For those wondering which track they will be using for terminating and departing trains, as of the Open day they hadn't decided. Platform 1 would be better for bus interchanges, but platform 2 would be easier for train interchanges and they weren't sure which would be more useful.
Yes that's right. I reckon, they'll probably try and use platform 2 as much as possible for an easy interchange with the T3 until its closed for conversion to Metro. Then after that, probably platform 1 where possible, as that will ultimately become the city bound platform when the extension to Bankstown opens.
Excellent presentation Paul 👏 I am becoming more enthusiastic about Metro each time I watch your update videos. I am looking forward to your next video Paul.
Thanks John, glad you enjoyed it, and wonderful to hear that you're becoming more enthusiastic about the Metro. Hopefully we can ride it together later this year!
Great video! I also had the opportunity to go to Sydenham for the open day. Because of the lack of a crossover south of the metro platforms and the frequency of the services requiring both platforms it seems trains will use either platform? So will passengers have to wait on the bridge to try and find what train will depart next, or will there constantly be people running up on over because they're sitting on the wrong platform or even worse getting left behind. At Chatswood currently they have an almost perfect setup with interchanging. It doesn't seem that the same kind of thought has gone into Sydenham sadly. Thanks again for your amazing work!, so glad there are people like you Paul documenting and covering this!!
There is a crossover to the southwest of Sydenham Station. It's just after the lines diverge towards Bankstown. However, the tracks that this crossover is on, are currently used by the T3, so it can't be used straight away. Once the Bankstown Line closes, and the Sydney Metro signalling is installed, it would be possible to use this crossover in the same way as at Chatswood with trains arriving on platform 2 and departing on platform 1. However, do remember, that this is only for a year or so, as when the extension to Bankstown opens in late 2025, Sydenham will become a through station, and it was never designed to be a terminus in the original plans. Hope this makes sense. Thanks for your lovely feedback on this video as well.
I asked about this on the open day and they said that actually 1 platform will be enough for train termination, even with the frequency of service. So they'll likely either use exclusively Platform 1 or exclusively Platform 2, except in the case of disruptions. Or perhaps one platform will be used for terminating trains reversing to go back to the city, and the other will be used by terminating trains about to run into the depot.
Not as yet, unlikely to be any in January due to the school holidays, but I reckon we'll see one or two in Feb. I'll create a UA-cam post when I know dates.
So the timing between Sydneham and Chatswood is 22 Minutes. But Chatswood to Tallawong is 36 Minutes, and extra 4 to Schoifelds, Thats because i want Metro to terminate at schofields. The Trip between Sydneham and Tallawong via chatswood is almost 1 hour (58 Minutes).
Hi Ethan, that's right. However, Tallawong to the CBD would be just over 45 mins, so which is pretty good! Schofields to the CBD is about 1 hour, so Metro would be a little quicker if extended.
I was on a metro From Bella vista to Kellyville today, I saw an interesting Metro at bella vista, It had a new livery, And it's a streamlined Teal Colour Livery.

The official statement for Sydney Metro is "the middle of this year". I haven't heard any updates on likely the opening date for Parramatta Light Rail, so I guess they are still aiming for May.
Hi Paul, interesting seeing all the changes at Sydenham. I remember regularly traveling on trains through the original Sydnenham station platforms very well, as living at Marrickville, I used the trains to head to my former workplace in the city. Incidentally, are there lifts now installed on St Peters, Erskinville and Redfern stations? Anyway, take care and all the very best. Rob in Melbourne Australia.

Hi @Barcarocker05, as @shayan24 said, it will be ultimately be Tallawong to Bankstown, probably from late 2025. When it opens this year, it will be Tallawong to Sydenham.
Hi Martin, not at Sydenham, but there are lots of spaces for bicycles instead. Times are changing, and high rise developments adjacent to stations is generally preferred to large car parks, especially in the inner parts of Sydney.
Hi Jim, I think there was one new clip from the Gleeson Avenue concourse. The other clips were filmed a few months ago, when I was doing my previous Sydenham update video. At the moment, platform 3 is closed , so its been hard to film recent test trains. It will reopen with the Bankstown Line in late Jan.
Hi Yitao, yes that was what I was thinking! However, if they did put vending machines there, they would block the station diagrams on the glass behind.
I would be surprised if it is that soon. The official statement from Sydney Metro is the middle of this year, and there is still quite a lot to do to complete for Crows Nest and Gadigal Stations.

Good thing this station wasn't renamed as 'Watergardens'!
Is the metro continuous from Bankstown to Sydenham to Chatswood or is a change of platforms required at Sydenham?
in 2025 when the bankstown section opens there will be no change required i.e. you can go from tallawong to bankstown directly
Hi @Barcarocker05, as @shayan24 said, it will be ultimately be Tallawong to Bankstown, probably from late 2025. When it opens this year, it will be Tallawong to Sydenham.
