hi mary , just came to mind you havent seen" airplane!". its a classic comedy voted one of the funniest movies ever . its better than " the naked gun" but same style comedy , slapstick
Fokker is German airplane maker and Gaylord is English version of German name Gaillard , but word gail has Celtic origin.,
Whole central Europe, England and Ireland were Celtic area before Romans , only areas with Celtic languages left are Wales , Scotland and Ireland .
Gaylord was more common boys name between 1850 - 1950 , as family name rare there were round 80 in NY pre civil war and thats 1/3 of all known Gaylord families.
You need to watch the sequel (Meet the Fockers) Probably funnier than the first film, in my humble opinion.
This may be the first person I've ever seen to empathize more with Jack than Greg 😂
That's the mentality of modern women today, that's why they're single
Cat people gotta stick together.
Nah, modern women would rather just stay single. There’s a reason that about 90% of the people using Tinder are men.
Justice for mr. Jinx
@@MaryCherryOfficial As soon as Greg said he hated cats it was game over 😆
Pam is the real villain of this movie, she set up Greg from the start. She could have TRIED to prepare him for her insane family
This. I can't stand how oblivious she is to how awkward all this is for him. Granted, he's a discombobulated mess, but that's his shtick. But by the end of the movie I was rooting for him to get out while he can. Still hilarious, though.
He should have realised his Girlfriend is Slightly "JUST PLAIN NUTS"!
I've felt this way for so long. She never prepped him for ANYTHING. Including her ex, her brother, none of it. It would have took more than her dad showing up to change my mind
But then she would have broken "the circle of trust." You can't just go around telling people that your dad is/was a CIA operative... not if you want him to not get assassinated.
Plus her siding with Kevin in the pool, "Greg is afraid of the ball!".
Mary identifying more with DeNiro's character than Stiller's character is a huge 🚩. 😂
Definitely.
This fits the expression of "if you let someone talk long enough..." 😮😂
@@ncored21 Definitely
Are we gonna act as if Greg is not a weirdo?
@@vicentegeonix He's not a weirdo he's just a goof.
Mary being so salty over Greg not liking cats. 😂
I’ll never get over it 😂😂
Yeah that's always annoyed me😂
Cats are the Devil’s work.
That's how you know Greg is in the right
@@MaryCherryOfficial - You should, if you really mean it. There are far more important things to enjoy with a partner in terms of being complimentary.
The girlfriend is nuts. She is not worth all that trouble. 😂
Mary has some serious high standards for engagement rings 😂😂
dont forget Pam is the worst girlfriend ever,, threw Greg under the bus every step along the way, she screwed him over from the very start of the visit
They are both imperfect.
But Pam is horrid.
The first person I've ever heard of that didn't like greg but liked her father. 😂
She has very complex daddy issues..
I'm the biggest cat lover in the world, but still can't for the life of me figure out how anyone would hate Greg over Pam's dad (and family). Idk, maybe because I've had to deal with my share of upper crust snobs in my extended family, but that family makes my blood boil.
I've never known anyone to dislike Greg; Clearly his behaviour is a result of being under a huge amount of pressure.
YES. Thank You.
Yes apparently this went over her head.
I've never known anyone to watch this film and not sympathise with Greg. It's certainly a different take.
I know! I loved it!!!
Male nurse here…yes I get called Dr. every day. No I wouldn’t switch. I make more than any mid level which now requires a doctorate degree and I only have a 2 year degree. Not to mention the extra hours, the more responsibility, medical malpractice issues etc etc. totally not worth it for thousands more in debt and to take a pay cut. Also mid levels also have almost zero hands on. No codes, no traumas, no IV’s, caths, nothing but stitches. On top of all that an MD takes even longer and WAYYYYY more in debt and you don’t see a real paycheck for about 12 years. I’m good.
Mary: not liking cats is a red flag also mary: completely shits on dogs
Chick being a cat person is a red flag. Chick being too much of a dog person is also a red flag. Chicks in general are red flags.
Mary is super judgemental. Greg is a cool, just a little doofy
Actually he's a fictional character, serving the plot, and setting up the comedy! 😄
He's just not her type of guy, that's all.
He’s a beta male and that’s not her type.
@@Wolf1354 ..have you seen her boyfriend?
Pem repeatedly did Greg so dirty during this movie. I recommend the sequel for sure
Absolutely. I didn't realize until I watched as an adult how awful she is in this film.
Same lol
She didnt mean to. I get it. She goes home and gets into a certain mindset and Greg is going around acting crazy and spray painting cats.
Robert deniro saying "I have nipples Greg, can you milk me?" And Ben stiller hand gesturing milking a cat cracks me up every time, even thinking about it makes me laugh out loud 😂
That's my favorite line of the movie.
It comes back in the next movie.
It can be awkward meeting parents for the first time. Usually, that goes away after introductions, but Jack never gave Gaylord a chance to be comfortable. That discomfort, and the need to make a good impression for Pam, made things way more awkward that they had to be. Greg wasn't jusy being cringe (I know he was at times), but the family was being just as cringe to him and never really gave him a chance. She loves the guy and they rejected him from jump.
Just because you are a dog-person doesnt mean you hate cats or even dislike them!!! You can like Cats and still be more of a Dog-Person. Greg never hated Cats, but Jack did a good job of convincing you he does just by using default logic.
Weird Mary so against Greg when he was doing the best he can to get pam parents approval while they constantly disrespect Greg. If anything Greg can do better pam was trash as hell not sticking up for her boyfriend until the end of the movie. still enjoy you're reactions though
Mary still hating on Greg for not liking cats 😂
He’s perpetuating cat hate!!!
@@MaryCherryOfficial purr-petuating.
@@MaryCherryOfficialAnd that's your right. I'm a dog person myself. I have nothing against cat people. We're all different.
"Cats make you work for their affection."
And they'll give it to the first other person who opens a can of tuna.
The same with dogs 😂 I've seen it happen
@@sensaiuriah5440 True, but dogs can be trained to refuse food from anyone but their owner.
Try that with a cat.
I think Pam was largely to blame for Greg's unraveling. She lied to him about Jacks job, she never prepared him for her ex being the best man (and was using their nicknames from when they were dating instead of setting boundaries), and everytime the family acted iike absolute jerks about Greg being a nurse and not a doctor all she did was say he took the MCATs instead of just saving to respect his career and stop putting him down. Yeah, Greg also did dumb things but her lack of support and withholding information made even the good things worse and unraveled him into more of a doof.
In short, everyone could’ve handled the situation better but didn’t.
Not "The septic tank is almost full, so you can't use the toilet," but rather implying that the toilet has mechanical difficulties when flushing.
Yeah, Greg was set up by everyone, and he doubles down in low IQ when he doesn't take the opportunity to run for his life.
all the toilets should be draining to the same tank, so a trickle from one for a day isn't going to be as much as a normal day's worth of 4 people flushing the other toilets.
@@sterlinggecko3269 That's what _I_ thought. He became the family's scapegoat and punching bag.
@@sterlinggecko3269 The mechanical failure was that the toilet never stopped running. So because of that i kept draining into the septic tank all night and caused it to overflow
Yeah, wouldn't flushing any other toilet have the same result?
I don’t understand why they didn’t just turn water flow to the toilet off - then you don’t have to worry about any accidental flushes.
Ive never seen someone agree with the Dad before in this Movie 😂
Nah fr sad as hell
Yeah... when she said she hated Greg... that was a first for me. Can't believe Mary is victim blaming! 🤣
I love how Greg is supposed to be the sympathetic lead, but Mary just hates him. 😂😂😂
He hates cats, I’ll hate him then😂😂
@@MaryCherryOfficial but he and Jinx become friends in the end
" his parents didn't love him" this ain't gonna age well
Movie trivia: The studio wouldnt let them name the 2nd movie that, unless they found someone with that last name. Well they found some one with that last name
Oh !!!
That surname was a huge manufacturer of aircraft in World War 1 Germany, it wasn't just an invention for the film. They were the period equivalent of Boeing.
@@theaikidokaAgreed, yet it was spelled FOKKER (it's in dutch if I'm not mistaken)
Stiller is good at playing a hapless screw up. But Pam didn’t prepare the way very well. But there is something about Mary 😂😂😂
I love my cat and all, but they're all (including mine) evil demons.
"If it's yellow, let it mellow..." Dustin Hoffman
Shhh spoilers. ;)
I have a sign above my toilet that says "If it's yellow, flush it down. Leave it mellow, if it's brown"
@@hotsIaw a bit backwards, that is.
...if it's brown, flush it down.
@@greenpeasuitNot really, it's a common saying.
7:38 Younger generations don't realize that until very recently, it wasn't normal to be recorded everywhere you go. Maybe your dad will bust out the giant camcorder while you're on vacation, but that's about it.
Someone who constantly refers to a nice person as cringe, and prefers cats to dogs 😬 Red flag fellas 🏃
Hahahaha. My thoughts exactly
The mom running full speed, fully clothed into he pool during the volleyball scene gets me every time 😂🤣
"he can't even meow right" is such a red flag😂
"He can't even meow right." LOL.
That had me in stitches - us cat folk really are uptight 🤣
I love your reactions, Mary. However, I did find it a bit odd the fact that there wasn’t any sympathy for Greg. Yes, he made some questionable decisions, but he was basically walking into a minefield completely unarmed. The average person would’ve done about the same in this situation. I’VE been in this situation with an ex of mine and her family and I’m still healing the scars from it. These situations are so tough if not properly prepared and supported by your significant other. Furthermore, her family didn’t make it any easier on him to feel comfortable. Greg certainly isn’t a perfect person, but he certainly isn’t a bad one. He blurred the truth at times to try to make a good impression because he feared the truth would be even worse. And that’s BECAUSE of the deep water he was put into by both Pam’s family and Pam herself. There were multiple times where Pam could’ve supported him better to put him at ease.
With that being said, keep up the good work. I adore your channel ❤
This became one of my favorite comedies of the new millennium. It only took Ben Stiller's "mew mew mew :3" to seal the deal.
I don’t even think Mary believes what she said about Greg not being good enough for Pam.
It was my hate for him hating cats that said that 😂
Well, to be fair, he's not! Not in the real world!
@@TTM9691 no one in this film is fit to be with anyone in the real world.
@@crinbob True!
Mary you to rude with the poor Greg 😂😂😂
11:46 he's saying the lyrics to a song from the 1970's called 'Day By Day' from the musical 'Godspell'
Fun fact: cats will begin eating your face/corpse mere hours after you die near them.
Jack’s wife was played by Gwyneth Paltrow’s mother.
Catwoman with Halle Berry might be for you.
That's just mean, lol.
not cool
Purrrfect comment 🤗
19:01 "she's so nice". lolol You've got to be kidding me?!?
"The Heartbreak Kid" (2007) is a comedy film. The main actors include Ben Stiller, Malin Åkerman, Michelle Monaghan, Jerry Stiller, Rob Corddry, Carlos Mencia, and Danny McBride.
Love that movie! So funny
Seen the original?
@@bmactattoo1219that’s considered one of the weakest Farrelly bros movies
I recommend the movie "The Wedding Crashers".
Yes, Wedding Crashers… that was an entertaining comedy
For Robert De Niro’s character being so smart and a human lie detector, how does he not know his son is a stoner
Probably denial
I'd say Jack probably was so busy looking after his daughters that he pretty much negtected his son and didn't care about him that much.
🚩for sure lol.
Nice fit though 😉
FYI…the mom in this movie is Gwyneth Paltrow’s mother in real life.
No! I see it, but I never would have thought that! Was she an actress before Gwyneth Paltrow became famous?
@@neil2444 yes…she was kind of big in the 70s
Poor Greglord... Mary hated him.
Green became my favorite color because of this movie.
Having a family seems so stressful sometimes but im so glad that im hated by enough of humanity to never have the opportunity 😂
There is a very famous baseball player named Gaylord Perry
Hall of Famer!
Still shocked that it’s a name
The cat literally pissed on his mother's ashes.
Never saw anyone on Jack's side before! Interesting take.
Very interesting don't understand it at all
Justice for mr. Jinx
@@jermainejohnson1657that’s not to understand ? Greg was cringe as hell and although jack went overboard in being overprotective of his daughter he had a charm about him.
@@Jackholiday1025 I fail to see Jack's "charm." He's not just a little overprotective, he's a selfish, manipulative, controlling psychopath who can't let go of the reigns of his adult children's lives. That is so much the case that even Pam felt the need to lie to him about her relationship and she wrangled Greg into backing her up last minute. The whole family walked on eggshells around Jack, always wary of doing or saying anything that might anger him or meet his disapproval.
That's not love, it's abuse.
if i was jack i'd adopt imposter jinx 😂
I’ve talked to people who’ve hated their first names and they don’t change it because they’re scared it will hurt their parents feelings. So they just go by a nickname or sometimes even their middle name.
There are 3 parts in this series Mary. Meet the Parents, Meet the Fockers and Little Fockers
Little Fockers is definitely the weakest of the trilogy, but still worth watching at least once!
@@badcow2 Personally I thought Meet the Fockers had the most low hanging fruit jokes throughout that it was cringe to watch. With Little it was kind of nice for Greg to be obvious good guy for once for everyone to see.
The sequel to this, Meet the Fockers, is pretty good as well. They go to meet Greg's parents in that case, who are played by Barbra Striesand and Dustin Hoffman.
Mary, if you watch the next one and find the DeNiro/Hoffman dynamic funny, please please watch them in “Wag The Dog (1997)”. You’ll love it.
I love how De Niro, right from the start, just says the name Greg.
This is exactly why I love Ben Sillers movies, they are so funny and he adds such a unique presence to comedy. Pure Diamond
Sorry, but there’s nothing special about Ben Stiller. Would you mind being more specific, what is so special about him?
Along Came Polly is also a great Stiller comedy.
Disagree, I never saw Along Came Polly because Ben Stiller is terrible. His only semi decent movie was There’s Something About Mary and I’m actually being generous when I say that. The only reason he became famous was because of his parents
I think Meet the Fockers is even better than this one...please consider reacting to it
Meet the Fockers is great!
"She can do better"???????? Who do you need? I think you should marry a CIA agent or a cop.
"Mr. Winky?? C'mon, who says that??" lol
Ben Stiller is a master of comedy
Dude! That is the most offensive thing I’ve ever heard. Ben Stiller is NOT the master of comedy in anyway, shape or form. Not even close.
Stiller is one of the most unfunny actors in Hollywood. The only reason he became famous was because of his parents
@@nsasupporter7557 Meet The Parents, its sequel, Zoolander, The Royal Tenenbaums, Along Came Polly, Starsky and Hutch, DodgeBall, The Heartbreak Kid, Tropic Thunder... Where have you been? Watching Adam Sanddler's Jack and Jill comedy-type movies?
yes, it was rare to even think about needing a nanny cam back in the day.
we used to be a high trust society.
"Well, it was an ugly ring,, so he just return it." LOL!
"It WAS an ugly ring. Just return it." LMFAOOOO 😭
there are TWO sequels, Meet the Fockers and Little Fockers
Robert in bad grandpa is golden
40:32 mew 1 - verb
(of a cat or some kinds of bird) make a characteristic high-pitched crying noise.
"a throng of cats and kittens mewing to be fed"
I love old school movies's awkwardness 😂 but this movie is on another level
I have to disagree on the cat and dog thing, if a dog doesn't view you as family or friend it won't do what you say, but if it does it will do literally anything for you.
The cat won't do what you say even if you are it's mother. (the cat despises you)
I have to say I like both dogs and cats as pets
I'm a cat person too. I do love dogs, and own all kinds of weird pets, tree frogs, geckos, chameleons...but Cats are my favorite!
Fun fact: when Greg said grace, he was quoting popular Christian hip-hop/rock band DC Talk. By the way, there is a third movie - Little Fockers. It came out in 2010 - I believe it's on Netflix.
This is one of the best movies!
I can't believe we are only 1 year away from this being a quarter of a century old.
You have to watch the sequel Meet The Fockers with Dustin Hoffman
Jack was a complete prick, especially what he said about dogs.
If I would feel that unwelcome, I would have left
Ben Stiller and Robert DeNiro play so well off one another. So glad you watched this one.
5:22 Over here in The Netherlands (Europe) uptil not long ago there was a aircraft manufacturer, who sold many of his aircraft worldwide. This company was named Fokker. Their aircraft were quite popular. One of the directors told that at times it was difficult for many people around to keep a straight face when his company was anounced.
Prepare yourself for two hours of awkwardness. 😂
Now that you watched Meet the Parents, you have to watch Meet the Fockers, then lastly the Little Fockers.
45:50 - I imagine it's a lot harder to get a cat to do what you want on camera than a dog. Especially if there are a lot of strangers on set.
Good cat person representation: Batman Returns (1992).
You would probably love Stephen King's "Cat's Eye (1985)."
De Niro actually done lke a few good comedies
MIDNIGHT RUN is another ROBERT DENIRO comedy w/CHARLES GRODIN they are extremely funny together
At least dogs will put themselves in danger without a second thought to defend the family.
Dogs also kill around 50 people a year in the US.
@@Wolf1354 And attack me when I was a kid for no reason.
The whole meets the parents trilogy is hysterical.
If you’re a fan of Tom Cruise or Nicole Kidman, there’s a movie they made together when they were in their early 20’s call “Far and Away.” Beautiful Love Story ❤️
Not sure if anyone has said this, but the prayer Ben does is from the musical "Godspell". lol.
If you like Ben Stiller in awkward comedies, you might like
The Heartbreak Kid.
I've never seen any reactor take Jack's side before!
OK, now time to react to _Meet the Fockers,_ starring Barbra Streisand & Dustin Hoffman.
In the US, there is a comedian named Gailard Sartain. He is best known for being on the tv show Hee Haw and the Ernest movies.
Honestly, Pam being so oblivious to the awkwardness that was going on between Greg and her family would have been a massive red flag for me.
Watching reactors laugh is the best!! Go Mary~!
