Yes, but you will get more air inside. I’ve been doing the way you described, gonna try inverted method with less air to see if I get any difference on flavor
The best thing to use this for is to not brew inverted. It prevents any lose of water until you press the plunger it also prevents any chance of leaking from the cap. Think of it as an improved cap not something that can turn your aeropress into an espresso machine
I have the Fellows filter for my Aeropress and recently when inverting the Aeropress the coffee shoots out in a projectile before I can place it on my cup to press.
thanks! doest it matter which way the filter is facing? e.g. when holding the prismo cap in my hand, should the filter logo be facing me or facing my hand? before i attach the prismo to the aeropress.
I have a DF54 grinder and I’m having trouble figuring out the grind settings for prismo, would you recommend espresso fine? The espresso range is 10-30, can you please guide me?
the Fellow Prismo? - I would use this on the coarser end of the espresso range - so if 10-230 is the range - try 20-25 and see how that goes/ It is possible to grind too fine and block up the Aeropress and make it impossible to press down. If it is the opposite happening - you're better off fining up it up a little - but extend the brew time and stir vigorously to increase the extraction.
Hi @alternativebrewing I know this is very old video so dont expect I'll get an answer. But, here goes anyway. I have Vario grinder with numeric 1 to 10 (major) and Alphabetic A to W (= to 1 to 26) (minor) grind settings, e.g. 5M which is middle of both ranges. The smaller the number, the finer the grind and A is fine to W coaser. How can I transfer the numeric settings of most grinders to the Alphanumeric Vario settings? Thanks in advance if you answer.
I use 20 grams with 50mls of water but I've found it's best to agitate the water for upwards of 40 seconds, just stir, stir, stir and when you press, you'll get a nice faux crema.
The step you show at 1:33 (0:24 brew time) is dangerous. I just tried your recipe now and the plunger slipped inside the chamber at this stage and pushed all the way through spraying hot coffee slurry all over me (luckily onto a pair of jeans) and also all over my kitchen. I mean all over, not a little puddle. Might be worth cutting that bit out.
That's what I thought might happen when I saw him doing it. In fact, I consider the entire inverted method a bit unsafe. I always brew in the original position using Tim Wendelboe's stopping technique. I considered getting the Prismo because it promises that there will be no dripping, hence no need for inversion. The crema isn't that impressive at all and it's a cosmetic issue anyway. The crema consists of the coffee it is floating on top of, nothing more, nothing less.
To be fair, that's a danger of the inverted method in general, not just with this product. And as the main benefit of the inverted method is that it prevents early dripping/leakage, and this product prevents that, I find that it's completely unnecessary here.
Too true! But I find in the inverted method I can remove a lot of the excess air out of the brew chamber and have the plunger placed further in - reducing the space needed to press down.
Here goes. Again. There's a learning curve! First go the aero press exploded and hosed the kitchen with hot coffee. LOL. I'm following directions this time. Joshua, that's an energetic presentation! A pleasure to watch and a reminder for me to max out at 2 cups or I blather and get jumpy.
You don't mention the orientation of the metal screen - "Take care to place the Prismo's metal filter "right side up" with the Fellow logo facing you. - from the use instructions that come with the product.
So with the regular filter basket the press can't be stored in pressed position because the rubber needs to poke out the end of the cylinder. With the prismo is this method of storage ok?
You may need to tighten it a little bit more. I find the Fellow Prismo with the metal filter in side does make it a little difficult to screw on to the Aeropress Chamber.
Yes I have - actually I like to try and break thing 😂 see how much it takes... I've put 50g of coffee and 110g boiling water and it did really well but I had to share it - it was too string for me hahaha
That's a great question. You'll discover that the single hole in the Prismo does indeed increase the pressure slightly on extraction vs. the open cap and this does have and added effect on texture and strength of the coffee using the Prismo 👍
Don't you get your shots coming out sour? I've tried with multiple variations of grind size and water ratio. I always go with boiling hot water, but it seems the coffee is still underextracted...
Yes occasionally. Therefor to increase the extraction you can: Agitate more, steep longer, grind finer and drop the dose down a little. Try one or all of them to see what has the best results 👌
@@AlternativeBrewing I have found that not being able to dial in an output ratio using AeroPress, especially with the Prismo, is the biggest deterrent to my liking and using the AeroPress.
it's not that it's totally unnecessary, but it isn't necessary to brew it in the inverted method - in fact you can still brew it both ways. - I brew it in the Inverted method however bc: this way offers less of a final press, less air gap (and overall area where the grinds can sit out of the slurry, up the sides of the chamber walls- after stirring) and I've found when you insert the plunger in to the chamber in the Regular method, it's activates the valve sooner than I'd prefer.
omg! I hadn't seen this till you mentioned it My lunch was just off to the side - I was having Green Thai Curry - they must have loved it as much I me 😂
The Prismo is much better for pressure. HOWEVER: 1. That filter clogs more with the Starbucks Dark Roast, not as much with others. 2. The filter dents easily. I still don't know how it's happening. 3. Did Fellow seriously decline to offer additional filters as replacements? Makes you wonder if they really value their customers. I was bummed that they don't make them available.
Great video, well explained. Just one small critique though, please don't take offense as the video was good on the whole, but it would be better if you stopped bouncing on the tips of your feet. I get that it's a nervous tic but it's a minor distraction.
You are 100% correct. There is no way in hell this thing can produce the proper conditions to make crema. Of course that doesn't stop the hipsters from spewing the word around like they know what they're talking about though does it?
How do you leave a comment like that and not explain it at all? If you have valid, defensible points, then make them and stand by your arguments. Leaving an insult without backing it up is a bit of a cowardly move.
No need to invert with the Prismo, the valve prevents any leakage until pressure is applied!

Yes, it’s suggested to always have the Logo facing up
Why did you use the revers or flip method? With this Prismo, you should be able to add the grounds and water in the normal upright position.
That is true. Force of habit

Es compatible con la delter coffe press o solo con la aeropress?

Awesome! Excited to figure out how to dial in the prismo once I get the ode in. Love your content!
Awesome! Thank you!
Can you use the prismo metal filter with a regular aeropress cap?
No. The Prismo Filter has a large silicon seal around it that lifts the regular filter too far out to be able to screw it back in.
I use 20 grams with 50mls of water but I've found it's best to agitate the water for upwards of 40 seconds, just stir, stir, stir and when you press, you'll get a nice faux crema.
Honestly, this is pretty damn close to espresso. Very cool.

With the Prismo attachment it is not necessary to invert because the Prismo doesn't allow liquid through until you actually apply pressure.
Why are there so many people doing inverted with the prismo if it has a valve that only opens when you press down?
Too true! But I find in the inverted method I can remove a lot of the excess air out of the brew chamber and have the plunger placed further in - reducing the space needed to press down.
They're called hipsters. They make up BS reasons for doing unnecessary things in the hope that people will think they're cool.
I got a Prismo mostly to avoid inversion.

haha 😂 Great job! thanks very much
do i need espresso roasts aswell or filter roasts just fine
Any roast will work. I'd say - if you're trying for espresso than an espresso roast will work better 👌
my prismo is not locking into aeropress go.. the gasket is thick and making it not locking
This is common. You can soak it in some hot water to allow for the gasket to soften up and try again
You don't mention the orientation of the metal screen - "Take care to place the Prismo's metal filter "right side up" with the Fellow logo facing you. - from the use instructions that come with the product.
Hi, can this brew the same way as a normal aeropress recipe?
Yes you can!
So with the regular filter basket the press can't be stored in pressed position because the rubber needs to poke out the end of the cylinder. With the prismo is this method of storage ok?
no - you're still unable to press the plunger down all the way with the cap on.
Why does my coffee leak to the sides while using the prismo?
You may need to tighten it a little bit more. I find the Fellow Prismo with the metal filter in side does make it a little difficult to screw on to the Aeropress Chamber.
Wish I knew about not needing to invert. Just ruined my first batch and burnt myself just a tad bit
Have you tried to create double shots with fellow?
Yes I have - actually I like to try and break thing 😂 see how much it takes... I've put 50g of coffee and 110g boiling water and it did really well but I had to share it - it was too string for me hahaha
How does the taste compare with a normal aeropress cap with the same recipe?
That's a great question. You'll discover that the single hole in the Prismo does indeed increase the pressure slightly on extraction vs. the open cap and this does have and added effect on texture and strength of the coffee using the Prismo 👍
Would this fit on the aeropress go and still pack up properly?
No I wouldn't imagine it could.
Can this be used on the delter coffee press?
I'm afraid not sorry.

Great question ... better for filming I guess - but can be done either way - certainly need to be more careful flipping it inverted
Hi, is fellow prismo suitable to the aeropress go ?
Yes 👌
@@AlternativeBrewing Thank you 😊
@@AlternativeBrewing is it stiff? I want to buy one
@@F91-l9o yes it is
why am I getting some grinds in my cup? too fine?
Yes -too fine and possibly pushing too hard 👍
Make sure you put the cup on top _before_ you flip the it over like he does in the video, otherwise you’ll turn your aeropress into a squirt gun
this is true!!! OMG the hot water builds up pressure and just goes everywhere otherwise
Boling water squirt gun :(
Why aren't you using output ratio like with using an actual espresso machine, E.G. 18 grams in and 36 or 54 grams out instead of using input ratio?
Occasionally I'll volumetric brew when it's filter coffee. Not ideal I know, but just sometimes i just like brewing wildly 😀
@@AlternativeBrewing I have found that not being able to dial in an output ratio using AeroPress, especially with the Prismo, is the biggest deterrent to my liking and using the AeroPress.

@@AlternativeBrewing That makes so much sense, thanks for explaining!
@@AlternativeBrewing cool
@@AlternativeBrewing I'll have to try it your way. The valve is activated too soon the regular way, thus lowering the pressure too much.
