I just love it when Kira gets whacked in the face with reality. As overly dramatic Athrun's speech was, he does have a point that Kira can't deny. People won't always agree with Kira and Kira forces his own hand. That's not how peace can be achieved by shouting out stop fighting. It really helps Kira out as a character.
