Excellent song! Just visited bluenose II, what a beauty. I wish more Canadians knew Bluenose’s story more than just shes on the back of the dime. Such a piece of pride for our country!

I have loved the Bluenose since I saw my first dime. Like so much Canada has achieved we need to re unite. I am an Albertan and know Canadian History Don't let our Federal Government tell us we are different we are not.

I visited the Bluenose II when my ship (US Navy) birthed at the same pier in Halifax in '64. Now I'm 75, living in Mexico, and working on a Model Shipways wooden model of her. Life is funny sometimes.

Hi Pete, thanks for watching and commenting. I'd be interested in seeing a picture of your model when it is finished. We are of the same vintage, give or take 5 years. I'll be 70 in April. Shalom my friend, stay safe.

I was born in Canada, so this song never fails to remind me of the achievements that were made in Canada especially the creation of the Bluenose!

I posted this at other channels but I thought I'd put it here too:
It was back in 1964 and I was a small boy playing outside the new light keeper’s quarters on Sambro Island located just off the mouth of Halifax Harbour, Nova Scotia when my father then head keeper on the island ran down the path from the light tower to me. Taking me by the hand and rushing back up to the ocean side of the lighthouse he knelt beside me and pointed out to sea and said, “Look son! See her? Its the Bluenose!” Now, being five years old I had no idea what a Bluenose was but I did see a black hulled tall ship sailing past the seaward side of the island ... the Bluenose II. It was a cold, blustery day and the sea was rough spitting white caps from her grey depths but such fury was no hardship for The Bluenose II because, she like her ancestor was as the song says, “best under full press and hard over as she lay” sending swaths of spray wide and far as she cut the waves like a knife. I thought she was the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen. I still do.
My father and I were her only audience that day and we watched her until she faded from view. While she was never raced I can say I saw the daughter ship of schooner Bluenose, Canadian legend, the pride of Nova Scotia, and heart and soul of Lunenberg new and in her youth under full canvas and doing what she was born to do ... making speed on the North Atlantic in rough, grey seas.

First titanic followed by Britannic and now Bluenose?
    Holy goodness
Why am I suddenly so enthusiast about ships?

I like this song. I've never heard this before. I am a Nova Scotian displaced from my home many years ago. This makes me feel proud of Nova Scotia again.

The blue nose won those cups before gaming was legally allowed in Canada. The song is about the pride of the win, of the craftsmanship that went into making it and to many others to list, including her crew. The race for the pride of winning for Canada, Not for money.
