I remember hearing this for the first time when I was about 7-8. I loved it. It was the first song and this was the first album that made me really start loving and strongly believing in God. I remember sitting in my room as an 8 year old crying over this song. Crying over how beautiful it was, how Jesus died for us. Even when I was that young I understood how incredible it was that Jesus would die for sinners like me. And how none of us deserved it. Now I’m 16 and it’s one of my favorite songs. I sang it for church last year and that was an incredible experience.

I’ve never heard another song capture the Crucifixion as well as this one does. The lyrics are so powerful and beautiful yet heartbreaking and tragic. This whole song is such a perfect mix of beauty and heartbreak. I haven’t heard that many songs like this one before. Most of the time when people sing about the crucifixion they are sing about for a few seconds and then move on to the Resurrection for the rest of this song. Which is absolutely ok! That’s what really sealed the deal and saved us. But there’s something so raw and real about this song. It delves into the heartbreak and tragedy of the Crucifixion as well as shows the beauty and awesomeness in it. It tells the story in such a tender, loving way. This song caused me to think for the first time in my life about how Jesus dying must’ve been so incredibly heartbreaking for God. Of course He knew that Jesus would rise again but seeing your Son living through such horrible things would have to be so sad. I also love that the ending is so triumphant. After singing this overall very sad song the part about Jesus being alive again is so full of excitement and joy. This song is just a moving, powerful, beautiful, emotional masterpiece
