  • You get 2 for 1 in this quick and easy tutorial. The same links, which take just minutes to make, can be used in multiple ways to create jewellery, or to give 8 different hanging angles for your wall decorations. You can decorate them any way you wish. I have used polymer clay cane slices from my Petal Cane video (link below), then added some crystal bling.
    So, make as many or few as you like, but sit back, relax as I show you how to make these easy links.

      Hi Claire, you can go as big as you like, but you'll need thicker slices of clay both for the top of the wings, and the underneath to be able to support the size - experiment and have fun :)

      Not always Suzanne, usually if I look at a cane I can see how its done, and of course if it's a video one I can look at that ;) I usually keep notes if it's a brand new cane which is complicated, so that I can replicate it if necessary. I have never been a note taker or sketcher though, even when I paint I go straight in :)

    ohhhh my goodness, i LOVE LOVE LOVE butterflies! I just went to look at the tutorial on etsy and I'm worried....I moved back in March and the internet I have here SUCKS, no nice way to put it, I have to watch videos at 144 quality kind of sucky, usually with buffering. I'm scared I won't be able to download the pdf's being as many pages as they are. Can you tell me the size of that file before I buy them so I'll know if I can even get them to download? OMG, I want to try these soooo bad. I haven't been doing anything really with clay since moving, can't seem to find a decent toaster oven now, and my last one isn't sold anymore. They don't want to have stable temperatures anymore and nothing I do seems to keep from burning the clay. Just pulled out another new oven last night, made some beads and gee, ten minutes in they were burned to a crisp, and I even did the temperature check, as I found online, hour of checking temps every five minutes, all were perfect on the mark, stick that pan in, bam. I was so disappointed. Another oven back to the place of purchase. I don't have a house oven as I am renting a very small studio without a real kitchen.

    • @FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals
      @FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals  4 роки тому +1

      Oh nooo, so sorry you are having such bad luck with the ovens, nothing worse than all your hard work spoiling when it is cured :( As to the tutorial, the main bits are of course Part 1 and 2 of the tutorial, they are the bits you will need. Part 1 is 9.94MB, part 2 is 9.71MB. I have no idea if that is too big or not. You will know I am sure. Thanks so much :)

      @@FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals I have to say these tutorials are amazing! I just got thru reading thru them both, got a list of all the clays needed and total for all five designs as I'll be using Premo (It's what I have) and mixing colors to get what I want from the start, and that is a LOT of clay when you add it all up (roughly 32 oz I think I came up with lol). Now to dig out that big box of clay in the closet, I hope it's not all the way in the back on the bottom or I'll have to wait for help as I won't be able to reach it :( That will make me a sad camper, like I NEED to start this tonight or something lol. It's almost 2:30 am now as it is....but I'm a night owl anyway lol. My goal haha is to make all the designs before I cut into any, so I'll have time to get yet another darn toaster oven and test it before I bake any of these. Thank you again, these tutorials are very well written!!! I needed some butterflies in my life now :) Been a long summer.

    Hello. i am totally confused as i have herd you can NOT use PVA glue to join wet clay to baked clay or in jewelry making at all with polymer clay. hope you don't mind me asking but i am trying to learn and when one says one thing etc etc etc. Thank you. x

    • @FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals
      @FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals  3 роки тому

      Hi Hazel, if you are going to re-bake your polymer clay then PVA can be a useful alternative if you do not have any liquid clay. bake and bond etc, and if you are a hobbyist making things quickly and easily for your own use. If you are planning on selling your pieces, or want to make more professional, longer lasting works, then use one of the liquid clays, bake and bond etc. When I first started, I wasn't sure if polymer was something I wanted to do much of, so didn't want to buy expensive liquid clays. I was told PVA glue would work, so I used it a lot, and it does work, just to give an extra little bond if you are joining unbaked clay to baked. I am very aware when I make my videos that some people will be seeing polymer clay for the first time, and I want people to be able to have a go using things they may have at home already. People are less likely to try a new hobby if they have to pay out for additional expensive items. I have used many brands of PVA glue that I have bought in the UK and Europe, and they have all worked fine. It is always possible of course that in different countries PVA glues have a different make up, and maybe they are not as good. So to summarise, always use liquid clays if you have some, but you can generally still do the techniques by using PVA glue, although it will not be quite as good or effective. I hope that makes sense and clarifies the situation? :)

    • @hazelblair6634
      @hazelblair6634 3 роки тому +1

      @@FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals Thank you very much. i am on a tight budget so i will try PVA and if i continue with clay i will invest in the real thing. Please mention to beginners like myself. do NOT buy the cheap starter kits with no brand names they are sticky and a nightmare to work with. so a waist of money and could put you of trying the craft. as a beginner i went down this road and regret it now i have to start again and waited until i have the funds to buy the real thing.

    • @FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals
      @FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals  3 роки тому

      @@hazelblair6634 Oh how frustrating Hazel, I hope you have more fun and real success once the new clay arrives :) It's why I always mention 'recognised brands of Polymer Clay' in my videos as there are a number of non branded clays on the market, and as I have never worked with them I cannot vouch for them, and have heard that some are not very good at all, while others apparently are okay. You must have had one of the not so good ones :( Fingers crossed all your experiences now will be good ones :)
