Skittish Alpaca Hand Shearing Demo

I wasn't sure how hand shearing Kyler would go since this was his first time getting hand shorn at my farm. He was very skittish when he joined our farm to be Milano's buddy last June. I could barely get near him- so I spent a lot of time working with him slowly. You can see some training videos I have with him. He has gotten calm enough but shearing is another story!
I was very determined to hand shear him standing without restraint even though I knew it would be a challenge. For his health safety with the heat in Texas, I did set a deadline that if I couldn't hand shear him by a certain date- I would use the rotating table and restrain him. The whole month, I kept trying but he wasn't too sure but we had a big breakthrough the week before this video.
Anyway- I recorded this so you can see how what may seem pretty impossible can become possible with tons of patience :)

Hi there :) I did spend almost a year prior to this year's shearing training him to be comfortable around me. This didn't happen overnight or in a month. Trust takes time to build especially with skittish alpacas. If you just got your skittish alpaca, start training them with my training demo videos on this channel. Feel free to reach out to me if you'd like more tips in the comments below ;) I feel all alpacas can reach this point with tons of patience :) but most of the work is on us humans to take the time to show the animals we can be trusted- first without anything in our hands and then even with sharp scissors in our hands :) Much love sent to all the animal lovers!!!
