They're also super expensive and I don't really recommend them personally from my experience with them. They also dont let you unsubscribe with a button(on web at least) and you have to contact them to end a subscription which I dont know how thats legal.
      To their credit I also found my favorite perfume through them(in my very first order so the rest didnt need to happen but oh well lol)

    give me a whole ass video on "everything dreamhack did wrong for cosplayers" because if they are going to encourage cosplayers to come to a convention that is notoriously known for just being a gaming con, they should be a bit more welcoming to that cosplay culture they are also welcoming. It's wild to me how they're going to try and encourage people to actually cosplay at their con with free tickets and then immediately crap on that by doing something that will then DISCOURAGE people from joining their cosplay contests in the future. If i was a novice i and that happened to me i dont think I'd do a contest for a while, even if i won I'd feel so bad for the others I'd hardly exknowledge I'd won something. I would feel absolutely BROKEN! This is honestly one of the reasons I have always avoided costume contests. I would've been so mortified!
    Joe did an amazing job, and you were a fantastic teacher! I learned how to sew years ago but never was very good at it, and kinda lost the little touch I had with it. I was gifted a SINGER and it's been sitting in wait cuz I'm terrified to touch it. The idea of screwing up and ruining fabric is so scary to me. I have a costume that I've had sitting that needs to be reworked because I gave it to someone to sew (for a payment, too!) and he absolutely RUINED it, and everything is way too big! I need to seam-rip the whole thing and do it myself.
    What I'm trying to say is, sewing can be a very daunting task, and you were able to teach Joe so well! I'm jealous, I wish I had you as my teacher!

    Some of my friends were in a contest recently and the prejudging was running 1.5 hours behind during the day, and the contest overran due to a ton of tech issues.
    Granted, it was the first time that con was in that venue, but that wasn't the only issue with the contest. The winner in the highest category had won in the same costume at another contest, which was against the rules.

    Ok, one tip for beginners sewing knits - flat insert the sleeves! Instead of going shoulder seam, side seam, sleeve, armscye, go shoulder seams , armscye seam to bodice, sleeve and side seams in one go. It makes the whole thing a lot easier, less "stabby" and allows you to distribute any armscye ease more evenly.

      @vincentbriggs1780 7 місяців тому +5

      Yes!! Not just knits, on any loosely fitted thing where the side seam and sleeve seams line up! I do it that way on all my shirts and nightgowns, and if you look at the underarm of modern button up shirts they're done that way too.
      It pains me to see so so many people doing it the harder and less efficient way :(

They don’t tell you WHAT you won until they call you anyways… it never sat right with me and why I only ever competed skit there primarily. I did craftsmanship once and I also didn’t like how only masters or groups (sometimes journeyman) got guaranteed judging times… and they would still be judging people DURING the event… everyone would eventually get judged but it just felt so weird.

    1st off congratulations to Joe on making his first cosplay! and learning the process. He really did do a great job for his first! And honestly I looking forever to more to see him grow and approve. It kinda reminds me when my friends and 1 started sewing so long ago and just learning all that over years. He's lucky to have a great teacher. Now the bad part. That is an awful way to run the cosplay contest! The limitation of the judges bc them being stuck in Atlanta traffic... well that's just Atlanta in a nutshell, that cant be helped. Just weird they didn't wait longer or back up judges maybe? I don't know. But the stage rewarding situation yeeeeaaaaahhh... They should have either have everyone on the stage even if you lost or leave everyone back stage and call them accordingly to the stage, don't just take up the winner bc that's just mean and takes the excitment out of oooh whoes going to win?! If it was me in that situation I honest would just die crying. I've lost more contest then I care to admit. But to be publically shamed and the mc just kept going on about losing. Yeah I would just give up altogether in cosplaying and cried myself to death. My heart goes out to the one catfished on stage to only be shoo away and the ones in the back who were left behind. Dreamhack doesnt need to be the biggest cosplay contest like world cosplay summit but they have to do better then this.

    Kudos to Joe for doing an awesome job on his first cosplay! Stretchy fabric is so hard to use for a beginner and he did a stellar job. Not to mention it's really scary to compete. I never would have done that for my first cosplay. He's brave!
    Boo to Dreamhack for how they handled the contest. I watched this after watching your vid on that and it was absolutely atrocious.

    But that's so horrible and ngl. I really hope this person who's running it isn't allowed to run any more. Holy heck that's so unprofessional what the frick?!?
