My husband and I bought a funeral plan years ago. Now after 14 years of paying for the insurance damn thing we decided to be cremated. We got a nice chunk of change back. We plan to be cremated.

I agree with what you said. We aren't having any fanfare. Cremation, ashes put in a cardboard box, and buried in the plot with the bronze plackard we already paid for. The kids wanted our ashes buried or we would have had them thrown into the Gulf. It's ok since that is their comfort level.

I agree with you 100%. I am not a religious person so that makes things a little easier as far as death. I dont want this to sound like a "Poor me" thing because it just "is what it is" and thats actually fine with me. I have no one that comes to see me or hardly ever contacts me including my immediate family so I just want to be cremated and my ashes disposed of however and as soon as possible. I do not want anyone to waste their time on me. What I want is for everyone to close the door and forget I ever existed and then for them to move on and enjoy their lives as much as possible. For them to enjoy each day as much as possible is what always brought me pleasure so my plan seems to be the easiest for that to be accomplished in the future. Until then, life goes on and each day is a new day that brings with it endless possibilities. Have a good one!....note to self....buy some pork rhinds...lol

Everyone deals with death differently. I don’t fear death. I feel as tho I have a destiny. The older we get the faster time moves.

Hello Dogman. As a veteran of 20 years in the Air Force I will be buried in a National Cemetary for Veterans . I want other Veterans to see my grave marker and salute my service to my country. Being buried, whether it's ashes in a box or a casket, is there meant to honor your service. I like the idea of someone going out twice a year and seeing my name and rank with that little flag and recognizing me for my service. I'm a Vietnam Era Veteran. Never went to Vietnam, but I worked the Flightline on Okinawa. During WW2. We lost thousands of Americans to fight those battles so WE can live free. Now, we have an administration that's doing everything they can to take away those very freedoms from our children and grandchildren.
But someone will recognize me for my service. Most of my parents and grandparents and other family members are buried in a little town in Eastern Washington called St John. And hopefully I'll be able soon to go visit them. My father was an Air Force Vet who was in Korea for 2 years. Not the normal tour of duty when your in a combat zone. We lost (in my interpretation) that warehouse of political interference, just like EVERY OTHER WAR that we've been involved in. So, I would urge you, get the full measure of your military honors you deserve. Screw the politicians. Get what you deserve Bro.

When my dad died it hit all of us hard, and it was like being tossed in the ocean in a little boat. We had the funeral five months after he died and the ceremony and ritual helped us say the final goodbye and feel anchored on earth again. Life does go on, and one thing I realized is that a person lives as long as there is someone thinking about them and remembering them. That is true for famous people and for ordinary people too.

When my Fad died . . per his request, we didn't have a funeral then eleven months later when my Mom died I refused to participate in organizing a funeral with my kids. This was per my parents request. I have never found solace at a funeral but usually feel sick for days afterwards. As for closure ... I watched them both die and cared for them...closure enough.

One day our light will dim and our lives will be a distant memory only to be snuffed out completely over time. I love wandering through old cemeteries to stop and read the names on the gravestones. It's a way to keep their name alive, even though I didn't know them.

I agree with you Mike and I have told my kids over and over that I DO NOT WANT A FUNERAL PERIOD. If you have to do anything go to the local bar and have a drink on me and that's it. Scatter my ashes, or whatever I will be gone, Like you said if the law would allow it just put me out in the woods and let nature takes it course. God Bless and stay safe.

I'm not religious, I'm a Christian and I agree with you. No doubt my kids will grieve and miss me here on earth, but they also know that they will see me again when they are called home to be with Jesus our Saviour. Since having my children I have always believed in leaving them wonderful memories and a love for God.

Hi Mike, I mostly agree with everything you said here. I will be cremated and buried in a family area, no service, just a prayer said at my grave, by my grandson. I have 3 living children and 3 children that have passed, some days I miss them, all of them, but there’s living yet to be done, so there’s a line in Shawshank Redemption, get busy living or get busy Dieing . And Ihave made all my life arrangements myself and I’m paying for them to take the burden off my family

My Dads ashes were buried out behind his pond, under the sassafras trees. My Mom's, brothers, sisterinlaws are all there. They have headstones. I will be there. They all overlook the home place. I love there now, in my old bedroom from childhood. I tend the yard, keep the headstones clear. If I ever get out of debt, not too much, I'm paying for my service and headstone.

I didn't have to buy a plot or a headstone.I also will be buried there with him (already prepaid for myself and also covers my last ride there)and my name will go on the back side of his headstone which the VA took care of free and they had it in place 30 days after his buirel.

I agree, have it in my will and my two kids know I will be cremated and I don't care what they do with the ashes. My husband died almost 12 years ago and due to AL law, they could not cremate him for 48 hours, once that was done we had a service at the place he worked that had a big pond in the middle. Got permission to put the ashes in the pond with the turtles. Soul moves on.

They will continue to live on and bring hope and wisdom to future generations. Lunarians like Dick Cheney, Jeff Bezos, Megan McCain, Thw Clinton's and Geshlain Maxwell will continue to do good works in the future.

The family historian in me does like finding my ancestors in the cemeteries. I don’t know how many I’ve walked & documented. I absolutely think people should put to paper what they want done after their last day. My grandmother was done dirty. She wanted to be BURIED beside her mother & words said over her. She told me, she told others, but never put it on paper. One of her children had her chunked in the kiln right after she took her last breath & buried her ashes in the next county. It was a spite thing I feel like. If it were up to me I’d be buried here on the family land but the ole gubment frowns on that. I know I won’t know the difference, but cremation freaks me out, & I surely don’t wanna be sitting on someone’s mantle. 🤣

Since being a lawn decoration isn't allowed, my preference would be a green funeral but I'd want my family to do whatever is cheapest. I thought about donation but I'm not real happy on how the paperwork is supposed to be submitted beforehand. I don't want a service because I only have close friends and it would be like a birthday party where no one shows up. I'd hope there wouldn't be flowers. Nothing against florists but cut flowers disturb me. I'd rather the money go to something living... local animal or person charity.

Religion is screwed up. God is supposed to be all loving. I told my aunt that I was going to be cremated and she said that I should not do that because I would lose the "worm of my soul" if I did. I have never heard such a thing in all my life. The graveyards in Europe are being reused to put more people in the ground and it may not be known here in the states, but I bet that happens here too. If we return to dust, then cremation would be the quicker way to do so and will not take up land. In fact, the land we walk on are the trillions of people who came before us. The earth grows from the dead bodies laid upon it. Besides, if you are buried you will be dug up sometime in the future like the Egyptians.

I agree with funerals today designed to stir up emotions...The funeral industry thrives on it and they play that to the hilt without fail all the way to the bank usually...Im not into so called tradition concerning death...And as far as what religion says you need to do i tell religion to stick it where the sun dont shine and worry bout your own sad act you present the world with these days....Im with you , cremation and stick me in the most simple(cheapest) box you got...Hand it to my relatives and let them spread my ashes somewhere in Lake Tahoe i dont care where as its my favorite place on planet earth...Doesnt get much more simple than that and anything more would be an insult in my name...Funerals plain and simple are a major league rip off these days and i want no part of that garbage as i detest them and what they stand for when it comes down to it....$$$$ ....Stay safe, be well.

My father used to say, just bury me in the backyard. So my sister and brother-in-law. spread the Fathers, Brothers and my Mom Ashes, at a park we used to go for the day fishing, swimming, when we were kids. I still have to set a plan up for myself. Nothing fancy, no service, just burn me, maybe get the son to spread my ashes in some lake. I am very basic.
