  • restoration of the old mattel console, the intellivision! This retro console was launched in 1979 as an attempt to compete for the world famous atari 2600. As we all know, in the end it was not very successful and very few were sold, so today it is somewhat difficult to get this console. Personally, it is not one of my favorite video game consoles but without a doubt I really wanted to do this restoration since it is an excellent collector's item.
    As always, I hope you like this restoration video, that you support me in this project by subscribing to the channel, giving me a like and sharing my content with your friends who love video games and retro. thanks!

      Where do you find these nasty consoles?

      Perhaps you must do an Audio Video output jack mod for 90s and 2000s TVs.

    Intellivision is a pretty awesome console; it's basically the middle step between Atari 2600 and Nintendo Entertainment System.

      It is true but that was what caused its commercial failure as we remember that it was much more expensive than the Atari and, sadly, people almost always pay more attention to prices than to quality.

      That's definitely true, better but expensive can be a failure. A perfect example is the original Gameboy vs Atari Lynx, and Sega Game Gear; the latter 2 were superior in every single way but they were substantially more expensive.

      @@VRestoration Back in the day, selling 3 million units wasn't considered a commercial failure. They made a ton of money on it in 1981 and 1982 and only when the big crash happened in 1983 that they lost money.

    • @VRestoration
      @VRestoration  3 роки тому

      @@CarbonatedLithium How could something that made them lose 200 million dollars not mean a commercial failure? The 2 million units sold at the beginning were something that occurred only because of the sales and distribution capacity that mattel had, not because it was a more attractive product for the public and this was seen when they launched the second model, which is where they lost a lot of money. Obviously the crisis in the video game market contributed a lot but seeing it in perspective, Mattel being a gigantic company and with a brand already very well built should not have lost so much.

      @@VRestoration I lived it back in the day. The Mattel Intellivision was HUGE, and it was the 'Pepsi' to Atari's 'Coke'. The commercials were on regularly and often. That's not a failed product. Atari took a massive hit at the same time (1983), and only the fact that it was in the computer business saved the company. Colecovision was knocked out as well, but struggled on a couple of years longer due to the Cabbage Patch Kids. Everyone thought the video game market was dead as a doornail, and everyone had moved on to 'Home Computers'. It sure looked that way at the time. The 'second model' of the Intellivision was a cost reduced version of the system. Launching the re-design kept sales going when prices of consoles were being slashed across the industry. It's not a rare unit. You cannot judge the Intellivision to be a 'failed product', unless you say the same of the Colecovision. It has similar numbers sold, if not fewer. I would not call the Colecovision a 'commercial failure'. The Adam, yes, but not the video game.

    Great job! Now that's what I call a deep clean! 😁
    You're lucky it worked. Generally, they're pretty robust and hold up fairly well over time, but I've had IC's fail on me before too (bad RAM in my case, which isn't easy to find.. It usually involves resorting to robbing one from another parts console, or if you're ever lucky enough to find someone selling NOS parts, going that route). Anyways, congrats on restoring that beautiful Intellivision and if you ever really want to see it in all its glory, jump on eBay and buy a RGB mod for it.. the Crayola v5 RGB PCB/kit is HIGHLY recommended! ✌️

      If I have heard of that mod and if I have been thinking about buying it, a friend installed it on his console and told me that he sees quite a difference in the image. nothing more than I have never modified a console everything I have is totally original and I am still a bit hesitant to do so.

      If you can solder, you should be ok.. It's not too hard to install. There's install pics and other details on AtariAge. Then you'd need an upscaler of some sort - Retrotink 2x-Scart works great. Anyways, good luck, whatever you decide to do!

      @@R3TR0R4V3 Yes, of course! the technical aspect of welding and others is not the problem, it is more like keeping the collection intact, without modifications. but the truth is that if I want to make several mods that I have seen on the internet. how to put a sd reader in the gamecube. I think I'll try to get additional consoles to do that kind of thing so I don't play the ones I already have.

    Was that large opening in the back designed to tuck away the power cord for storage? If it isn’t; it is a weird design choice.
