I love Batman and Superman because they're two sides of masculinity. Batman is mentally tough and strategic and Superman is wholesome and kind. We see them fight a lot, and modern media has made them rivals, but they are best friends in the comics because they balance each other out and have a lot in common with each other deep down. I love these videos, and I'd also love to see one on Spider-Man, he's another great example of masculinity because he suffers immensely and never gives up.

Normally when people say " superman is boring". I simply ask if they ever read a Superman comic. When they say no. All I can do is really laugh. I have converted so many people into reading superman just from a few specific issues. As well as a few episodes of JLA. The Christmas episode being my personal favorite. As it just shows Clark being himself and helping Martian man hunter.
It’s funny, the people who claim Superman is boring have no frame of reference for the character except for the Christopher Reeve movies. Never touched a comic a day in their lives and the only villains they know are Lex Luther, Toyman, and General Zod.
There are not many good stories about superman. Among the few : Superman the four seasons, Superman American Alien, Superman Earth one, the first issues of Batman and Superman by Jeff Loeb, Superman New metropolis, first issues of Superman by Philip Kennedy Johnson and .... that is all. Most of his stories are too old school ( John Byrne run) or too boring and that is a fact.
Superman is a wonderful person, he's a good guy at heart. That's the main takeaway. The powers are secondary to his nature, that's why he resonates and why we love him.
James Gunn's Superman has the "It's the 10th time this week Lex Luthor is messing sh!t again... and it's just Wednesday!!" He clearly hates his job. I can relate to.
I hope that ain't true. Superman is supposed to love doing his job. He enjoys helping people. All the Superman solo movies and cartoon series understood that, though DCEU Superman fell off after Man of Steel.
@@chocov1233 not exactly, he does like to help but he would like even more if he doesn't had to because the world was at peace, in his ideal dream world he is just a farmer living a normal life
I remember as a kid, my friends and classmates made fun of me being a Superman fan and also Superman himself. I think even calling him lame... But guess what, this resurgence of love for the big blue boyscout with such purity just gives me so much joy. Superman is meant to be every hopeful and positive thing rolled into one, and that's what I love about him, what we love about him.
I love Superman that Superman is the " Big blue boy scout" that makes him extremely interesting as he could, literally, rule the world due too his power but instead knows that he should use his power too help people or at least not be reckless with it. He's not some b.s. nihilist whoa is me character like some
The thing that gets me most about these memes is that the people doing good in them are not superheroes. They are normal. The problem is the people who wouldn't do that in the same situation. It's not that the person being good is a superman, it's that the person who wouldn't do good is broken. But I do love me some Starman clips.
Superman shows us we can all be the Beacon of Hope for one another. Wholesomeness isn't weakness. Its the foundation of Strength from a Compassionate Heart❤
Superman was my first favorite superhero, then time went by and it varied from Spider-Man to wolverine, red hood, then finally punisher. But after growing up now, making people happy was what I liked doing, making people feel safe, helping them made me realize that superman is the man I wanted to be.
The external factor is huge point which you end on, but you skipped over why Clark is a good guy. The opposite catalyst of the Batman example you give, Clark is good because he was lucky enough to have good parents. Something very rare in fiction and real life. I had a good hearted mother but a shitshow abusive father. I compare my personality to that of my wife's, who had two smart, supportive, and loving parents. The result is she has all the positivity of a character like Superman and I'm like a bootleg Rorschach haha. I strive to hold ideals like Superman, but realistically have seen worse sides of humanity, while Supes was only exposed to the positive in his formative years. It's hard to let go of anger, but we have to try. Happy to hear about the Starman memes and thanks for the video!
I always loved Superman as a kid, and the ide of Gunn directing the movie brings me joy (even though he won’t put Starman song from Bowie in the movie). The only problem I would say is that idea of Spiderman “with great power comes great responsibility”, Spiderman and Batman can only help one city at a time, but Superman is different and I won’t go to detail about his superpowers. I don’t find it boring, but when I think about Superman doing his job as a superhero, I don’t see him fighting the real villains, he only fights “morally black and white” villains, like someone who is definetly bad, like Luthor or Metallo, or whoever. I know for a fact Superman won’t go to free the people of Palestine from the IDF, or save the Uyghurs from the Chinese concentration camps. The movie might be about being a good person or fighting for what’s right, but it won’t be relatable, I’m not gonna see Superman bringing justice, I’ll see him just being wholesome and save Metropolis. And that’s not a wrong thing, it’s perfect for a kid, but not for me.
As a kid, my favorite heroes were Wolverine, Venom, Vegeta, Batman, and Captain America. As an aging man, now they're Cyclops, Spider-Man, Goku, Superman, and Captain America. Captain America someone how managed to break through my edgelord shields as a kid, but the rest, I've just come to appreciate their wholesome honesty. I'm burnt out on cyncism. I just can't do it anymore. I need to see that honest unabashed, unapologetic goodness from now on.
The heart of Superman story is never about Superman being a superpowered alien, but it is about Clark Kent, a farm boy from Kansas who is just trying to help
I love it when Superman's father says, "In time, they will join you in the son Kal" in _Man of Steel_ . He is the ideal for the people of the earth to strive for, and it looks like it is working.
I agree with all you said, except for two things: 1. Batman isn't dark and edgy. He is in dark situation, but he is an aspirational hero just like Superman, although with different methods. He doesn't become Batman out of revenge, but out of courage and determination to fight against the crime and never let anyone face what he had faced when he was a child. Even his parents didn't died, he would still help people no matter what. Yes, he is a vigilante, but it is not his profession, it is what people of Gotham thinks because they are surrounded by crimes and their laws are broken. He is a detective and a dark knight (not a paragon like Superman). He inspires hope, although unlike Superman,he is seen as a horror-figure in his universe until someone meets him. He is mentally stable despite facing the tragedy of his parents' death, not an anti-hero and a psychopath like he is presented and described today. He is dressed as dark to instill fear on criminals, but he still tries to help others by obeying the laws, having a strong moral mode and always doing the right thing no matter what. Superman and Batman aren't different coins, they are in the same coin with different sides. 2. James Gunn has already said about Superman in his interviews. And I'm not making this up. "On Wednesday, Gunn explained that he hesitated to take on a Superman movie, even though he was offered the character before ultimately taking on The Suicide Squad for Warners. “I initially said no because I didn’t have a way in that felt unique and fun and emotional that gave Superman the dignity he deserved,” Gunn wrote on Twitter. “Then a bit less than a year ago I saw a way in, in many ways centering around Superman’s heritage - how both his aristocratic Kryptonian parents and his Kansas farmer parents inform who he is and the choices he makes.” Even after deciding to write, he was hesitant to direct. Explained the filmmaker: "Just because I write something doesn’t mean I feel it in my bones, visually and emotionally, enough to spend over two years directing it, especially not something of this magnitude. But, the long and the short of it is, I love this script, and I’m incredibly excited as we begin this journey.”" - Hollywood Reporter "I really love the idea of Superman. He's a big ol' galoot. He's a farmboy from Kansas who's very idealistic. His greatest weakness is that he'll never kill anybody. He doesn't want to hurt a living soul. I like that sort of innate goodness about Superman; it's his defining characteristic. He's not "All-Star Superman," but again, I'm a huge fan of "All-Star Superman," and I'm very inspired by [that series]." - Slash Film First of all, Superman isn't a big ol' galoot (galoot means someone who is a foolish), he believes in these ideals and not killing anyone isn't his greatest weakness. He knows who he is as a farmboy of Kansas, even finding out to that he is Kryptonian. Yeah he respects his Ktyptonian parents, but he doesn't have identity crisis and neither doesn't dwell on who he is. It's the same as DCEU Superman did and later it is followed in Superman: Man Of Tomorrow animated movie and so on. And neither his Kryptonian parents are aristocratic as he doesn't remember from the start he was in Krypton since he was born in the same time and considered himself as a human when he grows up before the relevation. Gunn himself said this that he wasn't interested to make a Superman movie because he didn't found anything interesting, fun and emotional. He was hesitant to make it until he wrote his own script according to his taste. We can't tell what will be the story of the movie, but we can't ignore what he said silly things about Superman. Other than that, Superman is an aspirational hero. He is a paragon of virtue. He is noble, kind, gentle, compassionate and selfless. He's not a god, he's a human who is having a human heart, despite having extraordinary abilities and biologically being an alien. That's what we can be. He is the one who we should be, can be and are when we do our best. A representation of a high moral standards. We can be good and kind too. Although it's hard to reach that level as he does do perfect (in case of morals) and is consistently good unlike us in real life, we can still our best. Not to be perfect, but be a better person than what we were in yesterday. And that's the message Superman express by his actions. To be strong and good, regardless of the situation.
That explains why I never felt emasculated by any of these podcast or with idea of toxic masculinity. Cause I was never their target audience. I did things for what's right! Idea of masculinity never came to me with these edgy supermans. It always came from The Superman !
I would like to add that Batman isn't necessarily Bruce Wayne's act of vengeance on the crime in Gotham. It is in a way to scare the cowardly and superstitious criminals, but it's more than that. Batman is a beacon of hope to Gotham that he will always be there. For Bruce, he does everything in his power to make sure no one else has to go through anything like he went through. This is why occasionally writers will make him soften up near children while still be cold around adults; he sees himself in them when he was a child, the way he used to be both before and after his parents murder.

This is one reason why My Adventures with Superman is so celebrated. He's a sweet, dorky, endearing young man from Kansas who wants to do good, and just happens to have superpowers

Those issues being?....
@@agm5424off the top of my head, I’d say Birthright and All Star Superman. In that order.
It’s funny, the people who claim Superman is boring have no frame of reference for the character except for the Christopher Reeve movies. Never touched a comic a day in their lives and the only villains they know are Lex Luther, Toyman, and General Zod.
@@Linklex7 Birthright an A.S.S.? The two worst Superman stories of all time that just rub our failures in our faces? Fair enough, I guess.
There are not many good stories about superman. Most of his stories are too old school ( John Byrne run) or too boring and that is a fact.

A good year to be a Superman fan
Superman was my first favorite superhero, then time went by and it varied from Spider-Man to wolverine, red hood, then finally punisher. But after growing up now, making people happy was what I liked doing, making people feel safe, helping them made me realize that superman is the man I wanted to be.
3:07 hol up, he may have a point there🤔😂
The external factor is huge point which you end on, but you skipped over why Clark is a good guy.
Your content is bussin!
The OG superhero
superMAN ❤️
As a kid, my favorite heroes were Wolverine, Venom, Vegeta, Batman, and Captain America. As an aging man, now they're Cyclops, Spider-Man, Goku, Superman, and Captain America. Captain America someone how managed to break through my edgelord shields as a kid, but the rest, I've just come to appreciate their wholesome honesty. I'm burnt out on cyncism. I just can't do it anymore. I need to see that honest unabashed, unapologetic goodness from now on.
The heart of Superman story is never about Superman being a superpowered alien, but it is about Clark Kent, a farm boy from Kansas who is just trying to help
it is a very faithful tribute to superman and i am glad to see he is being popular again after years of homelander
Superbly written essay 👏
Let's Be Honest If People Got Their Powers From Dark Characters Like Omni Man Or Homelander Than They Probably Be A Serious Threat To Society
I love it when Superman's father says, "In time, they will join you in the son Kal" in _Man of Steel_ . He is the ideal for the people of the earth to strive for, and it looks like it is working.
I agree with all you said, except for two things:
“Then a bit less than a year ago I saw a way in, in many ways centering around Superman’s heritage - how both his aristocratic Kryptonian parents and his Kansas farmer parents inform who he is and the choices he makes.”
Even after deciding to write, he was hesitant to direct. Explained the filmmaker: "Just because I write something doesn’t mean I feel it in my bones, visually and emotionally, enough to spend over two years directing it, especially not something of this magnitude. But, the long and the short of it is, I love this script, and I’m incredibly excited as we begin this journey.”" - Hollywood Reporter
"I really love the idea of Superman. He's a big ol' galoot. He's a farmboy from Kansas who's very idealistic. His greatest weakness is that he'll never kill anybody. He doesn't want to hurt a living soul. I like that sort of innate goodness about Superman; it's his defining characteristic. He's not "All-Star Superman," but again, I'm a huge fan of "All-Star Superman," and I'm very inspired by [that series]." - Slash Film
First of all, Superman isn't a big ol' galoot (galoot means someone who is a foolish), he believes in these ideals and not killing anyone isn't his greatest weakness.
YOUR CONTENT IS AMAZING
THANKS MAN
I would like to add that Batman isn't necessarily Bruce Wayne's act of vengeance on the crime in Gotham.
Nice video; you could check these characters in the future: Ultraman and Takeshi Hongo. They too are good cases of positive masculinity.
One of my emntors used to say Tsuburaya (the creator) was contacted by aliens or angels, and the Ultras were a sort of Devil Hunters. I like that idea.
@@nosotrosloslobosestamosreg4115 quoting a video from a guy called Bandan: Ultraman, not as a character but as a concept, represents that within each of us there is a light capable of illuminating the stars, he is the one of hope and light without any intention of defending us, however he made the decision to do so. He is a hero who does not want to get people out of trouble but rather help in battles in which humanity could not win. He is our friend and people's smiles are what he needs the most to know what he is doing well but we must remember that Ultraman is not a God, he is a living being who continues to learn, however, just like his brothers, it will. He fights to the end to protect life instead of using his power to conquer the universe (like the viltrumites from: Invincible) use it to protect others, especially the beings of such a beautiful planet that has brought them so much happiness and that is like their second home.
And Ultraman has achieved all this despite being: A special effects fantasy series
