Sewing machine! First one - borrowed from my SIL. Lived the craft - hated the machine! Couldn't wait to return it to her and spent a long time trying to think of ways to say "thank you but your machine sux". 2nd machine was a Brother that works great, but about 2.5 years ago upgraded to Janome for it's increased throat space. Now I can quilt as well as piece. While it may seem like alot of machines for a 5 year sewing history I have no regrets because what I learned from the earlier ones made the best possible purchase when I got the Janome

I used your older Tshirt tutorial years ago and I saved each segment to my computer . Looking forward to seeing your updated series for doing T shirt quilts . In the near future I will be making a Memory T shirt quilt with Harley Davidson Motorcycle logos on the tshirts in Memory of my niece's husband who passed away this year . Thank you for redoing these tutorials for the T shirt quilt .

I am excited to see this. My kids are in college, but I saved the favorite elementary school t-shirts ages ago. I like the options for different blocks. Can't sew now, but can maybe work it in for the fall in time for Christmas.

My mom bought my first machine at a yard sale. I was so excited but it sucked. I thought I was just terrible so I stopped sewing..never sewed until about 10 years later I pulled it back out and realized it wasn't me. I bought two machines off Craigslist and was able to make some little pouches. About a year later I paid about 350.00 for my first Brother Innovis Project runway addition. I still use it today. I also have a Husqvarna Viking, Janome, and 3 other small machines. I've gifted two to other people. I just bought an industrial for bag making and would love to someday purchase a long arm

It's incredible how big of a difference the right machine can make! Aren't you glad you picked it back up again?

I’m working on a quilt as you go t-shirt quilt right now for one of my granddaughters. I have all the shirts cut and interfaced (using front and back of all the shirts as she requested). Looking forward to watching your series especially when you get to the quilting and choice of thread color. See you next time.

I asked all my kids if they want a t-shirt quilt so the backing will be based on their preference. I think they will like this idea more so than a quilt. Plus, they all know they will not get it until Christmas. We are expecting a new addition by then this year and everyone is excited.

Thanks for your comments on sewing machine. I have a relatively new Singer, basic model and I have had the issues you mentioned. I thought it was my skills because I sewed with Singers for more than 50 years. My mother had one and that is what I learned on. I bought this one never intending to quilt. Stephanie B. can give the rest of the story...

I don't have enough t-shirts for a whole quilt. Can combine fabric squares with t-shirt?

I made a t-shirt quilt for my son-in-law of his favorite team. Used a team fabric for squares in between the t-shirts to make it to the size I wanted. Worked out really well.

Yes, I used woven for sashing but for softness get more Tshirts. Go to thrift shop. It won't be your memories but you can find some cool ones. I made a Faith based one from thrifted shirts and found enough silly or funny shirts to make a second quilt

You can do that, or you can go to a thrift store like others have mentioned. Also make sure to look for other elements in the shirts you have such as artwork on sleeves or backs.
