Thank you for this. I played DOS1 about a month ago but I found the mechanics overwhelming and I stopped playing because of it. When I saw that DOS2 had such high ratings and was recommended by a lot of people, I figured I couldn't miss out. So I started playing 2 and I'm still struggling in and around fort joy, really takes some getting used to. Your guide gave me advice on how to proceed, I'm going to build a new character now. The only thing that's missing are your party formations, I can't recall how many times I've been AOD' at the beginning of combat because my formation was fucked up, I had no idea that was a thing. I would've wished you said a little more on party composition as well, but ah well.
The beginning area of the game is a true test imo, and I got my ass handed to me, and I also came from playing the first game. This guide is specifically designed for players like us xD
If you wanna have some real fun, get deep into crafting and the items you can make will BLOW your mind. Jar of Mind Maggots, turn it into a grenade, 8m radius explosion, sets Charmed 4 turns !!! Insane ! You won't get many but the day you need them, the effect will be memorable :) So many more amazing grenades and consumables that deepen your playthrough and experience.
I just ordered this from Amazon and I couldn't be more excited to play........but its been awhile since I played Turn-Based, hopefully between this guide and just playing/experimenting in-game, I will have fun!! So many people have said great things about DOS 2 that I had to try it out.
You say don’t lead with battering ram so you don’t “waste the CC” but you don’t say what CC is. Isn’t this supposed to be for beginners and not jargon aficionados?
This explains a lot because I was a new player playing with friends that started with pyro then with necromancy so I only started recently trying to get some other skills to add in.
These are all great tips I wish I knew before I'd started. I now find myself at 3rd level, having spent all my precious gold on decent armor (since my squad keeps getting squished) and now I realize I should have spent some of that gold on skill books that I wasn't psychic enough to choose during character creation. So now I can't seem to beat anyone else to get more gold to buy the skilll books I need. My main question here: Where in blazes can I get more gold?
The Spectre Silver not in the first act. Just two groups have serious fire resistance in the first act you will know when u see them. Any fire mages, which you run into less than other elemental mages in the first act. I can remember 2 fire mages.
The Spectre Silver True it doesn’t have hard disables but if you can get it on the ground and enemies have to walk on it to get to you it can destroy an enemies shield and health with the damage tics.
Still, the lack of hard disables makes it a bit difficult to kill some bosses. I do find Geomancer's hard disables to be gimmicky though, it does magical damage, but the disable is a physical armor one. Hydro and Aero have great disables, even though it requires the target to have a condition such as wet, chilled, or shocked. But can lack a little in the damage department, since neither have DOT. Fire is great if you can position properly though
I played divinity original sin 1 long back. It's very tough in the initial stages even in normal difficulty but later on it gets a bit easier. I wish they had added moving blocks like wasteland 2.
At least you got outta the first real zone, I'm still stuck on the beach with a weakass storm mage, getting routinely cutbstomped by an angry cannibal.
@@L0-C01 lol, I gave up. I really preferred the first game, it made more sense. The whole magical armour thing in this one is just kinda awful, and the fact that your starting abilities seriously determine how well you're gonna do for a while means that you need to have quite a bit of knowledge to actually make a decent starting character. Game was just too frustrating.
@@a_fuckin_spacemarine7514 haha I don’t even know what magical armour is so I would have been ruined by the sound of it. After watching this video it kind of made me want to try again but I remembered it being nightmarish last time haha
When you start a new game head to the gate of the joy. Go to the right side of the stairs there should be a ladder. Use it, And you can completely avoid talking to the bishop when you start. Once your in joy. Level up to 5 without leaving the joy (*NOTE I never left joy it might still work if ya come back) . Now when you return they should still be talking. Take the ladder again and hopefully your ready. fortify your ranged units and attack the ghiest. Make sure you can keep them fortified because the bishop knows nether swap. Which is a teleport spell and with the effect fortified you cannot be teleported. Now at this point the magisters should either be taking the ladder or the long way to you. this will take 3 turns for them to attack your group (5 or 6 for the long way) But they should not be a problem cause of your high level the problem are the gheist with there high burst damage. Your goal is to kill the gheist. They know backlash so they will be teleporting to you. If you have the skill teleport deal with them one at a time by throwing one of them back to the bishop. The hammer for some reason cannot use ladders so she will not be scary unless you get close to her. By now you should have one ghiest attacking you and the other already used backlash. Focus your attacks on the first ghiest and make sure you have plenty of stuns. Since they are level 8 they have no problem killing you with 4 ap. Once you kill 1 you should INSTANTLY turn level 6 restoring all of your health. This should take 3 turns to kill him if not then then the other ghiest will appear. If you have a summoner leaver your totem behind your group and your summon should stay with your group so they can apply the flanking bonus to the ghiest. The magisters will chip at you but you MUST kill the ghiest first or you will lose. Once both are dead target either the bishop or the hammer. Once either one of them hits half health they will flee. And you will have achieved the achievement Hammered. she will also leave her weapon behind , Its gives + 2 in strength , Intelligence and necromancy. If you just want to cheese it follow the guide but in story difficulty. You will still reap the awards. And don't forget to stock up on potions.
My 2 cents - unless you're playing the hardest dificulty mode and min-maxing, go for roleplay and the origin stories you consider more interesting. Me, I choose Lose over Sebille even if Sebille make the game's best ranger (elf racial + elemental ranger is crazy good). Didn't regret it, Lose has such a cool origin slotyline with her inner demon.
Howdy friend. Thanks so much for all of the time and effort. I was wondering if the dual weilding dagger build is up to date? I just purchased the game about 2 weeks ago and have logged over 64 hours with my bestfriend. I do not see the need for super high wits with the dual weilding dagger rouge because of the backstab...battle stomp and cloak and dagger abilities. I instead pumped those points into finesse and constitution with some into memory. Am I doing it wrong?
Got the same problem but I cannot win any of the quest fights if I am even able to figure out how to get to the quest it's not going well to say the least
Question, I had the Red Prince become a wizard (Wizard Lizard just liked the sound) and he only has fire spells. My question is was it wasted to make him a wizard because he should only focus on being a fire mage or should I have made him a warrior etc..
So I know I’m late to the party but….I’ve been on fort joy. And it doesn’t seem to matter which merchant I go to for skills. My question is: are there certain vendors that can sell things only they have?? So say the one dies, I need to reload a save?
Whats the difference between creating an own character and choosing a preset one? Does that effect the story? Is it better to choose a preset character for beginning?
Excellent video, but I wouldn’t call this a beginner’s guide. I played DOS:EE and still had a hard time following along with this. This is more of a “After the Beginner’s Guide Tips and Tricks Guide”

Zuko I’m on Switch. Performance-wise it runs great so far, but I did have one crash already, right when I got to Fort Joy (early in the game). No frame rate issues, and I think the game looks great. I haven’t played it on PC at all so I can’t really make any comparisons, but it is a great game to have on a handheld
Zuko Awesome. I was about 35 hours into Fire Emblem (was really taking my time) and I stopped because so many games came out. The game is great but it may be awhile before I get back to it. Divinity seems a little more my speed because I absolutely love exploration
I really enjoyed my first play through, I thought it would be one of my favorite games, but in the middle of my second play through I got really bored and it felt really repetitive, even tho I was using a totally different party, damm you brain :c
When was the last time you played the first game? I just finished a playthrough last week, and my elementalist mage was making short work of nearly everyone.
Ordered the game and want to play as custom character (magic archer) with the Red Prince(wizard) , Fane and Beast. Any tips on what builds I should use fire the other two and how to heal Fane would be appreciated.
Fane should be able to heal himself with Poison attacks, but a summoner who can summon totems in his poison surfaces would help, so I'd recommend one. Other than that I'd suggest any Build that does Physical and Magical Damage like the Cleric, Occult Flamewielder or Terramancer.
Best tip for PC players Download Cheat engine Set speedhack to like 5x-10x to alleviate the horrid slow walk speed of you characters moving across the world
Can someone please help. I was going into the Blackpits, doing all the fun stuff, ancient temple and what not. Then once I finished everything and fast traveled back to the town square, everyone is attacking me. They tell me to leave, so i say yes, then as soon as i get out of the conversation it pops right back in two more times and then everyone attacks me. I looked online and people say if you met the Djinn you get attacked. But I didn’t met a Djinn, or at least i think I didn’t. I fought the mystic chick in the temple. Finished exploring the excavation site and then i left and everyone hated me, wtf? Now i notice that when i talk to someone i get a -5 lohse at the start of the conversation???? Even when i use the shape shifting mask, i get attacked, but it’s only with my main character not any of my other companions.
The Abstract Lover 2 you fond the dijin from the golden lamp. Other then that no clue on what happened.. any chance you attacked a magister in town? Push to shove you should be able to break the chain and just use the character (s) that aren't causing the conflict and go through town that way buying what you need and such
Something worth trying out is letting everyone die, then faking death with an undead character. Unless they're permanently hostile, this usually ends their combative state.
I had something simmilar later in the game. I loaded an older safe as sometimes "stealing" does not go unnoticed even though no one is arround. Which causes npcs to aggro. Not sure if it applies to you though.
I was thinking about maybe giving this game another try. All you described in this video sounds like a pain in my ass. This game really doesn't want you to have fun.

Finally started Divinity Original Sin EE 1 on PC and enjoying it well enough so far...However i am playing alone on it (i literally have no friends to play it with) and find that something is lacking because of it.How much do i miss out by playing this game on my own? (on PS4 in this case however laptop can't run it)Is it enough fun to warrant a buy or do i RLLY need some friends for maximum fun...And if so any idea where i might be able to find some people who want to play?
How ridiculously brutal the early game is makes it impossible for me to not hate this game, just feels like I'm just getting repeatedly thrown into a meat grinder as a bad joke/waste of my time.
Your tutorial is helpful a lot...for ppl with need to play 'story mode' for ex. Can you tell me is it worth it to go through Honor mode? Im in and so far it's ok but i gotta admit that I've entered because of 'better loot'..is it true that drops better (legendary)? Thx
Hi all you RPG fans just a quick word to ask ..should i buy this simply because after watching this all the stats and such made my head ache..is it so complex....
The game is complex, but there's a story mode if you rather not dwell too deep into mechanics. We also have detailed build guides that can help you through your progress. fextralife.com/tag/divinity-original-sin-2-guides/
because the tool tip on the necro skill's dont explicitly mention that is benifits from warfare (it only mentions scaling from intelligence , in most cases) ... hence my confusion
+Flamingo Green I believe this is always true for warfare, and it's largely true for what the tooltip says for all damage types. For example, upping Pyro will increase the damage from Lizard's racial spell. That said, this does not seem to translate to elemental arrows (items), though I believe it does for the Huntsman spell. The other exception to this is Incarnate summons. Warfare does increase their damage, but not if it's on you. The Warfare skill must be part of the incarnate's stats, and the only way to increase that is through infusions. Before definitive edition, a blood infusion added warfare, not sure if it still does. In general, you shouldn't assume that upping a particular skill increases the damage of that skill, but rather read what the tooltip actually says in every instance. Huntsman increases damage dealt on elevation, it does not increase the damage of your bow. That means that all damage while elevated is increased - including magic. Scoundrel only increases critical hit damage (and movement speed), so warfare is (usually) a better priority for rogues.
My first play through i watched videos like this to help cut the learning curve but one of my favorite things that I found on my own was when I decided to make Thane my lockpicking guy. To my surprise he doesn’t need any lock picks and just uses his finger bones to pick locks
The thing about these early Divinity fights is that you don't know much about the inner workings of the game. Let me just list some more advanced tips: 1) If you engage in conversation with an enemy before an inevitable fight, you can buff the ever living crap out of the character in dialogue and the buffs won't tick down. You can also modify the environment with either water, oil, or poison without enemies noticing you as long as you neither attack directly in front of them or hit them with the attack. Rain in particular is great for certain fights if you have a high level Aerotheuge in your party. 2) Having 2 levels in Aerotheurge is practically mandatory for any build due to Teleportation, Nether Swap, and Uncanny Evasion. These skills are practically the penultimate in battlefield manipulation and are essential tools for setting up combos or staying alive in a pinch. 3) Jar of Mind Maggots + Empty Grenade = A 4 turn charm grenade with massive range. This thing is amazing at trivializing difficult fights. Make sure not to sell them though because there's a very limited number of them that spawn throughout the game. 4) Instantaneous movement skills such as Tactical Retreat, Cloak and Dagger, and Phoenix Dive are pretty much required for any build to have at least one of. Ranged builds should definitely take advantage of the Huntsman requirement to gain Height damage boosts as well as Tactical Retreat, where as physical type players would benefit most from either using Phoenix Dive or Spread your Wings. Cloak and Dagger is most useful when positioning yourself for a preemptive strike against a group of enemies, but is typically the weakest of all the movement skills when outside of sneaking or invisibility. 5) On Classic or harder difficulties, you can cheese out a ton of rare gear by either late in Act 1 or early in Act 2 and onwards by investing heavily in Lucky Charm on one of your party members. At around 6 or 7 points invested, you will start to see Legendary items drop pretty frequently, allowing you to adequately gear your team through the drops alone, or from the gold that you would get from selling them. 6) Raise your attitude with crucial vendors who you want to either sell to or buy from. For a fraction of the price in either gold or goods (typically goods is better since donations are given at a non-diminished value), you can donate to a character to improve their prices on items when buying or selling. This is on top of and despite the Bartering skill, allowing you to essentially avoid the Bartering skill for the entirety of Act 1 until you can take advantage of the mirror on the Lady Vengeance. Keep in mind though, if you get in combat with any NPC and Flee, they will instantly drop to -45 attitude despite their previous number. 7) Make your own pixie dust as much as possible. You can create bone & star dust by combining Mortar and Pestle with any bone or stardust herb respectively. This is important because these materials are used in refining runes into a higher rank or creating runes from scratch. 8) Herb mixes can be stocked up in the Undertavern in Act 2. When combining these with a drudanae pipe, you can get a strong 50 turn duration buff which can be used on much harder fights in order to trivialize them. You can also combine these herb mixes with certain void-tainted fish in order to make them a 100 turn duration (just keep trying to combine the herb mixes with every different kind of void-tainted fish to find out the recipes).

Thanks man!! I just picked this up and I’ve always been able to rely on you for help!! GREAT VIDEO
this guide did not feel like a guide...
Just starting this game now while on lockdown, very helpful video, thanks.
Just subbed. I just started playing and im so amazed at every aspect of this game so far. Thanks for the guides, I definitely need them lol
Just got this game. Luckily I am not far in yet. Very good information.
I just ordered this from Amazon and I couldn't be more excited to play........but its been awhile since I played Turn-Based, hopefully between this guide and just playing/experimenting in-game, I will have fun!!
So many people have said great things about DOS 2 that I had to try it out.
Feel like ive played for so long just to find out im still im the tutorial island😩😂
I feel your pain
You say don’t lead with battering ram so you don’t “waste the CC” but you don’t say what CC is. Isn’t this supposed to be for beginners and not jargon aficionados?
This explains a lot because I was a new player playing with friends that started with pyro then with necromancy so I only started recently trying to get some other skills to add in.
Thanks great video
You are great thank you so much for the tips!
Pyro skills also deal more damage than the other elements in general
But many enemies have resistance to it, and it doesnt have any hard disables from what i remember
Chapter 4 of my first play through.. I'm lost, I don't know what I'm doing anymore...
At least you got outta the first real zone, I'm still stuck on the beach with a weakass storm mage, getting routinely cutbstomped by an angry cannibal.
@@a_fuckin_spacemarine7514 Hahaha. I don't even think I got that far. I'm good at games but this one went way over my head
After watching this video it kind of made me want to try again but I remembered it being nightmarish last time haha
sick, was looking for something like this. Was waiting for definitive edition to come out to play this just like the last one
I love games like this where there's no set way of doing things
And don't forget to stock up on potions.
wtf

Just bought this game, never have i bought a turn based game in my life hope its worth it
Man… I’m going to have to start completely over
I freaking love this game!
Bro I love this game so much but the beginning made me feel like I straight up had 1 health point, every fight was hell
I'm already at 111 hours I don't know if I can start over again right now but hopefully someday I want to lol
I agree
Howdy friend. Thanks so much for all of the time and effort. I was wondering if the dual weilding dagger build is up to date? I just purchased the game about 2 weeks ago and have logged over 64 hours with my bestfriend. I do not see the need for super high wits with the dual weilding dagger rouge because of the backstab...battle stomp and cloak and dagger abilities. I instead pumped those points into finesse and constitution with some into memory. Am I doing it wrong?
Thanks for the guide
Thank you for this guide!
I really want to love this game but I get so lost I have no idea what to do esp for quests lol
Got the same problem but I cannot win any of the quest fights if I am even able to figure out how to get to the quest it's not going well to say the least
Like halfway through the game STILL dont know what makes my healing spells hurt my allies
Undead can’t handle healing spells
That’s one tip lol
Can you have multiple playthroughs on divinity at the same time
I thought you couldn't even remove your collar until a certain point in the game so I haven't even tried to take it off yet.
Question, I had the Red Prince become a wizard (Wizard Lizard just liked the sound) and he only has fire spells. My question is was it wasted to make him a wizard because he should only focus on being a fire mage or should I have made him a warrior etc..
I get lost so hard in this game I've done alot of new game because idk what to do Half the time
This game is super Hard.
Rain also exposes invisible enemies
So I know I’m late to the party but….I’ve been on fort joy. And it doesn’t seem to matter which merchant I go to for skills.
My question is: are there certain vendors that can sell things only they have?? So say the one dies, I need to reload a save?
Whats the difference between creating an own character and choosing a preset one? Does that effect the story? Is it better to choose a preset character for beginning?
Preset characters have their own background stories which add to the overall story so yes I would start with them.
Excellent video, but I wouldn’t call this a beginner’s guide. I played DOS:EE and still had a hard time following along with this. This is more of a “After the Beginner’s Guide Tips and Tricks Guide”
humans are best in game, they can dig with claws, learn by eating dead and open locks with bone finger.
do you still need the persuasion skill on your main guy or does it use the parties best persuasion skill?
Here because of the switch drop. Pretty interested in this game. Also very intimidated by this game.
Intimidated is the absolute best way to describe it. I just started yesterday and it’s awesome, but I feel like I am standing at the bottom of Everest looking up. Without any climbing equipment. Still though, that same intimidation is also what draws me to the game
@@CompleteProducer84 playing on switch or something else? Haven't seen a lot of reports on performance other than it looks muddy. I've honestly always been a gameplay above visuals guy, but it can't be completely broken either.
@@CompleteProducer84 awesome thanks! I'll probably get it once I finally finish fire emblem....
They overhauled the third act and beasts origin story
This is not a beginners guide! I don't even understand what the numbers means in the circle when reading about an attack.
But what about the diffrence damage of 1h + shield and dual wield 1h?
Me who just went in with the human knight guy:
My Eyes Burn at Fort Joy those daylight I hate it
good job
In the previous version, magic damage escalated badly in comparation with physical one. How is the balance between them now?
When was the last time you played the first game? I just finished a playthrough last week, and my elementalist mage was making short work of nearly everyone.
Can anyone tell me how does the overall difficulty level compare to Pillars of Eternity ? I just bought it and i don't know what to expect.
i left fort joy with my collar on and when i came back the majisters were hostile
Leaving the fort will cause them to be hostile.
Can someone who owns divinity origins 2 play together with someone how has the definitive edition?
How do you do to get characters on the lower deck when you start? By default there is nobody except the psychopath prisoner and his guard.
It's another player, he was playing co-op in that footage
Ordered the game and want to play as custom character (magic archer) with the Red Prince(wizard) , Fane and Beast. Any tips on what builds I should use fire the other two and how to heal Fane would be appreciated.
Fane should be able to heal himself with Poison attacks, but a summoner who can summon totems in his poison surfaces would help, so I'd recommend one. Other than that I'd suggest any Build that does Physical and Magical Damage like the Cleric, Occult Flamewielder or Terramancer.

Set speedhack to like 5x-10x to alleviate the horrid slow walk speed of you characters moving across the world

Wow now i know even less then before watching the video...
Can you still use rogue to steal things from around town
Xoire you made me think of something. if you have any undead characters, make sure they have a helmet. Sometimes npc's attack undead.
Say i am very interested in this game.
I find the game just as fun alone, as you get more immersed, but with friends is fun too.
How ridiculously brutal the early game is makes it impossible for me to not hate this game, just feels like I'm just getting repeatedly thrown into a meat grinder as a bad joke/waste of my time.
Woah, this game is so fuckin' complex.
You said human and elf are the best races. I am a goblin. This is clear racism. I thought we had moved on from this!
another 200 hours lost in my life lol

I can hardly call that a loss...
that's actually 200 hours living life at it's peak
Face it, you weren't going to do anything with those 200+ hours anyway.
That’s not a beginners guide.
It assumes you know how to start the damn thing.
I’d like it better if it wasn’t turn base

I cant find any info on " necromancer skills scale of from warfare "... can anybody back this up ?
Necromancy skills that deal physical damage scale with warfare because it is a multiplicative increase for ALL sources of physical damage.
so anything that deals physical dmg benifits from having warfare ? didnt know that ,cheers !
@@fredo3816 What did you think it did?
because the tool tip on the necro skill's dont explicitly mention that is benifits from warfare (it only mentions scaling from intelligence , in most cases) ... hence my confusion
+Flamingo Green
I believe this is always true for warfare, and it's largely true for what the tooltip says for all damage types.

The thing about these early Divinity fights is that you don't know much about the inner workings of the game. Let me just list some more advanced tips:
1) If you engage in conversation with an enemy before an inevitable fight, you can buff the ever living crap out of the character in dialogue and the buffs won't tick down.
These are great tips!

Pretty much useless for actual beginners, just call this video ''useful skills to take in Divinity Original Sin 2'' because that's all you really talk about.
1. Gloves of teleportation is ur bff in the begining
I won the alexandar fight with almost no hp left simply by throwing the remaining enemy down the walls with teleportation gloves, and having them run back around through the necrofire I managed to bathe the entrance with. That was the moment I realized just how important strategy was and that you can beat enemies far stronger than you using it.
