A small session controlling the FS1r Synthesizer live with a custom hardware controller. More details about this device available at the German online-magazine www.amazona.de...
i’m blown away by this cool hardware programmer...by the way: this is one of the very few yt-videos that show the real potential of the fs1r. far beyond typical fm.

That's a beautiful device you've built. I really hope you are able to make a commercial run. There aren't a lot of FS1rs out there but the people who've stuck with them love them and would love them more with this!
I dislike mine and regret buying it. It's very crude in today's world of FM and has 0 character in terms of the audio path. All the modulation stuff is way better with software nowadays
@@j1v4108 I don't know it sounds the same and easier to configure. I'm talking about the modulars that runs FM software like mutable instruments plaits with last update and ryk vectorwave
Awesome. F.M. control as it should be (not the endless menu page diving on the Yamaha SY99). I do have 2 Behringer RC2000's but that is still insufficient as a DX-7 or SY99 midi controller. A dedicated controller like yours is the only solution.
How someone can built this? This is a masterpiece. Had the fs1r back in the day when it was released and i programmed on that smal display bout 120 presets. But your tank makes this synth a real instrument. Awesome.
Bought my FS1r in 2000 for cheap and nearly new condition. Sold it a couple of years ago because the interface was impenetrable and prices for them had blown up. Miss it but I feel some vindication in the Kodamo Essence FM.
You should put on a small 5 minute video explaining the hardware and software just enough so anybody daring can also take a similar approach.and make theirs. I know documenting everything as if it was open source can be demanding but maybe it's required
Absolutely incredible!!! I'm assuming this would do magic with the NI FM8 and even a plain old 6-OP DX7? The only thing that comes close (but NOT really) is the Korg OPSIX user interface.
Why do they hide all these features behind terrible a UI. They should just break it out out of the factory and charge what they need to get out of it. It will be expensive but it will be a classic. Killer video. Sounds amazing. Good job on the controller.
@@rts213 I too am interested in one of these controllers. I was fortunate enough to get an fs1r when they were giving them away in the late 90's. I would gladly support a kickstarter or buy directly. Very awesome device!
I owned an fs1r 1999-2002. I SOLD IT. I have regretted it but never so much as now. Lordy, they go for 2500 bucks now. The fs1r is an amazing instrument and I had to sell it for financial reasons. 900 dollars! Ugh!!!!
I was thinking about creating my own using baranger BCR 2 thousands Are the new pcr 32 that's coming out , For both the 1980s Yamaha And the FSR one Not to mention the tg 77 , I think the original controller that Bryan anium made which saw a very limited production run I'd like a 140 controlling Knobs on it
Hi Axel, thank you. There are actually 2 Arduinos inside, one for the display, the other for MIDI communications. The FS1R receives sophisticated Sysex messages.
"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." And from the interview: Right now I'm thinking about a controller for other devices ... Perhaps for the VL1?
Sounds and looks fantastic...great work!! Takes FM synthesis to a new dimension!! i have been doing similar with the TG77 AFM synthesizer although not to the extent of building my own controller but instead utilizing existing midi controller to control it by midi sysex...
This is incredible. I can sometimes get some amazing results w/ a competent editor (i'm using patch base right now), but nowhere near this. thanks for sharing

ther is a better free editor for fs1r, very easy to use vast interface
@@whatistau Hi, do you have a link to that editor? Thank you.

The metal panel with 7-segment displays is such a perfect aesthetic.
At the bottom left there is also a descriptive panel of the various algorithms that can be implemented
the fs1r was underrated and very VERY much more advanced than its time... this controller is just... wow... smh.... amazing!!
Thank you Robert. Amazing synth which deserves this interface. You are making the FS1R live again.
Insane....What a Piece of Art! I would love to have one to make those 80s Sci-fi film scenes. Great job Genius!
After Robert henke’s monodeck 2, this is the most exicting thing i ever saw. Yes i wish i have one as a fs1r owner and fm lover. Big salute to you.
Whoa, that's so awesome dude! If any synth needed a controller like that it's the FS1R.
This is awesome, can you share the plans to build or any chance I can order one built from you?

I recently sold my FS1R and was amazed at the four-fold price increase. Now I understand why.
Great stuff- probably costs more than the FS1r even at the current prices, but what fun it would be to have all that control
That thing is sick tech
Robert, you are the master of the universe. We are not worthy. And yet we beseech you, please continue to bless us with your sounds.
Amazing! Looks like a Schmidt rival if put together as a single synth😍
Waiting on an Uli FS1r with this level of control.
This is pure X-Files/ Mark Snow material right here. Absolutely epic.
Interesting job! I think it's not simple to drive this magic machine if you aren't a true artist

Tangerine Dream will be calling soon to make you an offer you can’t refuse. This could be a lost T Dream live album from the 1980’s.
wish I had this for my FS1R when I owned it.. Fantastic!
これは凄いわ、FMパラメーターをリアルタイムでコントロールするから変化が凄まじい、神
holy FM...my SY77 would love something like that too...
Also the sounds you are getting out of the fs1r are really great!

That's amazing. Fantastic sounds too. Hopefully Yamaha will take note (I doubt they will :p)
Simply incredible
Fantastic job and many greets! Peter from midiphy :)
Nice controller and synth
This is an absolute beast! Made me think of the Jellinghaus

So jealous of the controller!
WOW man, amazing work and sounds!!!
Would absolutely buy this if available. Please get in touch if that ever happens!

wonderful, great work!
Brian Eno would have loved this
AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING
We need to know more!!
I remember when those things where being sold at guitar center new in Box for 480 dollars lol😂
Wow amazing!! Please do a “how to” build.
Awesome this is what i wished for ever when I bought it in 1998. If you will ever sell it or produce more, let me know :)
I would buy that in a second
Seonded on would be VERY interested on if this controller was ever made available for order.
Music is math.
Das wäre doch mal eine Aufgabe für Korg, Yamaha und Co. Ein FM-Synth mit großzüzigem Live-Zugriff auf die Klangerzeugung.
Sound on!

Robert, you should market it, even in small series. Much more interesting than a Dtronics DT7...
totally agreed
Let‘s see, you might be disappointed about the costs. Piece production by hand is not comparable to mass production at all.
@@rts213 I would like to order one from you, if you are willing to build another one, let me know the estimated cost.
@@rts213 Could you give us a price estimate? Or something? This is fantastic

wonderful
wow!! awesomeness! would you share the arduino code & hardware setup for a DYI kit?
Fantastic
how to make this control console?

Sehr beeindruckend!
Mind to share the build plans and schemes?
I thought this was going to be about a new Yamaha Motorcycle.
If I wanted to pay you to build one for me, what might be the process? Serious FS1R freak.
akamie's castle saw this video and is in therapy now
Unreleased? Using one right now as my doorstopper, never failed me
Excellent :) !
Just brilliant!
Damn y'all he did that!

@@archyology great album!
How do I order it?
How much?
Holy shit!
freaking gorgous unit
This is so fantastic 🙏 ~ I hope to get one out of your fabrication / habe mein Interesse über deine Website gemeldet
Do I really want hat synth with that controller? Why yes, yes I do.
Yamaha missed a trick here..... all that power just waiting to be unleashed! I wonder will Yamaha have another bite of the cherry?
Nice
Hello Robert, is your controller based on a Teensy or Arduino? Can the FS1r reseave all via CC commands? Super work ! And nice sounds !!!!

wow
!!!🤯!!! ERMAHGERD !!!🤯!!!
AMAZING controller!! How long did it take for you to build it!? what an amazing project
Thanks, this was actually a one year project. Still improving here and there…
Das hätte ich gern für den TG77....
Do you have one on sale?!
WOW!
wowwwwwww
Arduino mega does 54 some controls, this looks like 3
I would buy this if it was for sale
Nice!!
I want
I want it
Dear God plz sell me one of these controllers 😭
FM synthez
Yamaha lost something when they abandoned their analog history, some of these legacy synths really just sing in a way that even a Montage can't.
Unbelievable
SY77 below
Want.
Wahn- to the f***ing sinn!
Give Behringer a call ! Or at least send them this clip ! 👍😁✌️🇬🇧🙏
