      Yep! I got injured a few times last year and kept losing my progress. This year, no big injuries, just got sick a couple times, and I feel heaps better. Next year, aiming to be consistent again, but I'll be able to slightly crank it up

    My top tip is to get a running book to read on your rest day so that you can still be thinking about running while you're not running. I guess you could get a book to listen to while you're running as well, but my tip is that it helps people who find it hard to not run to at least still feel like they're participating during down time. Most inspring books for me are: "Born to Run"; "The Road to Sparta"; "Running Free"; and "Today We Die a LIttle". Thank you so much for your 26.2 tips!

    The positive mindset. Knowing there are other folks who say 'this (running) is hard' but 'we can do hard things'. That's kept me going!!
    And I've found statistics helped me realize I was middle of the pack, when I felt disappointed in my pace.

    My tip to have a bunch of running friends who have similar pace and train together. As you spend 80% of your running easy, having friends to chat is really help.

    Lot of great advice. One of my tips for running -- especially if you want to get faster is get comfortable with being uncomfortable. Hard work will pay off. I think you also nailed it with the advice: keep your easy runs easier than you think. Save your energy for the tough workouts / races.

    On 8 make easy runs easy I agree but am curious as to what pace that should actually be as on Strava I see you do quite a lot of runs at close to a 7:00 min/mile average which isn't far off sub 3 marathon pace. Do you find that pace easy ?

    • @serumser1
      @serumser1 2 роки тому

      easy pace depends of your heart rate. if you know your max heart rate it's just doing the math. my MAX is 184/minute, I do my easy runs between 90-120. in easy run you should be capable of keeping your mouth closed and only breath through your nose, that easy

    • @Weegie2
      @Weegie2 2 роки тому

      Ser 1 ser, easy doesn't mean low heart rate, a common misconception! If on average every single stride is 3x body mass. If you lower your hr by 1bpm but still run at the same pace with the same body mass, from a physical standpoint, the run is no easier than being 1 bpm higher on average. Think of easy as looking to lower your forces from bm x 3 to bm x 2.9.

  • @Weegie2
    @Weegie2 2 роки тому +2

    On a marathon try to avoid running on the racing line, and RUN YOUR OWN RACE! The racing line is not only the busiest line on the course, but it's also a line chosen by somebody else. Choose your own line, and trust your own body and your own decisions.

    Great vlog as always Ben. What are your tips for carrying fuel in a race. For long training runs I use a trail pack, but I do not want to wear that during a marathon. Water is always available on course, but how to carry enough gels? Do you have any tips for multi pocket shorts that can carry say 6 gels? Perhaps "Ben Parkes Marathon Shorts"?

    Some great tips in there Ben, many that I know I’m neglecting myself and should get to work on. Something I have learnt, is not to compare myself to others on Strava, or see out when I am running. Other people are on their running journey, I am on mine and we are all at different stages on that journey. They could be faster (most of the time they are 😀) and that’s ok…I’m doing my thing “Getting It Done” and they are doing theirs. So a question for you and Sarah…..what happened in Valencia, I think you got a 3:05:** ??? Well done on finishing, that’s always my priority. I’m not on any other social media (it dulls the mind 😂). I thought it would have been your next video(?). Anywho, hope you are both well. Keep on getting it done and I will see you in the next one 👍

    Leave the ego at home when it comes to times on strava etc. We can be our worse enemies when it comes to putting stuff up. More worried about what people think than what’s important for the session.
