    In 1977, Apple sold the Apple I for $666.66, which is about $3500 in today's dollars. It was built in a wood box. 47 years later, this is the new Apple I, but the wooden box is much slicker. Same price though.

      I did the same analysis when thinking about buying a Vision Pro. I don't remember what I paid for my first Apple ][+ or my Apple ][GS, but I'm pretty sure my first Mac (a MacPlus) was $2500 and that came with only one disk drive. So, I decided that the $3500 - 4000, depending on storage, wasn't really all that outrageous. Yes, it's a work in progress but so was the first iPad and the Gen 1 Apple Watch.

    Would love to see a dedicated video on how the VP Home app works and the gaps/misses for the Home app in the V1 release. Especially as an AR device, there is so much opportunity for an immersive experience with the Home app but I also feel like it would have been a low priority for Apple on this release.

    Awesome video, Shane! I’d like to see some more content with a vision, pro gaming, etc. You gave us a different take on it than any of the other “Ubers” out there by showing us what your experience was really like instead of just saying, oh wow, this is great. You were actually showing us your impressions of what it was like for you!

    Great overview Shane.
    I was wondering how this device could fit into the Smart Home product space…or at least offer a different sort of interaction method while in-use.
    The brief clips of you using the Home App makes me think. How amazing would it be to have the ability to ‘pin’ and store Smart Home Accessories throughout an environment? So then, any time you put your Vision Pro on you’d be able to control the Accessories via gesture as you move thru the space.
    Dunno. Just one of the odd thoughts I had.
    Again. Great content.

      Thanks Brad! I appreciate the comment. I'm also curious to see how this fits in the smart home space. I think it's something that could be fun to explore on the channel, if there is interest.
      Your thought is not too odd in my opinion. I've had the same thoughts. In fact, there is already an app available that allows you to pin shortcuts in your actual environment. I think there is a lot of potential for this type of functionality... and probably even more integration into the smart home that we haven't even thought of yet.

    Do you remember when we first got VR headsets Vive and Rift, we all played these small experiences and were blown away by it. But then we set them aside and never went back to them. The Apple Pro is definitely a great headset but if the software doesn't justify spending US$3500 then the hype is going to die away fast. Despite that I feel this will push the competitors to build better headsets at good prices, so it's a win for all of us.

    This is the future I’ve been waiting about 6 years for ever since I saw how far VR/AR had come then and I first heard rumours Apple were working on a AR computing paradigm. I’ve been following the developments with Ar/VR in iOS with keen interest, seeing how they were slowly adding the features needed to make a product like this practical - and for the last 2 -3 years at least, it’s felt like the only thing missing was a UI that didn’t need a controller - and it sounds like that’s the part most people are really impressed with. I think if they have nailed that, as they did with the first iPhone (multitouch), as they did with the iPod (dial), as they did with the Mac (mouse/windows), then I think this will be the start of a revolution.
    Quest 3 hand tracking has been getting better and can use similar gestures (depending on the app at the moment) so I’ve already seen the potential - but like the first iPhone, I don’t think this is for everyone…yet. But v3.0 as the iPhone needed, I think will change the world.

    Shaaaaane!!!!! Great video and info! Your review is consistent with other reviewers in saying the VisionPeo is a great 1.0 entry into the Apple ecosystem. While Apple has yet to demonstrate the use case for the masses as of today, the same was said about the iPad and Apple Watch Avon their launch day. Hell, AirPods were mocked as Q-Tips hanging out of ears. As excited as many are about the Vision Pro’s launch day, I’m more excited about what it can become in the future.

    Great video. I love how you and everyone’s first reaction was joy and delight. When was the last time we experienced that feeling with tech? I heard an ex soldier and football player explain how the headset didn’t bother his neck and head as much as others. I’m sure former baseball and hockey players would also benefit from previously wearing helmets. I’ve noticed how quickly some become jaded once they get familiar. I wish the giddiness lasted longer. You seem like the perfect candidate to love using the full screen “environments” backgrounds for work when your back porch is not available. What did you think about them?

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  7 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for watching and for your comment. You are right... I can't remember the last time I was quite this excited about new tech.
      The full screen environments are certainly impressive. But I haven't used them much yet to be honest. Personally, I'm more fascinated by the integration of the real world and the digital, which is what Apple has really done an amazing job with.
      That said, I did watch come content in the full screen environment last night. It's really good. It felt like being at a movie theater. Much better than my experience doing the same on the Quest 2.

  • @Polkster13
    @Polkster13 7 місяців тому

    I think it will be something that you will have to adapt to for longer usage. It is like learning to drive a vehicle. It takes a while to get comfortable and have "muscle memory" where you do things without having to actually think about it. Like making a turn in your car. You just "know" how to do it and you don't even have to "think" about how to do it. You are thinking through what you are going to have for dinner, for instance; and not driving off the road at the same time. I think this is a great first step, but I feel like it will be several more years before this is truly main stream. They are going to have to improve the experience, make it lighter weight, et cetera. But just like the iPhone, if you look at what an iPhone first generation looked like and the experience of it and now look at what we have today, it has constantly evolved and improved over the years. However, I don't think Apple will be coming out with a new iteration every year. I think it will be more like the AppleTV or HomePod, where it will take two to three years before they come out with the next generation. But, I also think that in 18 to 24 months from now, you will see a non-Pro version. I think Apple will walk a fine line here as they don't want to eat into sales of the Vision Pro. But they will want to saturate the market with their devices. Again, sort of like the iPhone with the standard version and the Pro version. It will be exciting to see where this leads and what comes out next.

    I can see what some reviewers have said about the foveated rendering being quite intense. Watching the screen capture footage, you can tell where your attention was as it’s the only bit that is fully rendered. If it’s done well, it shouldn’t be noticeable in real use, but it does show that screen recordings with it are always going to look less impressive than in person.

      Weight, eyestrain, ridiculous cost... yes, I agree. However I don't think this is just for gaming nerds anymore than the iPad or the Apple TV is for gamers. Apple is clearly focusing on spacial computing over gaming with the Vision Pro. I showed my use case, which has nothing to do with gaming. I am not, and never have been a big gamer. I think anyone that spends a lot of time at a computer, that requires large or multiple screens, could really benefit from this device as I am.

    A face computer...no one will ever care. Ever. How many billions between Oculus, Vive, Meta, and Apple must be lost pursuing this direction. VR is not a computer screen. Valve couldn't even make a killer game app. The writing is on the wall for enhanced computing.

    Excellent video, I had very similar first impressions. The laptop screen looks AMAZING. It's like having a 50 inch 4K display. This is going to be a game changer for anyone that travels with a Mac laptop.
    The only downsides I haven't heard of yet or two, I got the Zeiss inserts, and they kind of screw up the vision a little bit. You can see the black borders a little bit. I think it's better to use contact lenses if you need a prescription. And word to Zeiss, don't put those huge black borders around the ends of the lenses. Still very good to use.. just a little noticeable.. to be honest.. when I use my glasses I can also see the frames of my glasses and I've gotten used to it.. so I'm probably being a little too picky.. i think we all are.. we are spoiled and expect perfection from Apple... but those who know, are willing to look past minor imperfection after realizing how awesome the products actually are.
    Also, the headset does not work very well in a dark environment. I tried to put it on when I went to bed and it didn't have enough light in the room for tracking so you have to keep a light on when you are going to be using the headset, but you can turn down the lights inside the headset, so that's not that big of a deal.

    Would be cool to have it integrate with Home so you could look at a light or lock and pinch to turn on/unlock or turn off/lock, or other scenes.

      People spend $5000 on just an 80 inch screen. Your logic does not apply to this discussion, thankfully.

    thank you for mentioning the accessibility options at the top. considering only brian Tong from cnet fame is the only other person that's talked about it, and has also done a complete walkthrough
