It's easy to say that from your POV but men get shit on for just breathing nowadays so try to have a little compassion instead of instantly getting defensive and saying "well not all men" which doesn't change the fact that the majority of western men feel attacked because there's women out there that consider anything they do toxic.

A decade ago, my little brother was an obese kid. I started taking him to a 3 mile ealking trail at the park. He eventually went from barely walking and sitting on benches to lightly jogging the entire trail. He jogged pass all sorts of people, but the only people that cheered him on with, "Keep going, bro! You got this!" were super duper ripped men. These moments have stuck with him til he became healthy for his age 8 years later. He loves jogging now.

Those Bros may have been obese at one point in their life so they know or at least sympathetic enough to empathize with someone who's trying to better their life.
And I believe that they've probably gotten to a point in their life where nobody believed in them so they see themselves in your Lil bro who's trying hard enough.

I'm fit but don't workout regularly anymore. I remember I would go to the gym mostly to get out of the house and get my heart rate up and feel good and I would always be silently cheering on the people around me. The fact that you made it to the gym and are trying is amazing. You don't have to be the best or the biggest, the self improvement aspect is the coolest thing for me. The fact that everyone is in a space together at the same time bettering themselves is so so cool.

Fast forward two weeks. I'm still shy and embarrassed. Gymbro approaches and asks if I'm trying to lose any weight. I almost had a panic attack.
He proceeded to show me proper form, explained reps, he even filled out a pseudo meal plan for me. This was just a dude at a gym, not even a trainer!

We asked him how he got as big as he was, and the man looks at us deadpan and says “Rice”. Just having him in the weight room with us was motivating as hell. You see him pushing as much as he is, then see what’s on your bar, and the whole mindset changes.

so the issue that some people may see in the gym bro community is that some men will comment some stupid things under videos of other people lifting, saying that they can bench, squat, deadlift more than them and that their weight isn’t impressive and yada yada. it is more prominent in videos where women are posting videos of themselves lifting. while the community in general isn’t toxic, there are some guys who just think are better because they can lift more. this also bleeds into the whole “which deadlift stance is better” and the toxic gym bro will say that sumo is cheating and whatnot, even though majority of the time when they’re doing a conventional stance, they usually have their back bent af ready to take shit in. they don’t understand that anatomy and structure matter, so some people are better off using one form over another. some of these men in the video who has their back bent are better off using sumo when deadlifting heavy weight because their back will be straighter and prevent injury. but of course they don’t wanna be shunned by those who say sumo is cheating.

We had guys and girls of all ages after a few years. We never made any money with it but the mastering of weaponry and the training of war with a group was unique and worth it. My YT channel was dedicated to promoting it. But that was a long time ago now.

The mood changed because so many men were being dragged online for being creepers, even if they were just glancing at a woman and then back to their own business. No man wants to be shamed for not doing anything. So we decided since other women in the Gym spaces seem to be supporting this "shame gym Bros" mentality coming from some female gym users, good luck. We won't help random women and make sure they are safe if it means risking looking like perverts unjustly. That shit can ruin relationships.

We need male spaces. This would have never come about if it was an all male space. Men don't use false sex related accusations as a tool for gaining power. More men need to stop including women in males spaces.
It's not discrimination and any soft pussy boys who think that will get set straight in those spaces. The last remaining all male spaces is boxing gyms with strict rules and rules on keeping your membership. Those boxing gym are rare. Weeds out the women and the men who are not serious about keeping up. Keep up or get cut. How many gyms have that policy. Not many. It's a sad state to see men give their spaces and complaining about how women are treating them in those "unisex" spaces.

I don't think thats the right way to handle it. People need to realize that the numbers of women doing that are VERY FEW statistically speaking, most women in gyms won't do that. Fax. Not worth the risk. A similar thing happened in the corporate world because so many women began falsely accusing male bosses/higher ups of inappropriate remarks, gestures, or even harassment. A lot of men started having exclusively open door meetings with women and not doing meetings over dinner or lunch at restaurants because of how onlookers perceive the situation. Some have even been pushed to avoid meeting alone with female coworkers because no man wants to lose his job or have his life ruined for no reason.

@Broskisnowskino, it's since smartphones rotted an entire generation's brains to believe nonsense things. I, as a woman, remember my early days of only taking an MP3 player to the gym. No phone to post thirst traps etc. Women would wear typical tight lycra outfits but not tiny booty shorts going up their butt cracks (because it's not comfortable to work out in). And people just looked at each other if someone passed in their eyeline. It wasn't something to give a second thought to. Adults just managed to get along somehow.

I mean the support I got was so surprising to me, especially since I was pretty fat when I started going and lost lots of weight since. It's so important to me and now my little brother as I introduced him to the people i work out with and they have completely taken him under their wing, and he is skinny but definitely making improves, skinny or fat we both got just as much support from the guys at the gym, honestly the most body positive environment to be in.

It's like how some girls will dislike another girl because she's got giant knockers and they're jealous lol. I'm a gym bro myself and I love going to the gym. In my opinion the negative stigma comes from certain people who believe the gym is some sort of holistic cure for mental illness, depression, anxiety. That simply isn't the case, I suffer from social anxiety and while I love the gym it hasn't helped me in that regard at all. It's the idea that going to the gym is going to solve all your problems that is pushed and kinda toxic so I see where people are coming from. But for the most part the gym community is very accepting, wholesome and supportive.

I think the idea of "the buff douchebag" type gym bro, comes primarily from a few rare bad apples and from an archetype that's mainly played up in movies and TV.
It's not even really a stereotype as much as it is an insecurity displaying as a stereotype, everyone is gonna feel self-conscious their first time going to the gym because they're afraid of being judged, when the reality is that everyone who goes there and has been there a long time, started right where you were once.
I personally haven't been to a gym before, since I'm stuck doing what I can inconsistently at home.
But when you think about the sort of person who truly makes training a part of their lifestyle, what sorts of personalities will be drawn to that?
People who are resilient, potentially people who are potentially more extraverted, people who have learned that discipline is important, and people who are polite and at the very least don't mind being around other people.
Now that's a vast oversimplification, but when you understand how important gym etiquette is, the fact that people of all genders, races, ages, and backgrounds will go there with their primary purpose being to become a better version of themselves.
Quite frankly that's almost the exact sort of space where it's very difficult for toxicity to take root, because everyone is there for their own reasons, it's very unlikely to develop any sort of mob mentality, but also because it's an environment that's based in self-improvement first and foremost, anyone looking to cause trouble or be an ass is gonna stand out like a sore thumb.
Plus, you know how dumb someone's gotta be to start an argument or try to pick fights or be confrontational in a place where ANYONE could be stronger than you even if they don't look it?-
Nah, pair that with the fact that a gym is a business that wants to keep their customers happy, you start showing your ass in even a minor way, you'll be escorted out the door and have your membership revoked.

Agree, like I would honestly like to see which community is allegedly more genuinely supportive while at the same time promoting a healthy lifestyle.
For example, people often bang on about how great the alphabet community or religious communities are yet both of those communities will quickly turn their backs on people as soon as they decide it's not right for them. There is a lot of hypocrisy coming from the so called "kind" groups while the gym community just don't complain and get on with their lives.
