Yes my wife's from Denmark so I have been there over a dozen times in the last ten years. Canada's definitely the envy of the world when it comes to fishing but there are fisheries in Denmark that just do not exist in Canada (BC anyway). The beach sea trout fishing is unique and I look forward to freezing my legs off in December whenever I am there for Christmas just so I can get into fish like this. I also like the big aborre that are available in the estuaries at times.
Thanks Mikk. I wouldn't say fly fishing for them is more difficult. It is certainly more challenging to get the fly out there but I find that sea trout seem to go for flies more often than lures, and they tend to stay on the fly better. Good luck!
Thanks! I've read quite a bit about the winter and spring fisheries in Limfjorden, but it's just a bit too far from Copenhagen. When we have a chance to visit Jutland, it's usually in the spring months. The dry fly creek fisheries are usually what I'd like to do there.
Thank you! :) That's definitely one of my favourite beach spots whenever I am in Denmark. Quite often I see small one following the fly or lure right to the shallow water, this was the first time I encountered a bigger specimen.
I think you'll find the beach fishing in March quite good, better than what I am experiencing right now. :) I'm not familar with Skjern or any other river fisheries in Jylland so perhaps others can provide you the information. Good luck!
The beach cutthroat trout fishing can indeed be quite good at times in BC, as well as in streams, estuaries, lakes. The fishery featured in this video is pretty similar to BC's cutthroat trout fishing, the only differences between the two fisheries are the size of the fish and type of feeds.
hey rod im getting a lot more into fishing and i was wandering where you were in the video becouse id love to visit this spot your videos are very intertaining and educational about differant techniques please show me more on fly fishing
That is a nice fish. Congrats. Fish like that really makes the effort worth while. Great filming and editing aswell, surprisingly good considering the fact that you fimed it all by yourself.
Nice fight rod, you manage to keep the rod high in order not loosing the fish tangled on the thick seaweed. Reminds me of fishing sea bass back home, first light or dusk where they tend to bite, but only for a short time window ,usually between 10 to 15 mn and that is it,,, after some nice action, everything is dead silent, just like fishing on a well. Cheers
Tak! :) Just by luck I managed to capture all of it on video. I immediately set up the video camera once I saw a sign of fish and had a feeling that I may connect with a fish or two. I am normally behind the camera unless someone is operating it so it's nice to get this in a video blog. It is also easier on a beach than a river to have the video camera stationary.
Hey, very nice seatrout, spectaculare jumping. You gotta love seatrout fishing in Denmark, but also rest of Scandinavia. There is something special fishing for seatrout in cold weather in early spring or late fall! :)
Thanks Nigel. Beside the hook-up of the larger fish, my favorite scene of this video is actually the end where I carried the fish away like you said, also the close-up of the waves washing over algae pads. :) The reel is indeed an Islander, LX 3.2. It goes well with my 4 or 5wt. :)
Really nice video. Great that you live in denmark which is close to sweden. I really love fishing sea trout/Salmon because it's allway exciting because you never know when they are attempting to get your bait. My grandpa is also a nice fisherman, pro i would call him . :)
Rod awesome video man, you had me on the line wanting to see more...I loved the end how you carried your keep of the day, great image. One question I have is what reel was that, Islander I presume?
Originally from Denmark. Now landlocked in Austin Texas. Amazing fish! Interesting to see the acrobatics of Salmo trutta (brown trout) being so similar to that of Salmo salar (Atlantic salmon) after some silvering time at Sea
Beautiful video and what a specimen of a trout, congratulations! If you want to experience real good winter/spring trout fishing in Denmark, you should visit Limfjorden in Jutland (Jylland), the salt level are much lower due to a lot of creeks ending there + the water is a bit warmer. Northern territory of Mors (the biggest island in Limfjorden) armed with small 4-7 grams white Stripper/Cola Stripper & Snapper blink (spoon) or fly rod and you´re set for Happy Hours! ;)
my favorite fish right there love them even more when there cooked properly great video too, you seen to be really into your trout fishing glad i subscribed.
Fishing for trout is completely different in my country. The only places you have a chance of hooking one are near stony capes and long shallows going into the sea. I've caught every single one in shallow water near rocks.
@fishingwithrod i have been in copenhagen for a few months now and want to unpack that fishing rod again. found your videos and was quite impressed with the sea trouts you caught. since the coast is very long in denmark i wonder if you would share the location of the "old spot" :) anzy suggestions around copenhagen - from helsingor to Koege maybe. thanks
Hi Rod, I like your videos, i will ask you if you know some good fishing spot around nykøbing sjælland...last week i catch 5 hørnfisk in the harbor but im looking for som trouth, any suggestions?
Hi, Very nice channel and homepage! I have fish seatrout 3,5years. I call 7. season. In this year i,am gonna go with flyrod after "silver" :) I know that its more difficult then with spinning, but its worst it! Keep on going! Best regards: Mikk
Awesome fish. Try to keep your hand set lower when you fight. Hands way up high limit your range of motion left & right; be able to adapt quickly to a fish as she changes direction. Difficult if you in a kayak or boat but wading you need the lower hand. Super jumps like a steel-head.
Thanks. Although I probably release most of the fish that I catch, occasionally I do enjoy taking one for the dinner table. :) That being said, I find these sea trout lacking the fat content that Pacific salmon have, so they are definitely not my favorite fish for eating so I keep perhaps one fish each winter just to remind me how they taste. ;)
I wanna start a organic fish hatchery in Oregon how much would it cost to get some trout eggs or live trout from Denmark? Is that even legal? I just hate genetically modified pellets being fed to my local fish hatcherys and cannot sit back and do nothing
+Lucky Dane For sea trout? I usually go with a Shimano. Anything 2.7 meter or longer works well. It also comes down to how heavy are the lures you are casting. I personally prefer a softer rod, but if you are casting heavier lures then a faster action rod is needed.
What you think and what the law is will differ more often than not. I'll stick to what the law instead of deciding my actions based on what others think. BTW, plenty of my bigger sea trout get released each season. Can't say the same about the locals, who I've never seen releasing a single fish, fresh or coloured.
Thanks. One of the most memorable catches for me.

There should be a love button! This is a great video! I love seeing great fish on the fly in particular.
Thanks Mikk. I wouldn't say fly fishing for them is more difficult. It is certainly more challenging to get the fly out there but I find that sea trout seem to go for flies more often than lures, and they tend to stay on the fly better. Good luck!

Excellent fish! Spectacular even!
I have fished along the coast of Vejby with some success. Lots of little ones that are willing to chase your fly or lure to your feet.
Very enjoyable Rod, watched it all, well done. thanks!
Great video, Rod, loved watching this one again!

Congratulations my friend from Spain.

Nice shots. You got the hook set and jumps. I've been trying to get a shot like that for months about it hasn't work out yet.
I've had good fishing along the north and west coasts, pretty much anywhere that has structured water like weeds and reefs.
Not sure yet, most likely the east part of Sjælland, or might revisit this old spot in the video.
Thanks, I've actually never fished that far south in Sjælland so cannot really help you. Good luck.
Really nice video. Great that you live in denmark which is close to sweden. I really love fishing sea trout/Salmon because it's allway exciting because you never know when they are attempting to get your bait.

Very impressive! Nice fight!

Nice...! Epic fight.
Nice spot! Forget about the haters, they just jealous you found the "spot" for sea trout. As always, great vid for sea trout.
Originally from Denmark. Now landlocked in Austin Texas. Amazing fish!
Interesting to see the acrobatics of Salmo trutta (brown trout) being so similar to that of Salmo salar (Atlantic salmon) after some silvering time at Sea
Thanks. I caught it on a size 6 Grey Frede.
Beautiful sea trout, I wanna catch one of those ! :)
@TheVancouverMan Casting distance is required but you can catch them anywhere from 10ft to 100ft.
Nice you kept it 2! that looks tastyyy!

It is plain and simple magic :)

Awesome video! Keep it up, Rod!
Nice video, Rod!
It was definitely a sea trout!
Thanks. The rod used in this video was just a 4 piece 5 weight, 9'6" rod. The blank is Rainshadow.
Nice fish! The kind we always dream of when we start our cars these early mornings. But dude, you need a net!
Impressive. Very scrappy fish.
@fishingwithrod

Just a simple grey hackle pattern. The rod used to catch these fish was a 4/5wt.

I was cringing when I saw you hold the fish upside down by the tail, I hope fish that are to be released aren't held like that.
Pladsen er ved Vindekilde Strandvej i Nordvestsjælland/ This spot is at Vindekilde Strandvej in the North-Western part of Sjælland
Thanks. Regards a Dane!
+Lucky Dane For sea trout? I usually go with a Shimano. Anything 2.7 meter or longer works well. It also comes down to how heavy are the lures you are casting. I personally prefer a softer rod, but if you are casting heavier lures then a faster action rod is needed.

I'm not from Japan. I fish all over the coast of Sjælland, mainly East, North and West.

No this isn't Bornholm. This is in Sjælland.
