Just a random Singaporean here, who randomly chanced upon your video on my recommended! This was really nice to watch. I'm personally really thankful for the sacrifice you make to become a fantastic future doctors. Subscribed and looking forward to more vlogs! Keep fighting!
For the aspiring wannabes applying for medicine: 1. Do not be a doctor unless you do not mind having interrupted sleep. Few specialities will offer you uninterrupted sleep. Even when you are a consultant you might still get a call in the middle of the night from your registrar . If you go private, there’s no underlings so you have to personally go back to the hospital in the middle of the night . You think it doesn’t matter cos you’re still young , but uninterrupted sleep is such a luxury as you grow older . 2. Medicine takes up a lot of your time . When you go home you have to read up on journals , do research , etc . If you have other interests it’s difficult to find time for them. Certain specialties will give you more time to pursue a more balanced life 3. Medicine is not as meritocratic as it seems. Mopex / residency placements are often through connections . And of course not forgetting the politics . 4. Don’t go into medicine for the huge bucks - that’s the finance industry . Medicine does offer a stable employment with above average pay and the option of flexible working hours
This is nice and genuine. Hi I am one of your CWP tutors. saw your videos and i noticed i think i have taught quite a few of you. I'm the tutor who is one of the few who teaches you CWP history taking without any writing/recording/referring. Just want to emphasise it is important to enjoy the journey of medical school, work to establish good friendships within your batch as they are going to last you a lifetime. Help those who are struggling in the medical school curriculum, check on each other time and again whether they are coping ok. My batch had a batch mate who committed suicide in M4. It was out of the blue. But looking back, i think there were some signs which we all did not notice. So please take care of yourself and take care of your friends too. Do not worry about your exams. I personally was one of those who had to appear for pass-fail vivas (just not exam smart for theory and written papers) for all my pre-clinical tracks except physiology and pathology. Take each failure as a rite of passage. They make you a stronger doctor.
Jeremiah, it's a pleasant surprise stumbling upon your vlog as a med student. It’s a breath of fresh air to hear a local perspective 😊 Keep up the great work!
I just chanced upon your channel and what you have been experiencing is similar to what I have experienced because I am a yr 3 student nurse. Thank you for this video Jeremiah and Serene!❤️
@@JeremiahTang You are welcome! Thank you for the well wishes☺️. It has been going quite ok but there is always the usual pts who don’t want to listen or family members getting annoyed with us nurses🤦♀️
Hello, I'm a student here in Singapore. I've always loved medicine, and it's my dream to one day get into med school. My grades are good, so is there any point to volunteering? I mean, I love helping people, but I have to study for my exams... Btw, I love your channel! I just stumbled across it a few weeks ago, and I'm surprised you don't have more followers! Keep up the good work! And good luck on your medical career!
hi chloe. its great that you want to enter medicine! wishing you all the best :) its certainly great to volunteer and it should be done from the heart and not as a portfolio point. there isn't an ideal portfolio for medical school anyway! Thanks for the support
Saw this video on my feed. Love the candid convo and your other videos. Keep it up and all the best in your med school - from a regular patient (and organ recipient 🙂) of the healthcare system
Class of 2017 here. Best advise is go enjoy yourself. Go holidays with friends and family, stop wasting your time doing too much research. It doesn't matter for most people in the end. Life circumstances takes you to places, you will realise how unfair residency/mopex placement is.
I think another layer of stress on med school exams is that students are obliged to get good grades; whereas for people like myself, I don't mind getting poor grades like C, B-, B. Scholarships require students to get good grades, and I think that it's likely that med students feel that every morsel of knowledge taught and grades validation are tied to making less mistakes in their future career.
Thanks for the insight into medsku! i just got accepted into both LKC and YLL, and i'm already feeling jitters, like will i be able to fit in and find a group of friends there? will i be able to cope? From a senior to a junior, do you have any wise words/ words of inspiration and motivation? on a more practical note, why did you choose NUS?

People sleep with bosses to get into lucrative specialities.
Doctors with compassion for their patients will treat their patients in a holistic manner. We welcome such doctors.
