It's one thing when you hint that AU Dazai also has some manipulative tendencies because people like that do exist, but so many people portray him exactly the same as in canon, mostly not even surprised by his crimes or the way he treats Akutagawa, there should be a good difference between these characters, considering that one of them comes from a better world with no mafia or experiments behind their backs, THEY WILL ACT DIFFERENTLY!! and you actually portray this so good, because their personality isn't the exact same, but still noticeable that they ARE these characters, and I CAN see Chuuya and Dazai like this, if they were raised in better environments, so you're doing amazing!!! Excited for the next part heheheh

this video is great til now, however; I’d like to comment on around 10:05, where Dazai mentions Mori and says “it almost looks like he cares” and then makes a claim that Mori DOESN’T care, when that clearly isn’t the case. the way Dazai speaks of it is in a joking manner, which I’m assuming is meant to somehow convey that Dazai either genuinely doesn’t care, or is acting like he isn’t/mocking the situation he was in. Dazai knows what Mori feels towards him, Mori CLEARLY cares for Osamu and even wishes to have been able to save him. Mori DID abuse Osamu (child endangerment due to mafia affiliations. however it is debatable wether or not that is the right choice-which is off topic to what I wanted to say), however simultaneously cared for him. BEAST Mori’s existence confirms this (he claimed he regrets, even with all the logical reasons around, having abused and being unable to save Dazai), along with how in the stageplay Mori CRIED after finding out that Dazai burnt his coat (the stageplay is debatably canon, especially what Mori does, as Asagiri commented on it stating that the actor for Mori is perfect. it’s like him in real life and the add-ons made to the stageplay too.), etc. and Dazai is FULLY aware of this. Dazai claimed that Mori is the ‘embodiment of logic’, that may sound irrelevant but it really does not. this statement implies that Dazai fully understands Mori’s reasoning, beliefs, philosophy, and him as a person. people often misunderstand his relationship with Dazai, and what Dazai thinks of him + HOW Mori abused Dazai. yes, Dazai was aware of all which HE agreed on with Mori, but he was still a child and it counts as abuse (legally) as it is still child endangerment. (legally, because once again, this is Dazai we’re talking about. Dazai who was searching for a reason to live, who HIMSELF believed that the mafia would be the place to teach him that. the ‘legally’ part also reminded me of the nurse SA scene god I could talk about ts for hours. anyhow, getting off track are we! uhm. so yeah well I tried making this short). just a few seconds after the whole Mori thing, Dazai lied unnecessarily to their HS au which made no sense. Dazai isn’t the type for white lies, and unnecessary coddling especially in this context as it is useless-he likely would’ve considered lying, however wouldn’t actually do it knowing it won’t change anything as the information will be revealed anyway. I can’t say a lot to YOUR hs au Dazai, however I’d just like to add that Dazai’s main coping mechanism is rationalisation. the “I’m not sad. I knew this would happen from the beginning…” quote, it shows us how Dazai’s first response to anything that could affect him negatively is to rationalise the situation like; “this makes sense. everything led up to this point, it’s only logical that it ended like this…”. even without this rationalisation, Dazai isn’t the kind to feel intense emotions. if you look closely, after Oda’s death he doesn’t even CRY. not a single tear. he is on the verge of it, but seemingly unable to. and right after Odasaku takes his final breath, Dazai stands up numbly, he’s already ‘over’ those emotions. your AU Dazai seems to be missing quite a few aspects of his character which make Dazai Dazai in a way? I actually don’t know much about your Chuuya in this AU, but I’d like to point out how… direct? he is with things? I mean, with comfort ifykwim? the advice he gives is very… emotional and affectionate (on the exterior), which is quite unlike Chuuya in a way. I’m not saying he isn’t soft or any of that bs, it’s simply that it feels. odd. I won’t say a lot to that. short thing to add is with Akutagawa’s training Dazai also had different motives too. I think I said too much so I won’t fully explain this but if we do it bold & bluntly iguess it’s sstill right w what u said (I haven’t finished the video, so I apologise if I’ve given unwanted or unnecessary criticism, or anything of the sorts!)
i fully understand what you mean. however, i wanted to make Dazai regretful of his past and everyone within it. that being said (this is probably not canon at all but i really liked that idea) i like to think that Dazai uses this kind of words as a form of a coping mechanism or reassurance (?). saying “nobody cared about me and me leaving didn’t matter to anyone” is, to me, a way he would try to justify his actions to himself. (and yes, i know that he left because of Oda, but after his friend was gone for so long, it was harder and harder to not dwell on the past) i hope you understood what i meant and i’m really happy you took your time to write me all that

I can’t say a lot to YOUR hs au Dazai, however I’d just like to add that Dazai’s main coping mechanism is rationalisation. the “I’m not sad. I knew this would happen from the beginning…” quote, it shows us how Dazai’s first response to anything that could affect him negatively is to rationalise the situation like; “this makes sense. everything led up to this point, it’s only logical that it ended like this…”. even without this rationalisation, Dazai isn’t the kind to feel intense emotions. if you look closely, after Oda’s death he doesn’t even CRY. not a single tear. he is on the verge of it, but seemingly unable to. and right after Odasaku takes his final breath, Dazai stands up numbly, he’s already ‘over’ those emotions. your AU Dazai seems to be missing quite a few aspects of his character which make Dazai Dazai in a way?
I actually don’t know much about your Chuuya in this AU, but I’d like to point out how… direct? he is with things? I mean, with comfort ifykwim? the advice he gives is very… emotional and affectionate (on the exterior), which is quite unlike Chuuya in a way. I’m not saying he isn’t soft or any of that bs, it’s simply that it feels. odd. I won’t say a lot to that.
short thing to add is with Akutagawa’s training Dazai also had different motives too. I think I said too much so I won’t fully explain this but if we do it bold & bluntly iguess it’s sstill right w what u said

i fully understand what you mean. however, i wanted to make Dazai regretful of his past and everyone within it. that being said (this is probably not canon at all but i really liked that idea) i like to think that Dazai uses this kind of words as a form of a coping mechanism or reassurance (?). saying “nobody cared about me and me leaving didn’t matter to anyone” is, to me, a way he would try to justify his actions to himself. (and yes, i know that he left because of Oda, but after his friend was gone for so long, it was harder and harder to not dwell on the past)
