Looking for the Magic is actually a Phil Seymour song. Some other songs on the "Twilley Don't Mind" album are Phil's songs & he sings them but it's hard to notice him from Dwight as his style & voice is just like Dwight's. Tom had to come from somewhere. You ought to hear "Sleeping."

I am happy Donna went through that spell of recognition with Tom Petty. This was early 70's before Tom Petty became well known.

Good eye Donna!! Donna is correct. That was indeed Tom Petty miming playing bass for Dwight Twilley on this local kids show back in the mid-70's. Tom was still basically unknown at this point in time, and this was around the same time Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers had just recorded their first album. Both Tom and Dwight had been signed by producer Denny Cordell to his Tulsa, Oklahoma record company, Shelter Records. So, they were "label mates" and when Dwight was booked to lip-sync his latest single on this local kids show, they had Tom play the part of the bass player, partly because he actually did play bass in his previous band in Gainesville, Florida where he grew up. Yes, Dwight is singing the verses in that distinctive hiccup style, plus there's a bit of echo on his vocal that accentuates the effect. Sadly, he died last October at the age of 72 when he suffered a massive stroke while driving and crashed into a tree, dying in the hospital a few days later.
