KC played like they played all season, you're complaining about the great players you have, Purdy played great. Spags had your number, and 15 doesn't want to lose ever. He never gives up, face it he won the game, sometimes it takes a few quarters for him to analyze the game but then he has the solution. Greenlaw getting injured definitely sucked for you guys. Let’s look at the injuries for the Chiefs, all starters - Charles Omenihu, starting defensive tackle, Joe Thuney, arguably the best left guard in the NFL, Derek Nadi, starting nose tackle and Bryan Cook, starting safety. But you probably didn’t know about any of them. All inactive. Why is it that one 49ers defender is the reason the Chiefs made plays when he went down? And if you were the head coach, where would you attack offensively? It HAS to be next man up. The 49ers’ lack of depth showed. Andy Reid and the Chiefs play chess, while Kyle and his staff plays checkers.

On the 49'ers drive in OT with 2nd and 12 from the Chiefs 28 the pass to Kyle Juszczyk he dove, caught the ball, his right foot hits, then his left and when he hits the ground the ball comes out, I don't care he reached the ball out while in the dive, by NFL rules the receiver MUST maintain possession of the ball THROUGH contact with the ground, the call should have been an incomplete pass, 49'ers ball at the 28, 3rd and 12

those calls are set in stone, not judgement calls(like holding) which BTW one of those PFF type analysts looked at every play in the SB and said there were some missed "holding" calls, the majority of them were by the 49'ers.
The Chiefs defensive line, whether you like it our not was a LOT better this season than the 49'ers, The Chiefs were 2nd in the entire NFL in QB sacks(behind only the Ravens, not the 49'ers) and if I recall correctly, #1 in QB pressures.

As somebody that hates the patriots and blames Kyle for one of the worst nights I've ever had I love seeing that man suffer. He is the poster boy for when smart men go stupid under pressure and that guy is your coach.

They blew it. So many little things ruined the game. It wasn't any one thing. It's crazy cause the chiefs basically won the game off 2 events, the muffed fumble and the final drive. Their offense was inept the whole games besides those 2 moments and that's all it took. You should never lose a game where the opposing does 2 things and wins after playing so shitty. Just absolutely heart breaking. And you just knew the whole game that that was somehow gonna happen.

I was hoping the Chiefs didn’t make it to SB. When they did I told my wife it’s over. Let’s face it, KC is working on their dynasty like we were back in the 80’s. They’ll win at least 2 more so we have our work cut out for us.

Chiefs fan here. This was a heavywight game. The 9ers played a good game but not a great game and that's what was needed. There were SB jitters and they needed a perfect game to beat KC. KC made enough Mahomes plays to make up for their mistakes.

Honest intelligent insight on the game. Not a Chief or Niner fan just an NFL fan but when I look back at the last 2 Super Bowl meetings between the two teams I just think Debo Kittle etc have come up small and yeah they are banged up or not 100% but they always seem to be hurt. Lastly you can't cry about supposed missed holding calls . Niner fans did the same thing last time nobody cares and nobody will remember that.

Chiefs had a plan and knew what to do during overtime. They prepared and the 49ers on the mic said they didn't know the rules even tho the refs said it fast. Regardless, that lack of prep thinking this situation would come up was a killer. They knew what to do and did it. Game over. Just a lack of prep and to have kyle sack the DC is a damn shame...
Idk how the team can bounce back from this loss. Greenlaw will be out next season, players are getting older, they lost to the Chiefs twice in SB being up by 10. When they first lost in SB they were young, driven and motivated to get back. I feel like they’re now losing hope, especially the older players.
Yeah, it’s time to trade everyone and rebuild. Take the 4/5 seasons to build an OL, DL and DB’s + Mahomes athletic decline. How are any players in the locker room supposed to respect Kyle after this loss? The play calling on offense was completely compromised

Lifelong Chiefs fan here. I take no joy in your pain. And I KNOW it hurts. In my opinion, KC won this game by keeping it close in the first half, which the Niners were dominant. Yard and first downs just didn't turn into points. Spags pressure in the 2nd half and the Niners D getting gassed late were key. Like most close games, there are just a few key plays that tell the story. Purdy was playing solid football beyond his years. He was poised and it never felt like he was playing his 1st SB. He's a keeper. Regulation ended in a tie. Fitting for such a high level defensive game. Lots of folk talking about it being boring until the 4th. I disagree. The defenses were playing great football. It was a nail biter all the way.
Niners fans are great too. Classy and intelligent for the most part. Thanks for posting this. Pretty darn good analysis, especially so quickly after the game. Stay healthy and hang in there.

I knew you'd get around to the officiating eventually. Multiple late hits on PM, and late in the game, several terrible spots by the ref denying the Chiefs a first down. If anything ,the refs tried to help the Niners, but the Niners were determined to lose.

How long is everyone gonna let Kyle get away with bad play calls? Literally, he is a choke artist and it’s not debatable. Guess what if this is Kyle’s offense they will need a QB who can overcome his bad play calling. It’s time to rebuild and trade everyone. This regime is not beating a Peak Mahomes and Andy Reid. Why delay it? Everyone can see this team is nowhere good enough to compete with Mahomes. Take 4-5 years to build a real OL, DL and DB’s and Mahomes to decline.
It wasn't the play calling. It's was the missed xp, McCaffrey's fumble and the turnover on the punt. That was at least 11 points if nit 15 points given away

He should have called some play for McCaffrey. I wondered why Kittle was a no show. After the game. I heard he was playing hurt. I wanted 49ers to lose. I told everyone. If McCaffrey and Kittle have a good game. 49ers win easily. Kittle had 2 catches for 4 yards. I looked at him when he was on the field. He wasn't getting open. How true is that he played hurt. I don't know. Because I heard that from a 49ers fan youtube video after the game. I tried to look it up on line. I couldn't find anything. That means the Chiefs did a good job on him. Besides the critical fumble. McCaffrey led 49ers in receiving and rushing yards. He is the reason why 49ers made it to the SB and possibly even the playoffs. He gets so much attention that the game opens up for players like Kittle and Deebo on screen plays. You have to give Chiefs defense some credit. They did a pretty good job.
Edit: besides the two possessions I mentioned. The worse decision Kyle made has nothing to do with play calling. It was when he decided to receive the ball first during OT. I haven't heard people talk about that. But I was surprised when he didn't decide to kick the ball to KC to start OT

I’d venture to say this game came down to the better special team unit, and that was clearly the Chiefs.
Can’t put the ball in the ground in the opening drive in the red zone, muff a punt, miss and extra point, not capitalize on the Mahomes Int. and expect to win a game you basically dominated.

2) Go to Steve Wilks and ask him to coach db's under Belichick for 1 year.
Perfect scenario 49ers win the Super Bowl next year. Belichick gets a new head coach job he wants. Wilks steps in and leads the defense after a year of tutelage by Belichick.
A lot of ego's would have to work together, but they have to fix that defense now without Greenlaw for a year. Belichick can also help special teams.
Shanahan can then give full attention to offense.

None of the oline had SB experience and it showed (RT RG PURE GARBAGE, PURDY COVER THOSE ISSUES ALL SEASON AND IT FINALLY CAUGHT UP TO THEM IN THE SB), game over.

If Purdy had not been injured in the 2022 NFC Championship Game the 49ers might have defeated the Eagles and we'd be looking at a 49er quarterback starting in the Super Bowl in the first two years of his career. I know it didn't happen, but my guess is the 49ers have a starting QB for the next 10 years.
It's all basically very simple. When will they ever learn. You don't plan to beat the Chiefs. You got to plan on how to handle Mahomes. Not only is he physically the best but he's also the smartest. And only getting smarter. Unfortunately the NFC doesn't offer any great quarterbacks to play & practice against.
Realistically ya'll should've won this game.
They were absolutely dominating the trenches in the first half and should have had at least a 14 point lead.
Even with the mistakes (CMC fumble, incredibly unlucky punt hitting the heel, ridiculously stupid injury to Greenlaw) a single made PAT ends this one in regulation. It's unlikely Mahomes is able to turn that last FG into a TD in that specific situation.
That's the hard part about football though. If you don't capitalize on opportunities and allow the game to come down to sudden death OT Mahomes/Reid/Kelce have that magic sauce that San Fran doesn't.
Also the holding was going both ways I saw multiple times were both offensive lines should've been called.
They shouldn't blow this up or fire Shanahan. Improve a little on the interior o line and you'll be right back in it.

Turns out that Kyle didn’t know the overtime rules he did an interview interview with CBS right after the game and said he wanted the ball first because the police scored a touchdown. Mahomes have a chance to beat them. While the Chiefs practiced what they would do in overtime for weeks.
It was a damn close game the Chiefs came out on top it doesn't matter who was better or who wasn't it's no different than when the Chiefs beat the Eagles or every single time the Patriots won the Super Bowl by three points
One of the fans posted a super chat asking how the Bucs beat KC so easily in SB LV. The answer to that is easy. In the AFC Championship, KC lost both of its offensive tackles to injury. So against Tampa, four of the five offensive linemen were playing out of position. And Mahomes had to have surgery on his foot or his toe (don't remember which) like a week after the game. So he was running for his life the entire game on one foot. And he still pulled off what may have been the most ridiculous throws of his entire career that might have made the game interesting, but his receivers kept dropping those throws, at least two of which would have been touchdowns. I don't know if the Chiefs could have won that game healthy or not. The Bucs pass rush that year was insane, but it sure would have been a more interesting game.
You had to get a 1st down with 2 minutes left. That required keeping Jones etc. Off of Purdy. Fix that. You win. You are not even chipping him..Nothing. That's why you lost. Sort of why you lost to Philly. You just don't keep backs in to chip...Nothing..Zero...Untouched. Bad as Rams

The question “which team wouldn’t change their coach for Kyle?” is an excellent one - basically everyone would want Kyle, you run it back - someone has to lose. The team were ready to play. He didn’t fumble, didn’t miss the kick, had the QB score to put the team up twice at the end… mistakes were made but you run it back.

Why are we talking about BA when we should be talking about our O line
Two major coaching gaffs in my book. Taking the ball in OT under the new rules was THE fatal mistake, absolutely ludicrous decision. I’m convinced Shanahan didn’t realize the significance of the rule change. However, even before that, the Chiefs were lucky enough that on third and four after the two minute warning Shanahan called a pass. That makes sense, most of the time. The problem in this situation is if you fail to get the first down, you leave the chiefs with an extra timeout and basically 40 extra seconds of game time. The extra time AND timeout damn near cost the niners the game in regulation. The better call would have been to run it. First down you eat the clock and win, if you’re close to getting the first down, you might go for it on fourth down, but regardless, a running play would have cost the chiefs a TO at the minimum.
Its always " 'fill in the blank' team has the better team on paper" and "this chiefs team sucks" until the chiefs win and then its "injuries, refs, terrible play calling" blah, blah, blah and never "the chiefs were the better team". It happened last year with the eagles as well
Shanahan is the Doc Rivers of the NFL, the 9ers will never win a ring with him at the helm, time to rebuild for the next 4-5 years and maybe just maybe pick up a new HC.

The only hope for the 9ers lies in like half a decade when hopefully they’ve built up an OL/DL and choke Shanahan is no longer the HC. For now the only team that has a chance against KC is Burrow and the Bengals. This class of 9er is gonna be in dire straights next year with an even better NFC (Lions and Packers), I really like Purdy, so hopefully he can stick around if/when choke Shanahan departs.
