  • Billy talks bilge, we run into some communication issues, and the bottom finally gets a fresh coat of paint! Mountain Myst is starting to look mighty fine! First page of my rule-a-matic bilge pump install manual, "no check valves". Boat builder installed one anyways and the bilge pump never worked reliably.

Have to admit I thought this was a bad idea. But of course I'm not them, so couldn't choose for them. But now it seems like a great idea. Mainly, cuz it got them back into the boating world, which is why most of their viewers subscribed. And, seeing the transition from something that was esthetically ugly to now almost esthetically gorgeous has been something to behold. You guys completely rock. :-)

Guys, you guys need to buy a communications set. These are great for setting the anchor, pulling the anchor, docking and leaving the dock, communicating from a stormy deck to the cockpit, and communicating through the hull. Get a set. You'll love them. You pay for what you get. Crappy units are cheap. Good, quality units cost good money. Spend the money and get a good set!!

What I have always done in the past is take a flat screwdriver and punched it through the bottom of the lip in about four or five places. That allows paint that goes into the lip to drain back into the can, and doesn't interfere with the lid from sealing..

Tricks for keeping paint out of the can lid lip groove: I see you've in the past used the tape method - cover a part of the can lip with 2 pieces of tape to form a vee to pour over. I've sometimes had trouble getting the tape to stick well to the can lip. The other method is save a can lid off empty can and cut out a hole in center part (close to an edge) of the lid.. knock the lid onto the paint can and pour through that hole. Make the hole big enough for your brushes you might dip into the paint and can then scrape excess off brush against that hole in the lid. Hope I make sense and save someone some trouble of keeping paint or whatever out of the can lip.

Just joined your crew. Jeannette and I have owned two trawlers over a 25 year period. The last was a 47 foot Tradewinds. We lived on it for almost 12 years. We spent most of our time on the east coast of the USA and months at a time in the Bahamas, mostly Exumas. We have since sold our big boat and own a waterfront home in the Florida Keys. We have been following you since your engine rebuild in the Caribbean. I love your passion and enthusiasm for the boating lifestyle.
I sometimes want to sell everything and move back aboard. We miss the lifestyle and numerous cruising grounds.
Question......We have looked and follow many blogs of Catamarans. When will your boat be done?
Thanks for the entertainment. We love watching you guys.

Omg the communication breakdown through the throughholes was hilarious. You could have done a Seinfeld-tier comedy bit with that. Btw, why do they call it "muriatic acid" when it's just hydrochloric acid? I never understood that. Seems like you'd have to wait longer to get any appreciable help with the hard growth.

    • @karaDee2363

I believe the muriatic acid/non diluted hull cleaner works good for normal growth or soft growth. I had an unpainted hull on a 2006 Bayliner that I didn't clean it right off after the season. It took off all the soft growth right off without even needing to scrub or brush most of it. Hull looked brand new.
