Just make the game characters a modified bean
And, just come out with how the game works
You will get a popular game that will die quickly

2 methods that work for me are:
1) Think of something that is important to you, like something you like doing, or a really good quote or lyric... how would you turn that into a game?
"Everyone is a genius but if you judge a fish by it's ability to climb a tree it will go through life believing it is stupid" turned into a mobile game where you controlled a fish trying to climb a tree by bouncing from one branch to the next.
2) Just start with something really generic. Either follow some tutorials to learn something new, or pick a genre and just start on the basics... You'll learn something and tighten your skills, and more often than not you'll have a Eureka moment on that one mechanic or idea that's going to make it totally stand out from the pack... and if not, well not everything has to be original if you at least do it well.

I have a lot of new ideas that I put into five different books. My newest one will be finished tomorrow, "All New Video Game Ideas," Like all of my books it'll be in public domain. I have always wanted to make games but never was able to learn how to program. But good new ideas are just as valuable.

i tried out orteil before, and i found out it had a “sanity” checkbox. the results can be anywhere from absolutely hilarious to the level of sus where FBI avoids your house. yeah.

I have so many ideas pop in my head that, in order to stop myself from jumping off to another project before finishing the one I'm working on, I have to write the idea down in my giant book and lie to myself that "I'll get to that idea one day".

Bro an awesome game would be an Ancient Astronaut game! You start off as a human way back in the day and you're visited by ancient aliens that teach you things to further civilization. You build pyramids for them and stuff and you gain ufo access and other technology. The game starts off with nothing but you and the dirt but it ends up with you having worked with aliens and advanced technology. I want this game so bad. Like just hire an indie team that's seen every episode of ancient aliens lol

I have a game idea but that idea has some games and movies things. It has some matrix things (downloading things to brain like a computer, retro area in a computer ext.) and it has gravity gun and portal gun. You are even a test subject when you start game and you solve puzzles but this doesn't last long. You are trying to escape but not with portal gun by solving puzzles. Instead of solving puzzles to escape, you are fighting and shooting to guards to escape. You are using portal gun to fight, not solving puzzles. Like you are in a cover, you can't go out cause someone is shooting you with negev, you can open a portal behind that guard and open another portal to where he is shooting. Or instead of that you can open a portal to the roof, and 1 portal to right next to you in surface, and throw grenade.
I am asking this, i want to make a game with this idea but can it cause problems because it has matrix, portal and half life things. If not, then i will develop this game, i just want you to answer my question, i am not giving you a game idea.
just using the tips here i found an idea, the hockey game you put on the scnree, that, but you can reversse time, and place blocks, bombs, ECT , to prevent something from happening a couple seconds in the future

I am completely new to c# and unity ( btw I had learn somewhat basics of c# and unity ad I already know JAVA so it wasn't difficult for me to understand c# ). So can you guide me that from where should I learn and how should I go further.

I would rather need a roadmap for learning gamedev engines or frameworks ;-)

Make a story game where you get to pick between 4 characters (you also get to name the character before you create a new save]
[Prologue part 1]
-The protagonist finds an abandoned lab with a giant machine, like all cliche fiction, he activates the machine which teleports him to the Roman era where he finds clothes and a basic weapon.
[Prologue part 2]
-The protagonist has the choice to do good decisions or bad decisions for the first mission (this will effect the players experience with NPCs later on)
[First mission]
-The first mission involves robbing a base full of outlaws, upon completion, guards will start chasing and attacking you until you kill all of them or escape/hide. Killing them will decrease your reputation and Honour but if you hide/escape, you get weapons, armour, gold and your reputation increases. (This will affect the player later on)
[Chapter 1]
-The protagonist finds a Man named Augustus who asks for you to hunt down a specific man and rob his family (if no, you gain reputation but earn no money, if you accept, you will get a special mission and your reputation decreases and if you kill Augustus, your reputation increases and you gain clues to his home which you can eventually rob for lots of gold and armour) Chapter 1 also contains multiple other missions as well as the second main mission which allows you to advance to chapter 2.
[Second Mission]
-You are tasked with robbing catacombs for a secret key which can unlock a cage where you save Octavius and Alba, a small group of accused robbers who were left with food and water, they both will tell you the location of the real robber, Aellius who has robbed many people. Upon finding and stabbing him multiple times and robbing him, you return to the main city and get lots of gold for the mission.
[Chapter 2]
-Guards find you and you are put into a dungeon where you have to fight, survive and explore to reach first boss, Goliath Lion, which is a giant lion with a wagon at the back which a large armoured man (who will eventually be a boss later in the game) upon killing the lion, you get the Special 4 star lion meat and 3 star lion fur, which can be sold for a lot)
[Chapter 3]
-You , Octavius and Alba head out to recruit new members to join you and you goal to either restore and protect the country, or to kill the emperor and take the country yourself. You later find a man named Julius (who will eventually betray the group later on)
[Third Mission]
-You leave to hunt more Goliath lions where you find a small house holding a group of outlaw, upon killing most of them, one surrenders and confesses he was a spy for the empire. You rob the house and kidnap the spy and return to Octavius' house where the spy, Marcus, joins your group.
[Chapter 4]
-The house is raided by the red flag, the main group of bandits (the same you robbed and killed a bunch of) and Marcus is beheaded and his head on a pike. The rest of the group is taking into the red flag's dungeon where they are tortured until you find a way to escape, you find your original weapons, free the rest of the group and leave and kill (and rob) the outlaws brutally.
[Chapter 5](Honourable timeline)
-The state here's about you clearing out the outlaws and welcomes you a small visit to the palace where you get the option to raid the palace with the group or go alone and keep still through the visit.
[Chapter 5 (Dishonourable timeline)
-The state does not welcome you but tasks you with clearing out higher level outlaw hideouts. Where you meet a new boss, the leader of the red flag, who deems himself Mars himself. Upon killing him, you get a special weapon (Mars' Spear) which does high amounts of damage and return to the player upon being thrown unlike other spears, it also will release a large amount of energy, shocking nearby enemies upon a critical hit. and Mars' armour set, which has unlimited durability and high resistance to attacks and an above moderate health increase. (Overall the set is worth the bad ending) and the ripped red flag banner (which is a 3 star banner and increases Damage and blocking resistance while being used (none that banners do not use up durability) you also gain a new anomalous genetic which allows you to enter an enraged state when in combat (this saves between saves and levels up each time Mars is defeated.
[Chapter 5 Honourable Timeline (bad ending)
-You enter a boss battle with the emperor and upon killing the emperor, Aellius, who is surprisingly still alive and some outlaws kill the protagonist which gives you the bad ending for the honour timeline
[Free Roam]
-Free roam can be unlocked if you do not raid the palace during the honourable timeline or if Mars is killed during the Dishonourable timeline
Free roam allows access to the good ending as well as other side quests to reduce or increase reputation and/or gold.
upon finding the final hideout, depending on the honour level (reputation) Aellius will either beat you up and leave you for dead (dishonourable bad ending) or you end up killing him first and you live life in the Roman era and gain the honourable good ending.
[Potential DLC]
-Winter dlc (complete New story and clothing for the player) (on discount in winter)
-Horrors of the East DLC (New zombie related story and clothing for the player) (on discount on Halloween)
-Ultimate Edition (Special missions and 1500 free gold coins for story mode and online mode)
-Online Mode (comes with game but is downloaded separately)
[Game title: Gladius (feel free to change this if you adopt this idea)]

Fantastic video, but as a musician coming into game dev with in the jar few months, and for creativity I would say these are all great tips but sometimes you really just need to take a few days and not think about it to recharge and come back with ideas. Enjoy your life, play games, do stuff you like. It really is my biggest suggestion for feeling actually inspired instead of forcing it

I Have hundreds of game ideas and i have one with like 12 pages with just explaining the game, i have good Imagination and sometimes i spend Hours writing a game and balancing a set of rules to the point where i could tell a bad game design by heart.
the sad part is i am not a skilled game creator, i Can program Java, c# and c++ and Javascript But my knowledge with game engines are really thin.

Anybody need an idea for a game? Take it for free idc. 5 man mission all surrounded by a different profession of a special unit working to neutralize abnormal threats. Within those professions you have class build and depending on pair between profession and class you get a buff. For example: a first person shooter of a 5 man team consisting of; 1 assault class, 1 medic class, 1 tracking class, 1 scouting class, and 1 defensive class with their professions being; 2 quarantine control prof, 1 analyst prof, and 3 military prof. They will be either working together to defend, protect, extract or eliminate all threats of either demons, aliens, zombies, or even regular human insurgents. The map is a decent size with a small home base allowing for them to catch a breath by setting traps on doors, stairs, closing windows and vents, and setting up cameras and proximity distractions, while only allowing a certain amount of medical kits and ammo to be replenished from their supply crates. So a Medic class with a quarantine control profession will have a buff of (slightly faster healing, once healing is completed, healed players will gain back 20hp) or an Assault class with a Quarantine profession will get a buff of (healer and player being healed will temporarily gain +1shield during healing and healed players will gain +1 magazine for both weapons). If anybody is interested the idea is free and I have more to throw in so feel free to comment questions!
So what can I do if I've already came up with a game idea and don't have the knowledge to actually make the game I came up with this game 2 yrs ago and have no idea how to even start it or have it made I truly believe the game I came up with would attract alot of attention

I had two dreams one about a game where you play as a hero in the game your quest is to kill the dragon and on your adventure you will have three modes
Easy prehard hard mode everytime you kill one of the three boss
With each of these mode changing the biomes like fire watermelon forest or lemon flytrap swamp and some biomes will change due to the mode it is in like making it so it will get harder and harder to survive but you can get op weapons and buff from these biomes and at the end you kill the dragon only to learn that the rea, dragon was the old woman in the town that was bullied for no reason and depending on your interactions with her will decide if you die or live and get the final ability dragon race
Second dream was about the biomes
And yes this would be a dark souls like game

I used the game idea creators and got a theme to reach the bottom of the ocean and not be seen by ocean apex predators.
It's all well and good, but what if you get the idea from reddit or a bad game, manages to be sucessful and gets accused of plagiarism or some other thing like that?
game ideas are copied all the time, and it's actually how many genres are formed. At one point there was no such thing as a "First Person Shooter"... only "Doom Clone". And it's true when they say that game ideas are a dime a dozen. An Idea without implementation is worthless. An idea with terrible implementation is not much better... so take that idea, and give it the implementation it truly deserves.

I just want to say that I am a huge fan of yours. I have always enjoy your hard work. Making certain Legos popular over the years. From Lego Indiana Jones to Lego Star Wars and I cannot forget Lego Batman. You guys have made Lego so much fun over the years. I never seen kids having so much fun with Legos. Plus nowadays is not just kids most adults are playing with Legos to. I usually see people doing Lego Minecraft. Posting on their Instagram. it's so funny. Although what really got me going was when you made Lego Mario. It was so cute how you make a Lego form. I was so shocked when I saw him that way. For his anniversary giveaway. Now he's more popular than ever thanks to you guys. Now I know I'm Just a Nobody. And I probably don't know what hot these days. But I'm just going to throw it all out. Have you guys ever thought about doing a Lego James Bond OO7? I'm just saying. Think about the past Lego game from Indiana Jones he was a popular movie icon. You could replay all of his missions from certain movies? Why not do the same thing? If you were going to make Lego James Bond OO7? That is my idea. I am willing to hear any type of a response.

Today in my Dream 3 July.. I thought of thid idea of a game. Id a flying game. So this person is the one whos ot and will capture many people as he can tie up.. *Then thought about Once he capture a person brings them back to the start and if he gets their they loose and captured.. but thr time he gets their people have better chance to getting to the end.. but thats what my dream was like..* so If they tie up. The other people Can save them utie them. *it was ment to be a race.. but what if it be like first person to cross wins. Or who saves the most people win. Or who makes it TO THE END* So mabye like ge can throw a rope at you. You can try make it lit go. But few seconds later mabye he can *Jump on you*-.... *and maybe add every person you save you get points for*.... *and also be things you need to fly into... so it can make you crash. and help the bad guy cature you*... Sound like a fun game?

@@midnight.symphony128 I won't know where start. I have an Idea for a Legend of Zelda type game based upon Welsh and Arthurian mythology. An area shooter, a tactical turn based game like xcom with demons instead of aliens and an RTS similar to Command & Conqueror Generals 2.
If I had the skills and a team I would go for the LoZ clone or just start on something small and basic.

Regarding video game idea, I am used to saying that the value is not in the idea but in its realization, so I like the fact that, in this video, you speak about the constraint as a way to help the designer, even if it sounds counterintuitive. Regarding old game inspiration, I've published a game which have been inspired by games like Pac Man, so I completly agree with you !
