the Evoroids are like transformers as they turn into either a vehicle or animal plus they are designed by Kunio Okawara.
Oh yeah I had forgotten that fact! Definitely cool bit of context to those kits! 👍
Big agree on the Beluga. I have nothing but respect for the engineering knowledge that goes into making such a seamless transformation. Also a fan of the angular, streamlined design.
The arcanadea lumitea was probably my favorite koto kit. I like the "fantasy musume" style which is a nice departure from the standard sci-fi or military musume kits. Plus the wings can be used with other mecha musume to give the wing zero EW aesthetic
It's probably not on here because it was a reissue from a previous year, if it had been a new kit I think it would have easily made the list.
@@lordwisehammer I know it had a recent reissue, but I could have sworn it came out early 2022.
@@rokushou Maybe it was delayed then, I remember some pre orders saying late 2021.
Didn't expect that you'd make this list but im super glad you did! Hope this becomes a yearly thing like with bandai kits.
Yeah I definitely love the megami Device kits
I build 2 frame arms girl last year, you really influence me
That’s good! 👍
Glad you made this video man😁
Since bandai went full on p-bandai these past year or so I’ve been buying koto kits, Hasegawa, moderoid, etc more and more(Daban as well lol).
I think I bought every frame arms girl release and megami device you mentioned or shown in the video. Except the sousai kits.
And I Didn’t get the hexa gears though, maybe if I see it at a discount or something.
I think my fav koto kit this year would be the reprinted armored core kit since when they were originally printed I wasn’t into model kits at the time so I was totally missing out. Now that I’m into plamo, definitely getting them.
Again, thanks for the non bandai vid. I know there are less audience for it so I really appreciate it when you do one.
Less audience but that’s what we’re trying to change! 👍 I completely understand why Bandai is at the top, and rightfully so- better prices, better durability- but Koto makes great model kits that I think a lot of people would really enjoy if they gave them a try with the right mindset!
I picked up Dark Magician Girl and thought it was a great build! I started getting Koto kits in 2022 and really enjoy the variety that they put out
Is the Dark Magician Girl a 1/12 or 6 inch figure?
@@allenllabore4745 I checked the box just now and it's "non-scale" although she is approximately 7 inches tall
I think Bandai's pivot towards the collector market has opened up a bit more of the market share for more modeler focused companies like Koto. These companies are still hamstrung by all Bandai's patents on certain injection molding processes meaning they simply cannot compete on price so they've had to compete on more subjective criteria like creativity.
Exactly right! Great point 👍
my favorite is sousai shojo teien kits because of the after school accessories, simply because I can create a diorama/scene of them together unlike other kits that are just bunched up together with other kits that looks like a mess on my display shelf.
They’re a lot of fun!
Oh yeah I purchased my first two Koto kits last year. I purchased the hoi-hoi san and I plan to do a ton of work on it and gift it to a friend (ie: leave it at their house as a surprise). Then I got the Dark Magician Girl and I really really enjoyed that build. I've preordered the next wave of that Auv Susanowo. Really looking forward to what Kotobukiya is going to bring this year.
My favorite koto kit that I built last year was frame arms girl Zelfikar. Incredible kit that dug me deep into the mecha musume hole.
as someone who has stopped buying bandai kits and has invested more in kotobukiya, it is very refreshing to see a channel like yours speaking favorably about the company's kits, whenever koto is talked about on youtube, there is this bizarre stigma that the company's kits are bad because they are not OOB action figures, which I think is a completely unrealistic standard for people to have with a model kit
not really. i havent seen anyone talk negatively about kotobukiya kits
I agree with everything you said.
I am the same in buying less bandai kits, reason because of the more and more p-bandai releases which is stupid expensive over where I am.
You are more likely missing out kotobukiya than bandai stuff
At least with bandai even though you're late, you'll get it 6 month ish after initial release
With kotobukiya, you'll wait years, never or scalped high
@@somechinesedude5466 not really, it depends on the product. if its one of those anime pvc statues then they'll only skyrocket. but for the kits, they aren't too bad. i just picked up a bunch of frame arms kits and model support goods on ebay for near retail
@@kidrobot. well there are stuff like the Armored Core kits which very rarely gets reprinted and is priced higher now, etc 😅
I'm just gonna shout out the Yukimori from Knights of Sidonia since I'm very biased towards the series.
But it doesn't have an inner frame, it's covered in seam-lines, and it's missing some (small) color details.
But I really love the design and proportions.
Adding to your shoutout! I was super hyped for a potential model kit of it as a fan of the manga and anime - some extra love and its truly awesome🤘🤘
Got into building gunpla/model kits this year through Muv-Luv and have had a great time so far! I haven’t tried a Bandai kit yet, but so far all the Kotobukiya kits I’ve done have been good. Only personal gripe I’ve had is with 1/144 kits (specifically Muv-Luv) feeling a lot more flimsy when assembling/posing to the point where only the 1/100 kits have felt worth it to me. Since I’m new and not really confident with painting quite yet it helps a lot that all of the 1/100 kits I’ve tried required no painting beyond some tiny details to get the full look! Hopefully you give more of the 1/100 Muv-Luv kits a try as they’re fun to build and look really neat!
I definitely haven't grabbed much of kotobukiya except for that gueen guard one which is an awesome little governor. So I plan on picking up some megami device kits in 2023 and hopefully other Kotobukiya stuff.
Thanks for covering these guys I love by Ace combat 3 bi-wing stealth fighter kit looks easy to assemble I just haven't yet but the details are nice... Honestly I love that they releasedd an AC3 plane as it's one of my favoite games of all time and is 20 years old.
Hi Zack, a little suggestion for next time; please include the names of each kit with the pictures so we can identify those we aren't familiar with. Thanks!
Noted!
I really wanna get the Maruttoys collabs as well as the mecha Alice kit. My first model kit recently arrived in the mail, GSC's Chitocerium Nightmare. Can't wait to start building!
I truly loved the V-Thor. Felt so different from any gunpla, and looks rad completed.
I’ve gotta build one myself if I get the chance! 👍
I agree v-Thor is awesome on its own and even better cuz you can bash it with so many other things
For me their best kits will always be their zoids the rev raptor was awesome this year!
I just built my first koto last december. It was the Battle Network Megaman/ Rockman Exe. I really enjoyed building the kit and I am amazed how Koto can include pre-painted faces something that I hope Bandai would adapt more in their Figure-Rise Standard line.
However, when assembling the kit, the leg joint broke. It was a very tight fit out of the box. Thankfully, there are spare joints in the box, and I was able to fix it by removing the broken peg.
The feel of the kit is akin to SHF. Another fault of mine was I lost one option clenched open hand. Still with the other optional parts, it is a joy to pose.
I am now thinking of buying the Dark Magician Girl. Although, it doesn't seem to be in 1/12 scale.
Dark Magician girl is more like 1/10 scale as it is/isn’t part of the Frame Arms Girl line, CrossFrame being a sort of sub-line, but those are all roughly 1/10. The Megami Device line are 1/12
The Arcanadea Velretta technically came out late 2022, even though it seemed to only be available in stores this month before it quickly sold out. It's hard to tell for me since I'm buying from outside Japan. Likewise happened in late 2021-22 with Lumitea (those wings!). Point is, I think those deserve some mention somewhere even though their release year is kinda fuzzy! They're pretty great kits, maybe the best musume line Koto has so far.
V-Thor is sick as well. Beluga is a good choice for top kit though. Really liked that one.
I plan on getting the Beluga. It’s by far the most impressive of the bunch for the year 2022.
V-Thor is a good piece of mecha kit, and the musume kit can ride it!
I got a couple Koto's kits last year and I'm currently building the Gourai Kai ver.2. They really offer a lot of different genre of mecha musume or just regular school girl kits which is refreshing.
I bought more kotobukiya's kit than bandai nowadays, did you realize that we only got 1 HGUC/AC kit and 3 MG last year? Everything else is freaking P-bandai....which means almost every single P bandai kit cost MORE than kotobukiya's kit.....
03:28 I did not know they had released a Yukimori kit
Do you use your pegboard wall? I'm considering putting one up too
👍 more of this.
It would be nice to see your take on the Moderoid series too.
I enjoy those but I build so few of them that actually come out!
I feel like you missed mentioning Zoids HMM kits which are also from Koto. The Rev Raptor was an all new design and was rock solid with great articulation.
That’s true~ most of the Zoids releases were reissued but you’re right! There were others I forgot to mention as well! Just goes to show how many great kits they made last year!
You got me into mecha musume kits so it would be cool to get a rundown of your fav kits. Doesn’t necessarily need to be from this year
I’ve been thinking about doing that!
I don’t know why, but the hornet looking model kit really grabs my interest! I wonder what it’s from, and if there are others like it?
kotobukiya is the best ^^
They’re sure great! 👍
Need some news for Garudagear 2. The Beluga really impressed me.
We need a Bass model kit
Can you please review the patrol Nacchin ?
Bank counsellors preparing your phone number :
😂
I started building these kits in 2022 so there are a ton i'd have to pick from...and I dont even know which ones came out in 2022.
I built the regular megami device Sitara ganesh kit and some very thin very important inside torso pieces broke (and the teeny pieces flew off and I couldnt find them) and I can't finish the figure part now because of how very specific these pieces were. It was so expensive too T-T
Koto has stand alone body packs in a few different variants. Maybe you could look into that for replacement parts.
@@gtanusetiawan i know about the body kits...the issue is none of them include the lower torso which is what i need terribly,
Definitely for me, the V-Thor is the best mecha model kit released in 2022. The Beluga is also a great model kit, but not as complete as the Hexa Gear line. Kotobukiya has already announced a new variant of Variable Frame System - "Tentative Name". Of course you can't forget great girl model kits - Arcanadea Velretta, Arsia (character designed by Humikane Shimada) and many other from MM and FAG series.
I started building HG gunpla and koto kits in early 2022, learned alot from your video and tutorials. My latest kit is Auv susanowo and ATK JW girls after watching your review of them
That’s awesome! Glad you’re enjoying the kits (and the content)!
Koto stuff is tight
Hoping they release new zoids kits soon
NieR Automata Flight Unit Ho229 😰
Best looking kit I've built so far.
i want to say good things about Megami Device, but unfortunately i got the defect one, one of the leg armor isn't molded correctly
Eh! Never heard of such a thing. What was wrong with it?
@@ZakuAurelius the high heels isn't molded correctly, it only half molded. that part always falls off after i built it.
i thikn i will glue it
Lumitea #1 I guess hahaha
for 2023 look forwad for kotobukiya decoction model aaliyah
The Mega Man.exe model kit is cool, but it's too expensive
The waffle house has found it's new host.
I hope with AC 6 we will get new models with modern MG quality. Those tit girls in suits Kotobukiya is making now are embarrassing degradation.
too bad you think this about mecha musume kits, you are missing out on amazing kits with great amounts of customization OOB
and I prefer that they stay away from the "quality" of MG
of all bandai's lines, that one is easily the most shameful in all aspects, it desperately needs a fresh start and new direction or simply turn MG into MGEX for good
@@dart7957 Yeah, by modern mgs my brain meant something like Sazabi ver Ka, not what we have now.
Those are dolls are still bad, sorry.
muv-luv mentioned, read the vn.
Looking forward to building another one!
