In 2018 my 11-year-old son was collecting cards in modesty. He pulled a /50 Acuna RC auto from a Topps Update jumbo pack I bought him at an LCS, worth about $400 at the time. Unable to resist having some money to spend on buying more cards, we sold the card. It led to him becoming an adept collector/investor, but there was always a twinge of regret for having sold that Acuna. Fast forward a few years, and I won my home poker game, the prize of which was a seat in the WSOP Main Event. I ended up cashing in the tournament, making the money bubble with just one big blind bet left. I used part of the money to buy back that Acuna as a Christmas present for the boy. That card will NEVER be sold again.
Just wanted to say how much I appreciate you as a person. Your perspective and appreciation of the sport of baseball gives me so much joy. I can’t wait for you to be able to hold that orange cal Ripken in your hand. I wish I had it in mine, as I would immediately send it to you.
One of your greatest videos. I loved hearing other guys grail stories. I wish I had of these cards I would gladly give it to the guys who hadn't found there grail card. These days giving and helping some one really makes me happy and trumps my card collection.
I instantly recognized that picture of Rickey, my wife is from Navojoa and the ‘79 team is the stuff of legend, only 1 of 2 times Navojoa has ever been champion; it would be incredible to know the full story, I plan to find an old-time fan who remembers that team. Thanks for the memories and nostalgia 😀
Some cool “grail” cards featured. My favorite was going to be the Ripken Charlotte Os card until the end....the Cory Blackmon card with the Danville Braves. Danville is about 35 minutes from home. So glad he found his very own card!
What a great idea to give children middle names honoring Paige and Robinson. Paige's last card might have been 1953, but his last game was more than a decade later, pitching three scoreless innings at the age of 59.
I look forward to the day I finally get a 68 Ryan/Koosman, so I will be able to share a Holy Grail story. I do have a card in my collection that I treasures if it were my Grail Card. A 1990 ProCards Bernie Williams, signed by Bernie when he was a member of the AA team, Albany-Colonie Yankees. My family went to as many games as we could, which was pretty substantial from 1989-1992. I was probably at 2/3 or more of the home games in that span. And Bernie was always taking time to talk to the young fans. To the point that he would remember our names and call to us when he saw us there. One of many reasons why he is my favorite baseball player of all time. That particular card was signed on the last AA game of his I saw. So it holds a very special place in my collection. There really is something special about seeing a player in the minors and then being able to watch him grow into a borderline case for the Hall of Fame.
Cool Cards And Cool Stories!!! Growing up I was a Collector and Baseball fan but living in a small town there were no LCS’s remotely close to me. But my Grandfather used to take me to see the Greensboro Hornets/ Grasshoppers never would I have imagined I was watching D. Jeter play and how close I was to him sitting in the Box Seats behind the dugout! Close enough to get a auto but he wasn’t even heard of at that time at least not by me! But he came to be my favorite player and the one I collect the most along side of Judge! But like most of you I’m waiting on that Time Machine to go back to those days to get to see my Grandfather again and to get that auto I hope to one day have in my collection! To have had a memory like that would be amazing but I missed it because we were not wealthy people so it was hard to hear about players until they had already made it to the Big Leagues!! But I still have the memories of watching them play! I also never knew so many Great players played in NC! 😢
My grail card is the topps card that has an autograph and a patch that isn’t really there. Really it’s just a picture of another card on the card. Super cool!
I’d love a 5 min episode from PSA about “Pedigrees”. History, the process, who makes those calls, whether they add value (over identical cards without them), etc. Seems very mysterious.
These are my favorite videos amongst all the great videos that you make. Thank you very much!! I PC a lot of random things. I try to make sure that they're not too expensive, but one of my favorites is bartolo colon because both of us are big and sexy😂
My holy grail was being at a flee market back in 1991 and rummaging through a $1 box of discount/oddball cards and I saw a sheet white sheet about the size of notebook paper of 3 lombardi trophy pro set holograms uncut. That lombardi trophy hologram was a big deal back then. The card was really expensive back then so I definitely picked it up not knowing 100% what it was. 30 years later I still have it. Not sure what its worth or the full story behind those sheets. Ive seen them for sale at various prices from 25 to 1000 so who knows what it really worth - I wont sell it cuz its intrinsic memoryis priceless cuz it was a chance bargain buy no matter and I was justa kid 😅 I also knew what 'arbitrage' was before I knew the fancy word for it. This antique shop had 3 87 Donruss Maddux RRs for sale at $7 ea in a consignment case and then the new beckett came out and it went to 15. So we went back to the antique store and bought all of them before the seller could mark them up😂
Went to garage sale back about 1990. They had some old baseball wax packs. They were in a plastic bag. I paid $100.00 for them. One pack was a '52 topps hi number. No mantle in the pack but 5 nice hi # commons. The other packs ran from 1955 to 1963. They were fairly valuable back then but not the big $'s that they are now.
That is one young rickey. Love your show Chris just started watching u about 5 days ago on the recommendation of jmac. U have awesome content and your stories r super cool
Chris, another unique and great video, thank you. I was really hoping that you were going to reveal yourself as the new owner of the Cal minor league card at the end 😞
My holy grail. I wanted to put together a 1933 goudey set around 2010 but gave up because of the number of cards and the Lajoie card. So I put together a 33 sports king complete set ty Cobb a psa 4 Ruth a 2 but completed the set all psa and it is in the all time best psa collections of the set. For those collecting the hardest card to obtain is the babe. Not the Ruth the Didrickson. Mine was a psa 5.5.
Does the master set only include cards from years the player was active, either in the minors or majors? Or does it expand yearly with pretty much all the sets having base cards of retired players?
I personally don't like Lebron James, but he does have a St Vincent High School RC that came out before his NBA RC's. He was a TE for their football team and would have been drafted high in the NFL draft had he not went into the NBA. His card has him in a football uniform as a TE.
It’s a shame PSA used a “MK” qualifier on that beautiful 1953 Topps Satchel. I didn’t know they considered the real auto a “marked” card? That treats it more like a defect.
Chris, with regard to the Soto panini you mentioned a alternating bowman chrome super refractor from 2016? What is that? The 1st bowman chrome of Soto?
Well you guys got your comeback against my dubs! That still hurts! We had the best record of all time , but means little now But, They made up for it, still hurts though.
I can’t see how Cleveland fans can be down on themselves when they had the greatest NFL running back of all time playing for the Browns. The GOATJim Brown.
We’re definitely proud of that fact, he is one of the GOATs. However, that doesn’t really ease the pain that comes from the lack of winning out of the team since they came back in ‘99 and all the infamous moments that we have been on the wrong side of.
@@bobo44donemilking51 Barry Sanders was great. But nobody can touch Jim Brown. That's because he was so much better than every other RB in the game. Ryan Zimmerman card for $2500 seems a tad high. He is right about the seller asking too much. Perhaps contact the seller and put in an unsolicited Buy It Now offer?
Smart move by the guy reslabing that SOTO with TAG 👍🏻
This video really highlights the best of the hobby. Nice work as usual! Coffee with Chris!

Amazing story! I always say, usually once you sell an awesome card you never get it back, but you got it back!
Getting it back with the poker winnings is an awesome story.
Awesome story. 👍
This is great! Hope he keeps on collecting and selling. It’s what makes this all fun!

Agree with first story. Rickey was the man! The TRUE All-time walks leader.
Thanks for another great video Chris!

Absolutely love hearing these stories. The Ripken and Marty Cordova stories were my favorite. Keep em coming. 👍

Awesome video Chris, this is the stuff that keeps the hobby alive!
Love that Cordova story. He was my first autograph. Actually, the only autograph I ever got in person.
That Ricky Henderson looks like a Polaroid picture.
THANKS for the highlight and the video Chris!!!! Long live the Babe and RIP to my buddy Robbie!!!!❤
Love this idea for an episode. Great stuff!
I love this. This was great!
Awesome score on that Cal Ripken O’s card. I’m a lifelong Charlotte guy and am ALWAYS on the lookout for either one
great looking page 49 card.

WHAT BGS slab is so nice for the Gold on Gold color match!
It takes 1,713 cards to make the Henderson master set.The tougher ones appear to be the granny goose cards.A great player no doubt!

my grail car is a 69 Mantle first card i ever pulled from a pack ended up being used in the spokes of the bike, hoping someday to replace it

Wow! nice video, I just pulled a 1954 topps warren spahn and no kidding think it has the possibility to be the first psa 10.
JG, I'm seriously pulling for you to get a 10! Warren Spahn a favorite of mine because he was older than most when he made it to the Bigs
It’s a shame PSA used a “MK” qualifier on that beautiful 1953 Topps Satchel. I didn’t know they considered the real auto a “marked” card? That treats it more like a defect.

Jason, here’s a suggestion. Sell the Robinson and buy 2 lower grades. It’s unlikely you will find that Paige in a 5 for $600.
Got a lot of cards for sale, kin Griffey, cal Ripken and more
I have a Frank Thomas no name on front I pulled from wack pack? Don't know what to do has not been grated
2016 Game 7 when the Cavs actually won and Bron had The Block, that’s the most important, not Game 6.
But a fun card nonetheless
was going to give the video a like, but it's currently at 69. can't ruin that.
Got a lot of cards for sale, kin Griffey, cal Ripken and more 4:45

Marty Cordova, lol. Didn't he miss a game because he fell asleep in a tanning bed the day before or something?
First,isn't that great?
We have a winner!
