Video should be called a 20 second look at J.W. Hardin's Colt Lightning and 5 minutes, 20 seconds of close ups of people talking about it.

I am lucky enough to won a 1877 DA 41 caliber lighting with the nickel and pearl grips. Fortunately or Unfortunately, the main spring broke in the early 1900's and it has sit on my grandmother book shelf ever since. That is a great Collection and should be in the Smithsonian Historical Museum, listed under BAD-ASS American Gunfighters... 5 star video and my Respect. RH DSD

Wonderful pistol. Thanks for the NFM video and the Ohio Gun Collectors! And to certainly seeing an engraved Colt Lightning presented as a significant part of our "old west" heritage is always nice. The NFM is is CLASS outfit!

Well growing up in Comanche Texas, and having the Hardin s, homeplace here, seeing the pistol was awesome. Lots of outlaws made there way thru here, even doc Holliday. It was a different time, a time when some chose to outlaws sometimes, and lawmen the other, depending on which paid best.

Until recently, I had no idea how popular birds head handled revolvers were back in the day, even though I've always favored them personally.

Looks just like one of the displays that Samuel Colt used to make to show off at the world fair and such.
I can only imagine what Hardin's gun is worth.A guy showed up at the Antiques Roadshow with a single un-pulished poto of Hardin standing in front of a saloon and they valued it at $50,000.

Hold it one gosh darn second here, Jim. You say he was an outlaw but "turned to the other side of the law" when he became an *"attorney."*

      John Ratko
      I just "discovered" this video.
Am I the only guy who picked up on your comment ?
LMFAO, yeah, the other side of the law . . . love it.

John Ratko isn't a lawyer and a outlaw the same thing, just one wears a suit.

I’m in El Paso. I went to the saloon he was killed in to bad it’s a dress shop. I tried to tour the building and it’s roped off for employees only. Seems like anything historical in El Paso they tear it down to make something new. Wish there was a museum here that had old west items . Been famous people throughout history here would be nice to have a museum

Chris Seagler I am also related by marriage to John Wesley Hardin. In fact his great grandson was married to my grandfathers sister. His name was Blaine Hardin but he passed a few years back.

Very interesting. My Grandmother, Joyce Hardin Cavett, determined JWH was also in our line.

Haha 😜 that's funny. My daughter told her boyfriend that he snores louder than me (her mom) and that didn't he know that she was related to the outlaw that killed a man for snoring too loud lol 😂

I can trace my family tree waaay back and I was surprised to find out that I'm a direct descendant of his. He sure hasn't made us proud. He was a horrible man. His life's history is a bit different than this gentleman's information.
