@@tferreras8052 they are performing very complex and potentially dangerous (but not dangerous to themselves) operations on people. That's a wonderful thing and God bless all the good surgeons that help people across the world. But there is a difference between that and putting your own life on the line and performing extreme acts of heroism in combat to protect others, often with extreme disregard for your own personal health and safety.
TL;DR sewing a face on is a great thing to do, but it is not as great as protecting 20 fellow soldiers by jumping on top of a bomb or charging a pillbox, etc.

About three month ago, I got into a motorcycle accident that left my face unrecognizable(mouth torn completely apart, eye swollen to the fullest extent that left 7 scratches behind my eye, three broken bones on the left side of my face, severe scratches all over my face and all over my body). My face was no where near as dreadful as Katie, but the surgeries, the pain, the healing process, the being up late nights crying thinking about how people and your family going to look at you differently for the rest of your life. I connect with Katie with those points. But what I realized and accepted that I have a testimony / story to tell. Now Katie have one as well. Like my family, doctor, nurses, pastor, friends tell me "Andrew it could have been a lot worse then it was". And Katie it could have been a lot worse, but you survived. I look at life way different than I use to now. I look at the smallest Good Deeds in life and appreciate it more than I use to. I thank God every single day for my life. And Katie you stay strong.
I'm 20 by the way (so I understand Katie as a post teenager/ young adults)

Surviving an accident like yours, or Katie’s... i can’t even imagine how terrible can be. But you both survived. And I am totally sure that you both are more aware of how beautiful life is, how blessed we are to just have the chance of seeing the sun rising, or a bird that flys in the sky, or to heard the sound of the waves of the ocean. Those little things are the things that make our life better and only a small amount of people are able to appreciate that.

It’s interesting how Katie’s initial intent was to die but once she felt the suffering of what she had done to herself, instead of still choosing to die she chose to live. It’s fascinating. She was closer to death yet fought to live. I’m curious to know her thought process throughout all of this. She’s a miracle and I think she can help a lot of people who struggle with suicidal ideation.

Thank you for sharing this. What a journey she’s been through. Bless the grandmother who gifted this to Katie to get a face transplant. Her granddaughter would be happy to know it went to a good person. Bless Katie’s parents for staying by her side through the journey and continued to stay positive.
