The untreated vocal already sounds better than anything I've ever mixed.
I know right😭💀💀💀
Check out our video on recording good quality vocals! It will help a ton.
@@MakePopMusic I've watched it but I need an acoustic shield for my mic AND a better mic to be honest.
@@Remu- blankets and pillows go along way, also if u have a walk in closet, hang your cloths 2-6inch off the wall. Also works really well
@@stevenswisher4339 I tried a blanket over my head once but it was a bit hard to use the PC 😂
Holy shit, thank you so much. This might be the best mixing start to finish I’ve seen. Your raw vocal is ACTUALLY raw. I’m having such a hard time mixing my vocal for live stream. I’m a pretty dynamic singer so it’s getting a little complicated doing it in real time, but this was a good reminder of the follow up and that doing too much is probably hurting. Thanks!
This man is nice af. You’ve really mastered the craft of mixing. Will be running this video back over and over.
You're the man! I replayed so many sections of this to fine tune some vocals. I compared the same exact vocal, and your setup sounded sooo much cleaner. I'm using an SM7B so I had to adjust a little bit for the lack of high end. I should probably grab the Virtual Mix Rack since the plugin spaces fill up so fast in Cubase! I'm also glad to hear that a pro is using VariAudio (I personally love it). Thank you for all you do.
Always love watching your new videos, Austin. Good content!🔥
You're the best - love the attention nd care you put into your music and ur videos!! LOVE!!
Beautiful recording and mixing. Thanks for some of the tips. Merry Christmas!!!!
amazing comprehensive tutorial as always, love this channel.
Love the video about vocal mixing, I would love to see you do a video when the beats drops with all the instruments and drums explaining how to keep the vocal
Upfront when evrything is going, not only when it’s a more quiet part
your videos always help me and I appreciate you for it!!!!
Wow, this is a gold mine -- I realized I don't have a clue what I'm doing with vocal processing. Amazing work man
Wow, great tutorial! Probably the best I've seen!
Just LOVE your voice and productions Austin ~ Peace, Love & MUSIC 👍😎
this is what i need and want thanks bro
BRO LOVE THE Podcast
You're the man, love your content, thank you!
Most enjoyable mixing video. Nice. Great teacher.
Wow this is an amazing vocal mixing tutorial. Definitely helped me & the genre im working on isnt pop but this information definitely helps
thank you, sir, for this informative video.
This was super helpful, thanks man!
The vocals are the bomb!!!
Thank you!
Thank you! I always struggle to make my vocals sound clean and finished.
Dude you actually are the best
Hey,Austin,You have a Great Voice!
Man I really wish I could get that transparency lol. Been watching you for years and still struggle to get vocals this clean. That band passed distorition was just smooth as butter
This was very succinct ty
Wow, excellent, damn-love it!
That vu meter trick was super helpful. Thanks
I LOVE THIS 💥💥🔥🎙️🎙️🎙️
God these vocals sound SO good!! Goals AF :')
Amazingly informative as always, Austin. Thanks for including us!😄
Always love your stuff!!
@@MakePopMusic 🤗
Amazing thx ;)
thanks so much!
lovesss it
Thank g-d I found this channel 🙏
Totally agree on getting it right at the source. Just tracked a single and my mic wasn't cutting it so I ordered a Telefunken. When a bunch of tracks stack up it really shows the quality or lack of.
Absolutelyyy
Hey Austin, those are some straight up gems as usual, you taught me to pay more attention to modulation and rooms & spaces, I used to slack off on those just slapping my Valhalla Vintage on everything and calling it a day haha but now I'm way more mindful of "spacing" in my mixes, all thanks to you
P.S. Wish you touched on that instrumental as well, cause it's pretty dope, are you gonna release the full song any time soon? You didn't even let us hear the full chorus :c
I wonder if those background chorus vocals were you pitch/formant shifted or just arcade/some third party samples
Excelent content bro
this is ACE. thanks so much :)
nice tutorial bro
Great video! It would be interesting to hear you mix something that is intentionally dark, like Billie Eilish’s albums for instance. Where there’s no Autotune, a lot of “tubbiness”, and very attenuated high frequencies in the vocal, prominent harmonies, etc. Recently had to mix this opposite style and it’s a whole different beast to get right
I kinda did that on the Harry Styles video and Silk Sonic videos we did! Mixed them dark and analogish.
Hey man sick video! btw can you make a tutorial on how to make electronic darkwave like mareux, mr kitty, crystal castles? 🙏
Lauten makes some really great mics! Especially for the price.
IT WAS UNIQUE
thanks
Another fantastic video! Love the breakdowns. Any chance in the future you could do the R&B side of Justin Bieber changes album? 🙏🙏
Definitely the hardest part as a mixing engineer is wondering if your client is gonna send you a good recording of the vocals
This was solid! Thanks! I think one of the biggest takeaways is to have a great recording in the first place. It’d be interesting to see your process for less-than-ideal vocals, cheap mic, untreated room etc.
Ordered a $25 usb mic to see how it holds up
@@MakePopMusic oh we’re going extreme 😂 I figured a blue yeti but we goin blue snowflake 😭😅
@@Jeffmylife Oh it's some no name amazon mic hahahaha
This dude is a great engineer
Please release this song!!!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭❤❤❤❤❤
Do you make use of vocal parallel compression? If so can you make a video about it to explain in a tutorial?
The vocal coming before the mix was good to go already. I need to see how you did that vocal recording
We have a video on how to record vocals!
Bro where have you been my whole life 😩
What do u think about the akg c414 mic on vocals? Any tips on using this mic with female and male vocals or any general tips when recording vocals with this mic?
can you do a video on how to make songs similar to glaive - three wheels and it still drives?
hey austinm great video as usual, may I ask do you do the same for other vocal takes like BVs and adlibs?
Pretty much! Sometimes I tune and compress BGV a bit more, and I will eq out some low mids and add some shine.
Where can I listen to the full song? The drop sounds sick af
thats a nice mic . you should do a adlibs misx effects video. i like those distortion effects. your raw vocals sounded nice and bright already. i have a tlm 103 and an apollo x any suggestions to get the best take with that mic?
I can do some adlibs content!!
TRM103 into an Apollo is solid! Definitely just get a good clean signal coming in and you shouldn't need TOO much in the mix!
Bro im totally new to your channel aswell as new to mixing my vocals, how would I go about finding out what pligins are compatible with the daw im using? Unfortunately im on a super tight budget rn between medications and funerals so im using cubasis 3 for ios.. thanks
Hey! on the raw vocal, was there compression on the way in?
No irony, I’m a pro, and this vocals sound extremely good. Well well done Sir
Hey 👋 can I get in touch. Wanna learn some few tricks
Do the slate bundle plugins work in cubasis 3?? Also does anyone know how I find out what other plugins are compatible with cubasis 3?? I'm new to mixing aswell as this daw so just trying to find out what I can or can't use with it.. thanks
Edit: also when you say tuning an time lining by hand are you referring to making slight placement adjustments to be sure the vocals are hitting just where you wanted them to, an doing things like removing unwanted breaths an dead air noise first before doing anything else?? Thanks a million for the tips an the way you explained everything, youve definitely got a new subscriber here fam!!!
one of the best tutorial on youtube subd
Did you send the 1/4 delay back over to another reverb send?
Hey Austin! How does the sound of the LA-320 compare to the LA-220 in your experience? I was considering buying the former, but your recent mic shootout made me wonder if it's worth the price upgrade. Thanks for the content!
I love them both but they sound pretty different. If you like the warmth of a tube, go 320! If you just want a simple FET large condenser, go 220
Listening
Off topic but you are so pretty omg
Hi, love your videos! May I ask you what waves bundle are u using? Thank you so much 😊
I believe I have Mercury but I bought it literally forever ago and have added so many extra random Waves plugins over the years.
@@MakePopMusic thankyou!!
THANKS mixing vocals is such a pain in the ass!!! (for me )
Please could you make a video where you showcase your vocal volumes and mic gain because each time I have to normalise my audio and it clips but then when I don't it doesn't sound loud enough. When I use a higher gain it clips and when I take it down it isn't loud enough. So how can I increase the gain of my vocals without normalising. Also how loud are your vocals compared to the beat
We have one! Check it out ua-cam.com/video/nu0UMShBMJE/v-deo.html
Really want a video on mixing a song!
Mixing a song is too much to cover in a UA-cam video. It's so important to see every step and understand what is being done in real time. That's why we do mixing tips, but don't cover mixing start to finish. We do have a course on our site that covers that!
@@MakePopMusic OK thanks I will check out the course
does anyone know the names of the compressions he uses?
Sir which software is this?
my friend! how to make a vocal mix like in this song "SB Maffija - Lawenda"
Yerrrrr
i'd be interested to know why you don't choose to de-ess earlier in the chain. You're a total beast, awesome work! It's obvious you work ALOT LOL Holy shit.
Sometimes I will de Ess before the first compressor! Sometimes it doesn’t need it yet
How many layers were the lead
Do you always record vocals to stereo tracks now? Or do you track on Mono and then drag it over to a stereo track to use the insert chain shown here?
Record on a mono track in and then drag to a stereo to add any stereo fx I want!
When you put delay or the slap Delay via Send... Does it get fed by the dry vocal? Isn't that strange to have a very wide very vocal but dry delay???
It's being fed by the dry vocal! And no, it's sooooo subtle in the mix, it just kinda makes the dry mono vocal gel with the instruments around it a little more. It's used in most commercial pop mixes out right now.
❤️✨️
I dont see FG-BM7 on my slate reverb suite either. Is it an add on?
It's a free add on! You can download it from their site!
Is this song out? 🔥
Bro started with good vocals. You need to start with my trash voice and turn that into gold
Watching this while thinking, "I can't achieve the same result wif my usb mic, can i?" Anyways, this is good for future reference😮👍. Probably gonna grab sm58 plus cheap behringer audio interface some time soon😆
I literally just bought a $25 usb mic and I’m gonna see if I can get it to sound useable!
@@MakePopMusic Woa! What mic is that? I'm using the fifine k678. Honestly speaking, it's good for rap, but it can't be used for ballad and rock. It'll clip at the high note since it lack dynamic, i guess? Hahahaha. But yeah, i'm really hoping u'll make a video on that mic, Austin!
Can you mix a song for me
😘😍❤️I am Sri Lankan❤️😍😘😘😍❤️I am from Sri Lanka❤️😍😘😘❤️😍Amazing❤️😍😘
what daw is this
Cubase
😘😍❤️
is it you singing the song?
Which daw you use bro ?
Cubase 12 Pro!
@@MakePopMusic thanks bro. What you do is soooooooooooo essential. I have to create that crayon sound like what you create one day. I'm obsessed over watching your videos ESPECIALLY LISTENING TO THE SPUNDS YOU CREATE WITHOUT A TOP 2 DAW LIKE LOGIC AND PROTOOLS. I SAW CUBASE AND LIKED IT BUT NOBODY DID A REVIEW ABOUT I LIKE UNTIL I STUMBLED UPON YOU NOW I GOT TO GET IT. YOUR POP MIXING ARE CRAYONS BRO.
@@MakePopMusic nobody on UA-cam mixing sounds like yours who use cubase 12 pro. You're an ultimate machine bro. NEVER STOP THAT SHHHHHH!
@@MakePopMusic 🍻
Bro did you ever drop this song??
I didn’t hahaha
@@MakePopMusic haha dude please! Besides the fact that it's in my head from this video. It's ballin
why is your vocal in Stereo and not in Mono?
If I want to use a stereo effect like modulation, chorus, etc then it has to be a stereo track. It's still just a mono vocal track, dragged to a stereo audio channel.
Comment baby.
your std vocals show how good your recording chain alone is :D
lol
Your voice is similar to that of the Weeknd
Idk but my rough vocals not sound like that and idk how everyone who is teaching on you tube getting sound like that
Solid mic, solid interface, decently quiet room, good level coming in, and a good vocalist etiquette. We have a whole video on recording clean vocals
Mixing Vocal tutorial with a stereo file? Well...Should be a mono source... Not a stereo one. But ok..Nice video...
Nah, I have a mono vocal but I'm using it on a stereo track in case I wanted to add something like a chorus or modulation (which I do in this track). In Cubase, if you're on a mono track, you can't use any stereo inserts.
@@MakePopMusic I understood... But in any case you could use 1176 La2a on mono version... It's what I meant.. 😂... You're the best.. 😳😝
why do you reffer to yourself as "we"? are you a singular entity?
Make Pop Music is me, and my wife who is our content editor / project manager. And sometimes I’m also referring to our community, artists I work with, collaborators, the people watching following along, etc.
Sorry I didn't catch it but why don't you wanna fall in love again?
I respectfully think we need to go back to the days before auto tune. There was actually a time and the vocals were still killer. It's to the point where nearly everything sounds the same. I can understand why the genre of music you make requires it though because that same genre essentially relies on it. I find myself enjoying music more when the vocals are imperfect and unique and don't sound like everything else. Maybe that's just me.
I disagree. I think we have some old records that have good vocals and stand up, but I hear SO many “classic” records with awfully pitchy and annoying vocals. Also, now with everything being pretty synth based and computer based, every element is always in perfect tune. If I play with a band, there are two guitars, a bass, and live drums so everything is always a little out of tune, so a flat or sharp vocal doesn’t feel super abrasive. A flat vocal on a pop record is almost unlistenable.
@@MakePopMusic I see where you're coming from. I still think that as humans we are more attracted to things that are imperfect to a degree. Music included. I love your channel you are very good at what you do!
