I fully agree with your advice, in fact my training bike has only 1 of the 2 hanger screws inserted after I could not get an exact replica hanger replacement after I broke the original. I am riding it without issue for 3 years

Would a bike with a carbon mount for a hanger eg Canyon CF SL be rideable? Broken in the same way, where the 3rd screw goes. Other screws ok. Thanks

Hi Richard. If you followed along I suspect you had the same issue and therefore hopefully if the other screws are ok, and the the dropout does not have additional damage, then it should be ok. Sometimes after a trauma it can delaminate through the body of the dropout making it more flexible. If you are worried why not get the team at CBR to give it a health check for the summer? Just drop an email to info@carbonbikerepair.co.uk
      Hope it’s fine of course.

@@carbonbikerepair1 I have the same exact predicament but the rear dropout is aluminum and it snapped right off withe hanger and half way through the third and last bolt.. idk if I can get the crest fabricated and welded to the tip of the drop it that shot broke like a tooth hole and I wasn’t even pedaling.. just coasting

@@ellingtoncarter unless you can get the alu dropout extracted from the frame it’s not possible unless you know a magician! But in most cases if the wheel sits in the slot and grips the hanger forget about it!

Hey guys. I have an Sworks Sl5. Carbon dropouts. This is my primary bike for smart trainer purposes. I've noticed a small flake of carbon has come off the non-drive side on the carbon dropout. Dropout is still very much intact and the wheel stays on just fine when I ride it on the road. No issues there. I think the on and off from trainer to the wheel has caused this problem.
Have you guys seen this as a problem with smart trainers? Is there a cure? Perhaps maybe a plate that goes over the non-drive side dropout to protect the carbon from being chewed off?
If it does break off, can it be repaired?

      Hi Samuel,
This issue is rubbing during the flex of the bike on an immovable frame. It’s never the best to put your fav carbon dropout bike on this trainer but if you have to skewer it down very tight. Check wheel alignment on the inner stays at the bb arch and sstay arch. This will tell you if the slot itself is also wearing. Give CBR a shout with pics if you want. We can repair!

Would a skewer clamp safely onto a carbon dropout of irregular size (horizontally oval)? DS and NDS are vertically perfect and there is just a 2mm difference in the horizonal dropout position

If I understand you, you’re saying the dropout slots are worn differently but slot depth is the same? If so this is caused by too loose a skewer particularly on the drive side. Usually you will also get vertical wear. You ask as I assume your wheel is rubbing the NDS chainstay? If so then the answer is no you cant clamp that enough. It will hold for a bit and come free. They can be repaired, not cheap but be very careful who you take it to. If it’s 5 years (ish) or older the dropouts will be injection moulded inserts. Can’t be layup repaired.
      I hope I understood your question 🤞

If you can ride with a broken dropout really depends on what part of the dropout is broken.
