so Half Life used a modified version of the Quake engine "id tech 3", CS was a mod on top of HL1, team fortress is closer to Quake, but yeah, this is why bhop was possible in cs too, same strafe physics etc. Check out "the fastest quake live video" to see some rocket jumps, very very cool
