Awesome chat. We bought 6 acres of raw land in 2019...slowly getting it ready, moving finally next year. Turned our waiting room into classroom, am so grateful to have been watching, learning and growing with so much help from you! Priceless experience you share. We are older too so it's awesome to feel supported in our endevour. raised beds are great because it's easier on the knees!!! Blessings!
Thanks for this Pod Cast , really enjoyed seeing you all together here and on Sarah and Kevin's Live Stream . Both great talks about Homesteading. Stay safe and keep up the great videos. Fred.
New Subscriber! I love Living Traditions Homestead it seems like I’ve gone to a 4 year college taught by them 😂It’s been 4 years since we left the city and have been on our Homestead I’ve watched Kevin and Sara all this time. I have never thought which animal I’d let go of 1st. Very interesting topics!
This sharing was so insightful! I felt like I was in the room with you four! Try to save your shoulders and carry 1/2 buckets. Now at 70 (can’t believe my age!!!! But I keep going due to our farmstead), I feel that it’s important to pace ourselves on all fronts. Love you four !!!!
❤️LTH!! Been watching them for years and their content has never gotten old. They are honest, hard working, God Loving, Good People!! It was great to sit and listen to a little behind the scenes info!! Great podcast and a great way to start my day. Thanks! ❤😊
Thank you for this Podcast. It was like visiting with friends. I would suggest, though, that while you did not work outside of the home, raising children and keeping the home is honorable work in and of itself. Thank you.
Best podcast ever! I have an urban backyard raised bed garden (13 + herb beds, small orchard etc) and chickens. My favorite season "next season!" Haha! Every question I would have asked Homestead Traditions was asked. I loved it! Been following you both for awhile. Living Traditions Homestead introduced me to you all and I started "keto" that moment. Its been almost a year on Dec 10. Lost 35 and gained back 5 over the past few months due to going Low Carb through the holidays but still no bread/taters/corn/sugar ever. Same reasons as you all. I have gone from keto to carnivore to psmf to low carb. Often doing ketovore makes me personally feel my best. Sarah would do great with episodes for keto/low carb gardening. Has anyone done that? I bet it becomes a hot topic now that we hope to make America Healthy Again. Wanted to say that my inlaws have bought 3 acres and now doing the "instead". My niece also moved out my way and also starting a backyard garden with chickens and a small orchard.
👍 Great Show guys! Nice to see my two favorite couples together on a podcast. Great information you are sharing. Thanks to your podcast I have been on a quest to discover my LOCAL famers and connecting to them. We found a farmer that sells everything. Their pasture raised eggs sell for $6.95 / dz. Raw whole milk is $15/ gal. I think I'm going to get my own chickens in the spring. I'm a full time RN but, very close to retirement and I just don't have the time right now to care for them. I want to spend this winter getting things set up for the spring chicks.
I 100% agree with everything you said! We have had a garden our entire lives my parents had garden as a married wife I always had garden and canned. I attribute that to having really good health also we have stop a high carbohydrate diet and lost more weight! Back in the 1990’s we had the chickens and farm. Now we still have garden even though we don’t have the farm anymore!
Kevin/Sarah : Sooo Glad you said what you did abt being Debt Free, then buying to invest in a future life. Been doing the 'very poor' last few yrs w/ tools, seeds, etc. Thought I was the only crazy one lol. *Have worked for myself & it's hard giving up a socially accepted routine. Now I'd not have it any other way. Wd have to be 'perfect' for me to accept another job. I like the project mentality & never being bored. (😵💫Each day another adventure, ya? ..lol.)
Really enjoyed this conversation. I laughed at the 'chicken eggs' story. I live in the UK and I thought it was funny that they say 'tomato ketchup'. Then I found out there are lots of other kinds including mushroom ketchup. It turns out 'ketchup' refers to the preservation method.
I live on a 40 acre homestead in unincorporated Johnson county, have a full orchard, vegetable garden, 2 freezers full of produce, and 4 fully stoked fishing ponds. My family have lived our entire lives this way. Many people out here, however, didn't take the pandemic seriously at all. And therefor, we lost many people, but it is what it is. For some people they can't hear, they gotta feel. Our society has gotten incredibly soft, and aren't willing to make any kind of sacrifice that puts a crimp in their first world lifestyle. My grandparents had to deal with polio fears, the great depression, and RATION STAMPS during WW2. People would lose their ever loving minds if the government told them how much meat, sugar, and coffee they could buy in today's world.
As a 4th generation native Missourian, I can give you the lowdown. 1: the Ozark region is stunningly beautiful. But lots of poverty and lots of meth 2: North Central is very Ag oriented, but there are also a lot of corporate farms. I feel the best place to be is in unincorporated area of a county just outside of a metro area. Such as where I live, which is Johnson County. Your'e close enough to be a 30-45 drive from everything, including good medical care, but far enough away to avoid all the pitfalls. There is a lot of wild swings in the weather, but we have far les tornadoes, overall. Our yearly average is HALF of what Kansas is, with roughly the same land area. So the counties I recommend are Johnson, Cooper, Saline, Pettis, Randolph, Phelps, Maries, Gasconade, Henry, Moniteau, Cedar, Benton, Morgan, Howard, Miller, Osage, Crawford, Franklin.
Last year I was on welfare and had to I bought 97 cent baloney 4 pack with white bread and mustard .....and bottled water.... No veggies.....and I was depressed and mostly watching tv...with in a month I developed gout and I was only 40 years old.....it was that damn cheap baloney that I used as a main meal .. now I'm walking more and incorporated fruits n veggies and drinking water...
I wanted to chime in. I was a raw food vegan for years mostly due to the animal abuse going on. My husband did amazing on it. My nephew is now vegan. I felt great for a year but then my health took a turn yet I stayed the course for years and almost opened a restaurant. I finally felt I needed to add things back in. Now, being mostly carnivore/keto I have found what works for me. I think factory farming is cruel. Animals living on land by owners like these makes all the difference to me.
@LivingTraditionsHomestead THANK YOU so much for chatting with us!! such a Great Conversation!!

Native Missourian here and yes, everyone figured out land in Missouri was cheap so it no longer is. 😢
Love the podcast!
Thank you all for sharing a few of your lifetime experiences.
Blessings from Southeast Tennessee.
Yes I'm still watching and hoping to Missouri. Maybe this spring.
We also felt a sense of urgency and after much prayer, we moved from Michigan to rural NC Florida in May 2021. So glad we did.

The food in the grocery store is less expensiver than at the farmers' market. People living paycheck to paycheck don't always have a lot of choices.
Interesting podcast. Some great conversations. Well done.
Loved listening to your podcast

A question to all of you, how much do you Love the freedom of living rurally and not having so many restrictions and regulations.
I thought dust’er mud ended their podcast a couple days ago? Is it still on????
Actually we love it so much that we made its very own Channel!! Weekly podcasts about Food Freedom and Farming!

No shade but just not into live broadcasts. I just don’t get into a lot of talk. I like concrete ideas presented simply.
Why do you feel the need to eat meat? I find it very cruel and there are many of us who survive and thrive without it!
Why do you feel the need to question what other people eat? Live and let live.
