I want to feel bad for Checo, but he's raced around the Red Bull Ring enough times to know that track limits are enforced particularly more strictly around this circuit than most, he should've played it more conservative especially in that last corner. I think he's just too eager to beat Max to prove a point, but it's backfired massively. Hopefully he can redeem himself in the sprint and the GP.
Yeah I don’t get it. Same thing happened in Monaco, just pushing way harder than he needs to in Q1 and 2. In a car like that, he can take his time ramping up to Q3, but instead it’s just balls to the wall until he bins it

"I think both Perez and Russell are similar in that they can overdrive and get 101% out of average cars, but once the cars are top of the crop, the cracks begin to show with mistakes and pressure mounting" That doesn't make sense to me tbh when looking at where Perez has been on the leaderboard these past few races. A great car will be faster than an average car when driven hard, obv. And a great car will also be sympiotic with the driver and not as unforgiving as say the Haas in 2021. Otherwise we would see Max slipping up as well, since even he makes mistakes. Two weeks ago he almost binned it. A lesser car would surely have been sent into the barrier.

When Ricciardo joined Red Bull as a third driver, I didn't think he had any realistic chance of getting a seat. But given how much Perez is struggling, I think he actually has a chance.
He won’t. Helmut Marko is on record saying that Ricciardo is slower than Max and Perez in the simulator. He also said that “something happened to Ricciardo” during his time at Mclaren, heavily implying that Ricciardo isn’t the same driver that he was back when he was a Reb Bull race driver.
@@jermaineayivoh8263marko said that during the first month when he rejoined; they later said how he has improved and is getting back to how they remembered him
Why do you feel bad? It's his mistakes and he needs to do better. He's not a rookie and shouldn't be making these mistakes. RB told Max and he immediately took measures. Perez on the other hand...
The only issue I have with the Track Limits is how long it takes for the team to find out. If they knew sooner, they could adjust their strategy accordingly. But when it takes 3-5 minutes to find out, that's kind of an issue. But in terms on tracks limits being a thing, I have no issue with it. It's been said many times, if it was a wall and not a line, they wouldn't cross it.
It seems like you forgot about Lando-- P4 in quali was a great position! Understand he might not finish there, but he's been good at Austria previously.
Ahem: don't you see the connection between the two? Perez got times that came reasonably close to Verstappen's in Q2 (which Verstappen set securely and without taking much risk) by going outside the track limits. So those where not secure professional laps, but gambles, that he got punished for (and still slower than Verstappen). To win you need to do 2 (!) things: A.) be FAST, and B.) be fast in a consistent and stable manner, so that you actually get to KEEP your times. Perez is failing time and again in a futile attempt to get close to Verstappen, which he simply is not able to do.
And it wasn't just Checo, either. A lot of drivers had times deleted... and not just this year either. I think this tells us that something needs to be done. Maybe widening the Red Bull Ring track by about a foot either side could solve it? Or how about this crazy idea that no-one has ever thought of: *shrink the size of the cars down.*
I LOL-ed at the start of the year when many were saying that Checo would challenge Max for the title. Checo cracked earlier than we were used of Bottas
@@bevanmcnicholl2525tbf I think at current skill Albon and Gasly would do pretty well. Let's not forget the RB that Gasly and Albon drove wasn't a very good car, literally the only reason RB got wins and podiums was because Max was driving at an insane level (and has been since).

Exactly. People need to remember that that second-seat is a poison chalice at Red Bull while Verstappen is there. Look at what happened with Gasly and Albon. They got eaten up and spat out before they could prove themselves worthy. Same would happen with whoever else they put in that seat. On the plus side, those drivers post Red Bull went on to become massive fan favourites with incredible drives and performances! Gasly 2020 Monza and Albon last race out in Canada, for instance. Red Bull lately have a knack for finding talent, ruining it, and then letting it go to actually flourish.

Last year it explained the role that Lewis and George were playing leading to George appearing better but people said they were just giving excuses for Lewis. In the end of season debrief it was confirmed.
The second half of 2022 removed all doubt. Yes, George got the one pole (thanks to DRS failure for Lewis in qualifying) and the Brazilian win (thanks to lottery qualifying and George benefiting from causing his own red flag, plus Max hitting Lewis in the race), but Lewis was consistently much faster after the summer break. If not for at least 3-4 podiums lost due to bad luck with safety cars and other issues, Lewis would have outscored George too.
@dereksbooks the first half was smoke and mirrors for Russell, he had free pit stops in like 8 of the first 10 races or some such unsustainable craziness. Lewis benefited from none of them. Without that stretch, Lewis would have looked as dominating as he really was all season. Russell should be thanking Perez because if not for how atrocious he's been, Russell would be under more scrutiny.

Lewis was unlucky last season. Lewis is clear if George. Lewis has never finished less than p6 this season. And 3 podiums. He has been incredibly consistent.
2022 Lewis Hamilton was experimenting the entire first half of season. Every week was a different set up for Lewis trying to find what works best for the car. Cannot compare with George who just drove "the standard setup". So technically George did not do better than Lewis. Now 2023 they are on level playing ground with the car, and we are seeing the numbers with Lewis ahead. Cannot expect Lewis and George to ever be on same points level with a decent car.

I'm glad they're properly enforcing track limits fr once. I know the Red-Bull-ring is tough when it comes to this but the least you should expect from an F1 driver is that they keep the car between the damn white lines.
What options do they have though? Surely anyone would be better than what Sergio has done since Monaco though? I would want someone who likes a similar car balance as Max.
they really need to do something about that final turn, 2 years in a row(that i can remember at least, could be more) with flurries of deleted laps. Its good that track limits are being enforced, but when you have so many drivers having laps deleted, its a problem with the track.
I don't understand why everyone talks about DE Vries being not good enough for F1, but no one talking about Kmag getting DESTROYED in nearly every quali by Hulk. Do he Mag deserve this seat?
Yes , because when the russian was there at HAAS he was getting the points, modern F1 fans are ready to write off drivers race by race its ridiculous! This is not Instagram!
+ this time around, Tsunoda only did a 16th at only 2 tenths ahead of him. Wouldn't call that much of a stinker from De Vries but more from the car itself
Mick actually beat KMag head to head in races last year 12-9… sure it was for pointless positions many times ,,, and Kmags high points were better then Micks… but the fact remains in 12 races Mick finished ahead of him…
It's just the little narrative games the brits like to play with fans of notables (Ric) and other rb talents hoping on that seat. Btw rb is also the most likely to do the ol switcheroo mid season so to be fair it makes Sense
At this point, it's more of a question of whether the RB19 is as good as we thought or is Max doing the same as Charles and squeezing everything out of the car and making it look so fast. Obviously, the RB19 is a fast car but I feel like even with a fast car Perez shouldn't be doing that bad unless he's just getting worse over the season.
The RBR is fast, Max is an alien and Perez is mediocre. The consistency of max is frightening. Even races where things don't go his way he pulls a trick out of the bag and wins. At qualifing first banker laps are almost always good enough for pole. Conditions don't matter, in the rain he is even faster. History in the making.
I think it's a mix of everything, the RB19 is FAST but is it 20 seconds faster per race fast? Probably not. It's still definitely the best car in the grid but we're likely seeing Max squeeze every ounce out of the car. Ooooor Checo is slouching and Max is struggling to not fall asleep during the race lol

Sunday use Fridays qualifying position (forcing the teams not to sandbag for sprint), normal race.
Remember when the Red Bull seat was between Hulk and Perez!!? And Perez got it... And now Hulk has more Q3 appearances that Perez in a HAAS?! All I'm gonna say is I was rooting for the Hulk back then...
I think the opposite tbh, especially on a track with so much non-grass/gravel surfaces. If they truly don't want to see drivers going over the track limits, just bring closer grass patches, or even gravel directly. Idk, feels quite hypocritical, it's almost like Paul Ricard would have severe track limits while the track is litteraly a fuly-surfaced parking lot
The difference between Lewis, Max and Fernando, and George, Charles and Checo is consistency over long periods. Norris was approached by RB apparently and he chose McLaren again. Probably gave him a way better contract. Norris and Marko both confirmed these talks.
Checo's gonna stay. Though he's struggling, his role suits the way redbull works as a team. He's not really challenging Max and he's also picking up points. Both Championship covered.
Pretty much. He's been in a slump, although his last lap time in Q2 was fractions away from Max's, but in any case what they've been able to accomplish with him is what they always wanted with Albon and Gasly.
Sometimes I wonder if Haas has 2 different cars. One for qualifying and one for the race. Last year, Mick got outqualified by Magnussen but beat him in the race (based on positions, not points). This year, Magnussen gets outqualified while he and Nico are currently equal in race finishes (4 both although Magnussen DNF'd twice)..
I will be busy tomorrow but I will just watch the better longer version of the sprint on Sunday. I think it’s called the Grand Prix. If I avoid highlights I might actually be surprised by the race too.
For those who don’t know it’s not specified but checo has stuff going on at home with family. Not specified what exactly but apparently it’s traumatising
Remember when everybody was mad when he kept his seat instead of ocon. Not sure when or why people had a change of heart but hes at the same skill level as he was then just in a better car.

I think Russel is definitely a stronger driver than Perez. He’s consistently closer to Hamilton than Perez is to Max for sure.

I think you are underestimating how bad Perez is *right now*.
