Amba Bhuvan, has been my favourite South Indian Hotel & pesseretu has tickled my tastebuds to the ultimate. I suppose it is prepared only on a specific day of the week. I get nostalgic about these South Indian Food Hotels, catering to Middle Class Taste Buds & Pockets.
Pineapple Sheera , rasam wada and coffee. What a food trip and that too in an iconic place like matunga. Thanks Kunal for venturing out and trying different dishes.
Kunal bhai, kya rekindle kiya memories! During my five years of Mumbai posting, I would often walk down to Matunga from my house at Chinchpokli, and more often than not , was unable to find a space in more frequented Madras cafe, Ramashray etc. Amba Bhavan came to my rescue always with delectable food. I'll act like a true South Indian, open up my Hindu and savour my vadas, idlis Or dosa alongside Filter kaapi. Waah bhai waah! Matunga ka jawaab nai...
While watching this video....this restaurant was literally giving the vibe of 1947....old Bombay....even the people sitting behind looking like 1947 era....so good to watch.
I went to Ramashraya in 1995-96.the place looks much lit up now.outside it was a paan stall where i ate maghai paan first time.whole matunga has a south indian flavour.fresh smell of coffee being roasted and grinded is in the air❤
Very delicious, authentic and genuine taste of South. One has to eat with full concentration. You are correctly said that eticates and manner has no marks. Enjoy and enhance your taste buds.
Wow butterscotch sheera, Rasam Vade and mysore masala dosa... Yumm yumm yummylicious 😋 Need to soon catch up with Amba bhavan coffee club and Ram Ashraya 😊 thank you Kunal Sir and Team Khaane Mein Kya Hai for bring memories ☺️ ❤️
Hello Kunal sir, watching your videos mostly at 12.00am after my work hours and always feel hungry even after BHARPET dinner 😋😋. It's just bcoz how you enjoy these delicacies.
South Indian cuisine is my mom's favorite. Specially idli and masala dosa👍 I often get her the lunch from restaurants like Dasaprakash & Navedyam. Mumbai also has a beautiful blend of Konkan, Maharashtrian and many more flavorful cuisines👌
I have eating at Amba Bhavan since 35 years and I can vouch the taste is same all through the years. You missed eating Upma which I think is the best in Mumbai, it is plain simple, but has an amazing flavour.
Kunal sir, I know it is more economical and convenient to do shoots in Mumbai but could you please take "Khaane Mein Kya Hai" outside the city more frequently too? If you recall the episodes on Times Now where you shot inside people's houses, that too would be wonderful. Need to add more flavor and diversity to the storyline!!
Hi Pranaav, it's not just about economical and convenient.. There are other projects also happening so becomes difficult to travel... But i promise we will cover many more parts of India this year. You can watch the series on Maharashtra till then ua-cam.com/video/fHBGJLMTRfs/v-deo.html
Hello sir I am a new subscriber. I used to watch you on the foodie years ago you where my favourite guy to watch on UA-cam so glad I have found you again on UA-cam what a fantastic channel I will tell everyone to subscribe ❤🎉🎉
It is aloo bonda original from Karnataka A recipe for bonda (as parika) is mentioned in Manasollasa, a 12th-century Sanskrit encyclopedia compiled by Someshvara III, who ruled from present-day Karnataka.99% of South Indian breakfast what u get in Mumbai or anywhere in India are orgin from Karnataka but people don't mention the state name
Are you aware that there is an Idli vendor opposite the IIT Mumbai gate at Powai which begins to sell breakfast items at about 4.30 am early morning. Please do cover such eateries which are open at odd hours in Mumbai as Mumbai never sleeps.
Fell in love with amba bhuvan for coffee. My father took me there and he said it is better than madras cafe and I admit that coffee is better in Amba Bhavan than Madras cafe although I love idli dosa in madras cafe more
Amba bhavan is closed from 12.30 to 15.30 pm. We had come all the way from Thane, only to find it closed. Really felt disappointed. may be next time we shall go in the mornings. Ramashrey has recently opened their new outlet nearby, whish serves lunch item too.
Goli bhajji aur medu wada mein zameen asmaan ka farak hota hai bhai. Goli bhajji maida aur dahi se banta. Suggest to get the owner or someone who knows this food for explanation. Some of These foods run deep in certain communities' culture and deserve a detailed mention
i always thought growing up that Goli bhajje had bananas in them like the Mangalore buns.. Alwyas had them sweet.. was surprised that Kunal didn't ask the staff
Sirji.. aap ko khate hue dekh ke bahot Mast lagta hai.. you are enjoying food very well..aap ko compair nahi kar sakte hai. kisi aur youtuber ke saath.. Bas lots of love..🥰🥰
Please have some time to Trvale To Kolkata ...roam around the streets of China Town ..have authentic Chinese dishes...,,, Then for One day go for Biryani Munching from Arsalan, to Royal, to Aminia to Dadaboudi ,,,....have another Dya reserved for Kolkata sweets ....and ..another Day for authentic Bengali recipes...then end with Colonial British food ...like Fish Fry, Egg Devil, Mutton Cutlet, Prawn cutlet.....I can't guarantee whether after all these you would like to return home back Mumbai ...
Many hotels in Mumbai are owned by Mangalore people and I can see that these are typical Mangalore food like Mangalore Buns, Neer dosa, podi etc.. First the hotels started by Konkani GSB community, then Udupi brahman's but it has been largely expanded by Sheety and Pujari community. Both these hotels shown here are from Konakni GSB community people.
I respect you as one of the oldest vloggers and food critics out there... But I wish you had put in a bit more effort and detailing in explaining where each of the dishes you ate hail from. e.g. Mangalore buns, Goli Baji, Pesarattu, Rasam Vada. Labelling them as the archetypal "SOUTH INDIAN" like the rest of India generalizes languages, people and food alike from the five states is somewhat doing injustice to your job. My personal opinion. I respect the way Kripal Amanna delves deep into the culture and origins of it, whilst also marketing about aspects the restaurant. Wish you had done more of that. P.S. - Neer dosa batter is never fermented.
Just for information. It's never called Buns but Mangalore Buns and Goli bhaji is not like Medu wada.. It's made of maida, banana, green chilli, curd and little sugar. Medu wada is udad Dal. Rasam is made of tomato, tamarind and chili and not Dal. Dal is used only in Sambar. In South is not Shira, it's called kesari bhaat.. Rest you are doing a great job
Great episode. Would be nice to know which part of the south these are from. South Indian food varies greatly from Karnataka to Andhara. Each has it own cuisine.
Sad to hear that sweet sambhar has become popular in Mumbai too...gujaratised version ...v tough to find authentic sambhar nowadays everywhere due to gujaratised sugar in all trend
Karnataka sambhar has a tinge of sweetness in it that goes perfectly with a crisp fermented dosa. I feel it works better than the regular sambhar for dosas
Another story about the origin of sambar states that the recipe for sambar can be traced to Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji's son Sambhaji. Legend has it that Shivaji's son Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje Bhonsale, who was one of the Maratha rulers, attempted to make dal for himself when his head chef was away. He loved his own concoction which was then referred to as 'Sambar'- Wikipedia
Madras cafe is highly overrated.....food is average and waiting for food is more than an hour..... Instead go to near by manis cafe....it is much better and budget friendly......🙏🙏.
The staff at Amba Bhuvan is very rude and the food is also not so good. Twice I had a bad experience. Ramashray staff is always very welcoming. All time favourite is Ramashray. There you get blueberry sheera, a must try.

Sir, ramashray ke bahar baithe hue panwale ka paan bhi kafi achha hai
I went to Ramashraya in 1995-96.the place looks much lit up now.outside it was a paan stall where i ate maghai paan first time.whole matunga has a south indian flavour.fresh smell of coffee being roasted and grinded is in the air❤

Super
KUNAL SIR....ITS MORE THAN AUTHENTIC DISHES...ALWAYS LOVED DOSA AND MEDU VADA ...BUT NOW ITS A MUST TRY IN AMBA BHAVAN 👍👍
Hotel Ramashraya, Matunga...my favourite place for dosas but it's been a very long time that I haven't visited this place.
Good episode...enjoyed it throughly...it's disappointing to hear Dosa being pronounced incorrectly, by someone who is so popular as a food blogger
I respect you as one of the oldest vloggers and food critics out there... But I wish you had put in a bit more effort and detailing in explaining where each of the dishes you ate hail from. e.g. Mangalore buns, Goli Baji, Pesarattu, Rasam Vada.

I beg to differ
It’s called kesaribaath elsewhere in Karnataka
In mangalore/ Udupi it is called sheera
In North Karnataka, its called Sheera.
Great episode. Would be nice to know which part of the south these are from. South Indian food varies greatly from Karnataka to Andhara. Each has it own cuisine.
who cares about etiquettes when the food is so good. such delicious food can be relished only by eating with hands.
Their kadi pakoda is amazing
Sad to hear that sweet sambhar has become popular in Mumbai too...gujaratised version ...v tough to find authentic sambhar nowadays everywhere due to gujaratised sugar in all trend
Very true , and to add cheese in every dish ....
This is a karnataka based sambar
I am Gujarati however I like spicy sambar , so I don't get your point here
If you notice, there were Mangalore buns served as well. I don't think this has any connection with a Gujarati cuisine at all.
Karnataka sambhar has a tinge of sweetness in it that goes perfectly with a crisp fermented dosa. I feel it works better than the regular sambhar for dosas
Easily the best suburb in Bombay, my home since childhood now living abroad and still Matunga every day of my life :)
In tamil Sheera is called Kesari
can someone tell how can i join their editing team?
send your number and email address
Mota kunal enjoying everything for free
As Dosa and Idli is invented in Karnataka so please visit Bangalore for authentic Dosa and Idli ❤️
SIR KALINA MARKET ROAD PAR NATIONAL HINDU HOTEL HAI WAHA KA NASHTA FAMOUS HAI WAHA BHI SHOW KARO
If i m not wrong .mumbaikars eat more idli, dosa than Vada pav
Nice videos hoping after food tasting the remaining food is NOT WASTED !!!!
BTW pesarattu is normally served with upma inside. It's an Andhra delicacy
Sir make video on awesome kolhapuri mutton restaurants in mumbai

Neer dosa is among those dosa's that do not require fermentation
Neer dosa batter is never fermented
There are lots of mistakes in this video unlike Kunal videos
