There’s a few other reviews of the same stove that use meths, and less of it. Seems they get a really controlled flame after about 30 seconds, so could just be your choice of fuel that just doesn’t work well with this stove. Hopefully you find a good balance, as it looks a cracking setup 👌🏼

lol you took the disappointment of a perfect upgrade on paper going pear shaped very well 😀.
My little pocket brew kit is the smallest alpkit ti mug (similar size to Keith) with a Toaks syphon stove, mesh frame pot stand and a titanium foil wind shield. All fits in with the same grippers as yours, fuel, spoon and even room to jam in an posh coffee sachet! It’s very well behaved and boils really quick.
Enjoying the variety of the new vids and glad you are enjoying making them. It needs to be fun to be sustainable!

I like the wild camping, i like the vlogs. I like most of it and anything i am not happy with (and it isnt anything i can think of right now) i am mature enough to leave you to it and come back later. Lol! Keep up the good work.

Try little less fuel in the stove, so the fuel doesn’t boil to hard! I believe that the volume of fuel and the holes are to close and then the fuel starts to vaporise and interact with the holes were the vapours is supposed to come out and then it becomes volatile!

Hi Paul, I had a similar experience using the same stove on a wild camp recently. This stove is very wind sensitive. It needs a good wind shield around the whole thing. I just re tested it in my kitchen and it took a couple of minutes to bloom, then 8 more minutes for it to boil 600ml of water. Flames were calm and not a problem. But needs wind protection in the outdoors.

Not sure I'm sold on the Mug Snot...
Cracking little stove idea, but needs some refinement. Looks like the body of the stove is getting way too hot and vapourising the fuel where it shouldn't. Had the same with a home-made beer-can stove in one of those cheapo solid fuel holders like the BCB. Good to see the two of you out chilling together,
    All the best, Pete.

A hammock is a very fine thing for relaxation - only found this out when i was 40! Why did no one tell me? Our son is better informed, we built hammock posts in our garden and now, every time he and his teenage friends go for a cheeky wild camp, he always takes our hammock as well as his tent.
Yeah, don't think the fuel should be boiling in the middle of the alcohol burner, never seen that before. Something not right there. But "Middle Aged Shout-Out" - how satisfying that the whole set-up fits inside itself and then the bag and then your pocket. Oooohh yeeess, how very satisfying!

My first thought - was the windshield the wrong way up?, but Jo thought of that (and I checked the Goshawk website for myself, just to be sure). Looks like the tight-fitting windshield is collecting and transferring heat to the burner and boiling the fuel, raising the evaporation rate and creating far too much pressure inside the burner for safe combustion. Self perpetuating once it takes hold and definitely far too aggressive to use in a tent if you want to stay alive!

  • @MartinWright-eq4pl

Think you maybe put to much fuel in!🤔
On reflection I think the windshield being a tight fit was transferring heat to the burner therefore superheating it, making it boil andof course the vapour is what burns with alcohol. Strange when that's the burner/windshield combo they sell.... just my 2cents!🤔

Hi Paul. It burns in a similar way to one of my home made beer can stoves that has the jet holes near the rim. The other shorter one with the jet holes closer to the centre is much better. You are really good at this you tube video thing. I can see how much time and effort you put into the filming and know the time that goes into editing too. Making engaging videos like you do is not easy.

I see what you mean now Paul. I didn't know it was a spirit burner. Yes, very scary that especially like you say, in a tent. The kit it's self looks smart though. If it had a slit in the side that went half way round the stand, you could get a simmering ring on it which would calm it all down. Second one was manageable though eh!

However, I want to point out that I think using a pole table as a cook top, on top of what looks like very dry grass, is not a very wise choice. here in the US we are having more and more camping places outlawing alcohol stoves use because of fires from well, challenged campers. Please use safety as a first for camping and as an example too. Thank you and look forward to more of your videos.
