What a wonderful dispatcher, she did a fantastic job and her voice is so calming. I wish all 911 operators sounded like her and dealt with terrified people in the same way, often it seems operators aren't trained very well
Truthfully, I'm of the mindset that the dog is the biggest hero in this. It hid the little girl from being found and protected her by barking so much. ;) Go puppy!

Strength in numbers, and the motorcycle Mounties could have run the suspects down on their bikes. Saved the cruiser Mounties the exercise. This was a great episode Courtney did everything to protect her owner true hero and amazing the dispatcher was so sweet kindhearted she did her job well as a dispatcher.
28 years have passed since this happened so Sharon is 41 now. I’m sure she’s married with children now. Thank goodness those intruders didn’t see her or something awful could’ve happened. This happened on a Friday. My rat terrier, Peanut, barks like crazy when anyone comes to or walks by our house. Sharon must’ve thanked the police for coming to her rescue.

When someone rattles the litter box or rings the door bell the dog just about has a heart attack 😂 that is what happens with our German Shepherd dog Bella
these types of stories really get to me. Maybe because a similar incident happened to my family while we were sleeping in the night. They never made it into the house, but my dog was petrified as well, they have a keen sense of danger.
This girl handled this so well. If I where in that position I would panic. If I did hide under the bed, the cops would have to pry me out of the bed. She was so brave.

I had an American bulldog she would always growl very aggressively when someone approached the door but if it was someone like family or friends she’d calm down but if this had happen to me she’d would of bite both them in the crouch 😂
At least Rescue 911 tells you that its segments are reenactments, not like the scripted "real" mind-numbing shows on nowadays. This show actually taught important life lessons about what you should do in emergencies.
The criminal applied lots of pressure to the door causing it to get knocked down or probably not a strong enough door they should put more protection locks.
Safety first when you're a teenager (NOT just a child). Thank god that Sharon's 🐕 is protecting it's owner from intruders. Intruders really SHOULD be arrested if the police DO catch them. ALWAYS keep doors and windows locked at all times.
Andrea Patane Even though the door was locked not everything will stand up to brute strength. They applied some major leverage to break down that door.
It’s been 30 years since this happened so Sharon is 43. This happened 20 days before my 11th birthday. I bet she was scared when those intruders at the door and even more when they broke in. I’d be frightened if I was in a situation like this, but my mother says I have protection from my ancestors
I am sitting here in Oklahoma thinking my daughter would be yelling out the window "Y'all better be able to run faster than 3260 feet per second" as she gets dads AR15 out of the safe.
I personally want to thank the rcmp, and all of the other officers, and of course 911 dispatchers, and all ambulance and fire personel. If it was not for you dedicated people we the public would not be safe.

thanks to Sharon's quick thinking, she saved everyone that lives with her. She did the right thing. Amazing job by the dispatcher as well for staying calm.
It was a waterbed, so she couldn't get all the way under it. She said that at the end of the segment. The dog probably distracted them from seeing her, or they saw her and figured she wouldn't do anything.
if I may add they both did a wonderful job it's was like watching a tagteam in action excellent job both of them I know it's from the 80s and 90s but hey who cares
@Nichole1227 She was hiding the phone. They may have seen her, but they didn't know she was on the phone, so they probably assumed she wasn't a threat.
I was cooking cleaning and taking care of my little brother at 11 years old and my mom trusted me to be home with homework done! So at 13 she should be be fine alone
The dispatcher is a very pretty and strong woman. I can't begin to appreciate the work they do and how they control themselves to stay that calm everyday knowing that someone is in distress or trouble and that they can't physically do anything except keep the individuals at the other end of the phone strong calm by controlling their emotions. That's a very difficult thing. I did see one episode where someone was in a really terrible situation and distressed. Upon the help finally arriving, the dispatcher went into a room and cried her eyes out.
The worst thing to happen when I was home alone was receiving a scam phone call from New York (I live in Canada). I just hung up and ignored the call. Other than that I was able to handle being at home alone very easily, even if I was like 16 years old at the time
I'm noticing a trend here when someone breaks into a house in broad daylight while a homeowner is there. Seems that in almost each case the criminal rings the door bell first to see if the house is empty. My advice to my 14yr old is, DO let them know that people are home. DO NOT open the door for any reason, but ask who they are and what they want. Pretend you are talking to someone else in the house. Never open the door or let them know you're alone. But let them know SOMEONE is there!!
Having a personal defense weapon is always better than a security system. All a security system does is make a loud noise. The police then call you instead of you calling them. It buys you a good 30 seconds in the grand scheme of things, which is not a lot when (like me) the police station is 20 minutes away.
The scene I went to that this happened it was the father that shot the son, the son didn't know dad was home and had lost his key. He body slammed the door until it opened and his dad was right there with the gun and pulled the trigger. The son knew he would have to fix the door but seeing that the weather was very cold he didn't want to freeze to death waiting outside for someone to show up.
I had a similar experience. When i fell asleep(at night) a guy got into my house and i noticed him as he watched me closely(he didnt notice me watching him)i knew if i got up he would kill me, all i could do is just stay there... The next day i was just soo scared of anyone who knocks on the door.

my dog is the same barks like crazy but he has a big heart ands so small. a red terrier
I was about to say the same shit
Because of the barking of the dog, the intruders were distracted and did not hear the muffled sounds of sharon hiding.
Great episode.
The dispatcher was amazing. Her voice was so reassuring, I'm sure her tone helped that girl to stay calm
That dispatchers voice is so soothing!
It’s in major contrast to modern operators laughing and making fun of callers.
Sharon did the right thing calling 911 and not answering the door
This is the most interesting episode I have seen. Her dog did a wonderful job and so did the dispatcher.
The dog definitely saved its master's life by distracting the burglars. Animals are really one of our greatest gifts.
