I was born 1975 & in Dublin Ireland, We Say born in the 70s, Rared in the 80s & Worked & Partyed in the 90s, I lived in Birmingham for a few months in Ladyswell area, I was Boxing over there in the late 80s but always remember my Late Best Friends Brother always had either UB40 or Bob Marley playing on Records or tapes, I 1st seen them over 30 years ago with my 2 late Friends, in the RDS, back then you paid cash at the door, lucky 4 us, the Security Gaurds were from our housing estate, to say the least we got in 4 choice, in Ireland Choice means 4 nothing, even after getting a nice touch, a few goodies that sold like hot cakes, then again 2022, & 2024 seen them Best days of my life, UB40 is not UB40 without Ali Campbell singing each concert I,ll never forget me & my Lady done it old school, bit of Smoke 🚬 🟩& 🍻🥃 RIP ASTRO & RIP BRIAN☘️
Except for the drummer, who is on par with Jimmy Brown, the rest of the band is below par, notably the boisterous Father Christmas on percussion. Ali's vocals are acceptable.
Agree, except regarding the drummer. I don't think he is as authentic reggae wise as Jimmy and appears to require click / count in for Red Wine and Can't Help. This has caught Ali out constantly as he forgets and the songs often have to be restarted.
@@mikesanders7098 he does not bring anything to the party, percussion i suppose but the shouting , swearing and strange voovoozala sounds( not sure how that is spelt) is not doing anything other than annoy the public and lets Ali down, get rid of him and get a guitarist in who can do harmonies instead of the 2 geezers just standing there doing backing vocals. Mind you UB40 have now opted to have a couple of backing vocalists wth, Gilly G is a must but not sure what Mat Campbell brings . Seems like both sides of the bands are copying eachother. Oh well we now spend most of our spare time watching Showaddywadyy they are an excellent band

Look at Robin, Jimmy, Norman, and Earl, always calm. When Ali's band is performing One in Ten, the saxophonist steps in for the missing lead guitarist during the guitar solo part. I also find myself wondering how much Matt Campbell contributes to the vocal section. Maybe leaving a Campbell in the band is part of the succession plan. After the Moonlover experiment, Gilly, the unsuccessful rapper, entered covertly as a toaster in an attempt to fill the vacuum left by the late Astro.
So much missing musically and vocal harmonies. Show is made very tacky by the loudmouth percussionist. This isnt and never will be comparable to UB40s performances.
They haven't had one for a while Del. Sometimes but not all I think they trigger a lead guitar riff sample in Food for Thought. They don't feature the guitar riff in King though at all. Very poor.
I don't think Ali fans in general have a clue on how the band is supposed to sound and probably don't care. They are there for the lead vocal only which these days is nothing more than sufficient.
Yeh its all very empty , you cant really hear him chopping on his guitar, barely plays it by the looks of it. 2 backing singers who you cant hear and an annoying foul mouthed geezer who would be better off just keeping his gob shut , but stop trying to make sounds reminicant of an Ibiza niteclub ffs
