from PC but you have to buy a separate ignition and Quick Shifter module which is $$$$$. Without ever pulling the head the 650 easily matches or exceeds the period British Twin performance and still gets 70+ mpg's (USA gallons). Great bike!

What i love about this bike , for older riders taking care of this bike is easy no end and it will never overwelm you , it will get you any place you wish to go , for young riders its power will not put you in trouble when a young buck gerts over zealus , more so you will learn how to care for it without all the new fangled electronics , in both cases you will have cash left over to travel or getting yourself travelling equipment or parts to make it a bit more sporty without braking the bank . For myself it is just a fantastick ride option that keeps me in touch with what is the joy of riding in its pure simpleness . By the way i am 76 now and still love riding especially this past present iteration of a Royal Enfield

I was 57 when a friend taught me how to ride a bike. In Belgium, when you have a 40 year old license, it allows you to ride just about anything, so no worries about paperwork and all that. That first bike was an old Honda 125CBR, but soon after I got the hang of it it died on me. So I bought a two year old demo interceptor from the nearest dealer. He told me I would never regret it, it would grow on me. After the little 125, it was like riding a storm, but I loved it from the first try. Two years later I still love it. Don't let anyone tell you 47hp is lame, it is so not. And one more thing: Mr Darcy had some corrosion on the review bike. Mine was out in the Belgian weather every single day for two years and you still need sunglasses to look at it. It Reminds me I have to go clean it.

I am almost 61, been riding 44+ years, had over 40 motorcycles, and up until buying my Interceptor new in 2020, I had never kept a bike very long, so that shows just how much I love the Interceptor. I have upgraded her over the years, I won’t bore you with the details (I did a vid recently with those), but there are more things to come. I just wish it had a bit more “oomph”, but will hopefully be buying a pair of big bore downpipes fairly soon, which might just sort that a bit. I am very brand loyal, as I also have a Classic 350, and promote the brand at every opportunity, but RE want to be a bit careful on their pricing. I paid a staggeringly low £5200 for mine in 2020. Yes the dealer gave me a bit of a deal, but the RRP was well under £6k back then. Now it is heading towards the price of the other, better equipped, and quicker bikes out there. If Classic looks aren’t important to a rider, and they are perfectly fine with pointy plastic things, or the amazingly spec’d offerings from China, then sales will definitely be affected, which will be a real shame. We also need to mention the distribution/warranty cock-up. The sacking of the importers (MotoGB) before having set themselves up first, is definitely having an effect on buyer confidence. All that said, I still love my RE’s, I just hope they sort themselves out asap. Judging by the demographic of viewers of my channel, the main age group of people showing interest is 55-64, though with the increase of councils reducing speed limits, increasing the use of average speed camera’s, making provisions for police camera vans etc etc, that may change in the future. As usual, thanks for sharing, and showing your love for RE’s.

I am 68 years old, and bought my Euro 5 'Inty' new last October. Having been off a bike for a while, I wanted ideally, something like a 650 Bonneville. Obviously the required price for that was out of the question, but when my brother turned up on his Inty, and let me ride it, I was sold. It defo doesn't disappoint. It is an ideal all rounder. We cruise country side and highway alike without any issues, and I would say it would make an excellent tourer too. I have changed pipes and silencers, colour coded side panels, and a rack, which is only fitted when needed. I have changed the handlebar mounts for the Motec units, which raise the bars one inch, and pulls them back by the same, and I have added a colour matched wind deflector and a custom seat. It's clearly my bike now and I love it.

Beautiful bike. 52 now and after 12 Years of non-riding (a bike) I think about it to get one again and this one is (with the T120) a great choice. We´ll see. By the way ... stunning landscape ... like in everyone of your videos. Unreal. I think I gotta take my family and move there. 🙂

44...I've had mine for about 1 1/2 years. It's a very fun bike, but I find myself riding my Speedmaster more often. My 16 yr old son however loves it and rides it every chance he gets. I've kitted it out with new suspension and knobby tires for cruising around on all the gravel back roads around here.

67 years old and been riding bikes all my life - Amongst those when new - Yamaha RD350, Honda CB400f,Suzuki GT750,Honda 750K1, Kawasaki 900 Z1B. Yamaha RD400. Honda CX650E. Honda CX500. Gotta say though the 2020 Interceptor gives me the most pleasure to ride - Its fun to ride and so easy to maintain. Or maybe i am mellowing in my old age! Cheers Ian (from Queensland).

I brought a 2022 Orange Crush Interceptor new as my 2nd weekend bike and love it to bits .
I have put slip on mufflers and K&N air filter that's opened it up nicely .
I have a sports bike with 75hp as my daily and when I jump on the Interceptor the ' Grin Factor ' out ways the 50hp RE with ease , and that SOUND ! .
    I am 55yrs old and been riding for over 40 years , from 500cc 1952 ES2 Norton's to late 80's Japanese 4 cylinder 140hp rockets .

64 years now. I have been riding my entire adult live, got various bikes ever since, mainly big endurance bikes. During the past years I enjoyed my HD Ultra Limited, did some long trips on it together with my wife. Love this bike, I really do. But when I am driving alone, I thought it would be a good idea to get something smaller, more agil. Bought a 2020 Interceptor recently. Did some modifications towards a scrambler style. What can I say, I love this bike as well. When entering my garage, I am spoilt for choice now.

I also forgot to mention that a riding school won't lend you a bike for the test unless you have done the whole course. Also you cannot ride a A license compatible bike to the test on your own because you are not licensed to ride it until you have passed, so it's a catch 22 situation.

My first road bike was a 1972 Yamaha XS650 these vertical twins are so cool. Ive owned many touring bikes Goldwing and Harleys still have a road King. But recently purchased a triumph thruxton got great deal on it and really enjoy it.
I was seriously considering the Royal Enfield interceptor. And probably would have purchased one. I'm 68 years old and have cover @ five hundred thousand miles touring I'm at the point that I want to trailer my bike to the area's that are my favorites and want a bike that is lighter easyer to handle and my riding pals are on the same page with me so this type of bike is a real winner in my eyes has great looks riding feel and sounds. Great bike ,I've had mine three years, done 10,000 miles on it now ,no issues, I bought it as a retirement present to myself as a sunny Sundays bike but I ride it more than my other bikes (a 2014 650 Vstrom and a 2000 SV650, the Vstrom is for two up touring with the missus and the extra luggage😅) the SV was project rebuild. now as I enjoy it so much! It does it all, a short fifty mile evening ride or a five hundred mile camping trip around Wales no problem.
Some people complain about the seat, the more you ride it you get used to it .
As for my age I'm 68 and have been riding since I got my licence at 16 , never stopped, I dread the day that I will no longer be able to ride.
So I take every opportunity to ride.
    Great review, cheers 🍻

All my contemporaries keep telling me I should be riding an Enfield but I like my pointy plastic bike too much. (The fact that it’s got 42 bhp has a lot to do with it).
