This is a fantastic quality step by step video. Found this to send to my father-in-law who is preparing to perform this repair on his Transit Connect. It could not have been explained any clearer than this.
@@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 yea doing today I usually work on the car if it’s easy enough once I seen your video I knew I could bc I usually work on pool gaskets
Excellent video and instructions, as well as the air filter hose. Oil filling my passenger side plug and car shutting off at red lights and running like crap. Got the new gasket and it's going on now! Thanks!!!! A+++++++
It does not leak from those unequal mating surfaces because of the RTV, imagine if you will like I will be doing when I replace mine adding a bead to all the gasket surfaces. I think it will protect the new gasket from mainly oil and some heat degradation. I'm also dropping in an aluminum valve cover for fun.
Thanks for the video. Could I know what cleaning solutions/tools did you use to clean the inside and outside of the valve cover? What kind of rags do you use?
Thanks. I thought the previous owner of my 2010 connect was just sloppy when adding oil, but nope... it was a leak. By the way, shouldn't we oil lubricate the gaskets before inserting?
If your oil smells of gas, then the compression rings are leaking fuel from the combustion chamber into the sump. Some amount of this may be normal but you can perform a compression test to verify if you have a problem.
Actually I think the cylinders are numbered from left (passenger side) to right (driver side) 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 So that would make the second from the left when looking at the engine standing in front of the bumper the second from the left should be #2.

Also, did you have to change the ignition coils or were you able to get away with cleaning them?
Glad to hear it helped you out! 👍
My coils were fine so I just wiped them off and re-installed them.
Thank you… I have a 2013 Transit connect..found oil in last spark plug.
exceptional video, well explained ,short and straight to the point. thanks sir.
Thanks for stopping by :)
@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 when you changed the spark plugs you just swap like that or you had to change the spark plugs gaps?
My new spark plugs came pre-gapped but I confirmed they were set to the correct gap prior to installing them.
@@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 I got 4 new ngk ones from O'Reilly and I'm just installing them like that. let's see how it go. thanks again
👍
This was fantastic! Really made the job easier and saved me about $200! 😊
Great job!
Great video, thanks for the run through. If the plugs you are using have shiny silver threads don't use anti-seize.
Thanks for the info!

I didn't use any cleaning solutions or special tools. I just cleaned it up using an old T-Shirt cut into shop rags.
thanks for the video, im gonna do mine in the next days
Excellent, I wish you the best with your project!
Thank you saving me 200 plus
Excellent!
Thanks. I thought the previous owner of my 2010 connect was just sloppy when adding oil, but nope... it was a leak. By the way, shouldn't we oil lubricate the gaskets before inserting?
I didn’t lubricate mine before installing and they are doing great.
It's not that hard of a job! Thanks for the walkthrough
You are welcome! Thanks for stopping by!
Utmost helpful! Thanks to you sir
Most welcome!
Hi I was wondering when you had this Issue did the oil have a gas smell?
No gas smell in the oil.
If your oil smells of gas, then the compression rings are leaking fuel from the combustion chamber into the sump. Some amount of this may be normal but you can perform a compression test to verify if you have a problem.
What did you clean the coils with?
I just wiped them with a shop rag.
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Can u please tell wat the number 2 cylinder is out of the four I have misfire and can't find the answer on this motor
I don’t know. I would try a google search for the firing order for that engine.
Actually I think the cylinders are numbered from left (passenger side) to right (driver side) 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 So that would make the second from the left when looking at the engine standing in front of the bumper the second from the left should be #2.

I wish you the best.
Well done !
Thank you Joe!

No problem 👍
Is that 89 inch pounds or foot pounds? Never heard of "inch pounds"
Inch pounds
I just had to get a new torque wrench too. 68 Inch lbs equates to around 7 ft lbs but my wrench’s min is 10 😬
Where is the vvt valve?
oh god, car is sputtering/engine lurching now... was running fine before
