Those Mirage drives are a clever bit of kit.
Sam Holmes and his girlfriend sailed a Hobie 16 from Florida to the Bahamas in addition to cruising the islands. It was a cheap used boat. IIRC they paid $350 for it initially.

These are great no doubt but the price is staggeringly high for most of us.
Always wanted a tandem island, but they're just too expensive for what they are.
Yeah thats what I reckon, i'd love one also but I can't justify the amount of cash for what you get, it's way too expensive unfortunately

Tell the truth people.
The Hobbie Tandem Island is NOT a boat.
It has a lousy CE rating of "D" and is registered as "floating device ".
Look it up.
Shit down wind performance.
Absolutely NOT sealed. Water flodden hull after 2 hours.
The holes in the sterne for the steering cables are under water.
If you install motor, the rear hatch will add additional water in the hull.
The dagerboard is one-sided.
The so-called "spinnaker kit" virtually destroys the mast mount.
In little waves, the rubbers what should "hold" the outriggers will do exactly the opposite. They fall off.
Cheap plastic/polyethene. Deformation in weather above 30°.
The most overpriced piece of crap ever sold to public.
Get yourself a WindRider 17 and you will be happy.
Hobie????
Never ever again.
