if a foreigner working in another country and expect the company there to write up another report or operating procedure or meeting note just for you is expecting too much because I am certain there is no american company will even consider doing that for a chinese person.
Some of the points you shared do exist. Generally, the spitting is mostly the middle-aged and elderly, and the young people will be less. The point of speaking loudly is well analyzed. Most of the time we are not arguing, but getting used to this way of speaking around us and being affected. In China, various apps are easy to use, and there are various translators, which have both advantages and disadvantages for foreigners. There is no need to scold this youtuber. It is believed that with the increase in the number of educated people and the introduction of national laws, some bad phenomena can be improved.^_^

umm I think u guys already been there 8years but don't know speak chinese? omg why? I think if u want know china or cultures u need learn right? like some one Woking at France we need learn French and there culture

I think there has been a slight misunderstanding. I do speak Chinese but not as fluent as my english for example. When you work for companies and have a majority of foreign friends that mostly speak English, your progression is not as fast as it could have been( and this is the same everywhere). I do wanted to refer to this example though because I met foreigners living in China for 10+ years and sadly not trying to even speak Chinese, which I find it sad but a reality of the life in Shanghai sometimes.
yeah I heard that in Shanghai foreigners doesn't need speak Chinese ，but in Beijing they are speak Chinese very well lol

I really take exception when any foreigner complain that stuff are not bilingual and Chinese prefers to have everything in Chinese. I worked in the US and UK and not once have I seen a bilingual sign or paper in my office. Always in English, which "pisses me off" to quote YOU! If you think the whole country should bend to your preference, then I suggest you leave China. Thank you very much. Go home, work on getting your home country to include Chinese in everything... If bilingualism is so important to you.
When you work for an international company working both communities, it makes sense have certain things in both languages. Especially if the companies expect to attract foreign talents or clients 🤣 Extrapolating my argument about sharing my work experience in SOME companies as if I said the country should bend is HILARIOUS! Thank you for the good laugh :)
@@SoSab I am Chinese and I worked in UK as well. Didn't you read the part where I said, the company won't have bilingual signs or reports etc etc? I didn't work in the local Fish&chips but for a multi billion $ international company. (American) BTW, listen to your own gripe.
@@hclau218 I am sorry to contradic you again but my former company ( Chinese conglomerate) and my current company were sending those in bilingual, though I believe I am not even referring to documents in my video.
Once again SOME companies I have worked for in the past 8 years in China, pretending to have a international working culture but don't take in consideration the international's employee voice when it comes to their own culture at work, are the one that I am talking about and I believe I am referring to this in the video.
I am a french born in a double culture, speaking fluently 4 different languages and have lived in more than 1 asian country.
I do understand your point though, I am not sure though when you were working in Uk your target market was focused in UK or/and China and where the heads were from? I'm curious to know :) Because if the heads are foreigners, there are higher chance to have most of the document translated I think.
I work for an international company in the US and there are many foreigners working there. Everything is English. Nothing is bilingual. No English, no hire.
As a Chinese I totally agree with you😂😂😂😂 Spit on the ground！！！Chinese also think that is disgusting!! most of them are the olders who don’t have great education….. Young people rarely engage in such uncivilized behavior anymore

I guess most of the things that bother you are because there are too many people live in China. and all problems are magnified by the large number of people😢😢😢like you always be pushed on the subway, they speak loudly…..
Hi, thank you very much for your video. It’s so informative and helpful to me. I’d love to watch more videos about the working environment there cuz I am planning to go to Shanghai for working. Is the working culture you just shared happening in MNC enterprises? How can expats get along well with the local colleagues? Thank you
Working for a MNC enterprises in China doesn't necessarily mean that all employees speaks English properly but depending on the percentage of foreign in the company the working culture can be close to what we are familiar with. I think the best way to along with you colleagues is to try your best to speak their language if possible. When comes to working with them I would say that when your colleague answers with simple and short answer, keep on asking questions to understand the reasoning behind that simple answer.

Yep, you guys absolutely right I went to Koun ming in 1992 way back in time Chinese people are spitting a lot on the street in front of restaurants etc good luck guys
I dont mean to be rude but lets say you dont speak english but go to USA or Canada or Australia, it obviously will be very very hard to live. It should be no different to moving to a mandarin speaking country, I understand that it isnt easy but not everyone is gonna speak english
You are not rude at all :) I agree with you. I don’t expect all companies to speak English 100% although I do work somewhere where English and mandarin is equally used and all meeting and document are translated in both languages. BUT I wanted to point this out in my video because it’s been 9 years I have been leaving in Shanghai and I have heard a lot from foreigners having an issue with this. So I wanted to point it out for those who may not understand the degree of language barrier.
Yeah this is because China is self sufficient, so they do not really need to learn english as badly as other asian countries, I think Japan is the same...also very self sufficient

Yes! I get tricked by food here a lot. It will look really delicious but i buy it and take a bite and it tastes completely different than what I was expecting.

Thank you for your concern but my adventures in China isn't over. I'm excited to discover more and understand more about it. I am grateful for all the opportunities ans challenges that I had and this chapter of my life there isn't over yet ;)
@@SoSab I don't understand the "leave if you don't like it" attitude. Every place has things you like and dislike, and so does China. As long as what you say is true, the Chinese welcome you to point out their shortcomings. I enjoyed your video and hope you will continue to live and work in China. Don't pay attention to the "leave if you don't like it" argument, just do your job.

@@SoSab If you want to learn Chinese very well, then you must learn some ancient Chinese. One third of Chinese students' language courses are in ancient Chinese. Of course if you only want to learn to the extent that you can communicate with Chinese people on a daily basis, then you don't need to learn ancient Chinese.

Pretty much sounds about right haha. I don't live in China (was born there, moved away when very young), so I understand the culture and how people are with trying to "not lose face." Kudos to you guys for being able to handle all that, lol.
Thanks, I think, to be able to live in a foreign country, it is important to acknowledge the straights and flaws in order to accept them eventually :)
Obviously learning the language will go a long way. There are still things to improve and despite not having been to China and of Malaysian Chinese descent, I hear that the smoking is a very annoying habit as I am a non smoker and hate smoking with a penchant. The other thing is the bad habit of having the tee shirt exposing the mid rib of the men to cool themselves down. Yes, the paperwork to do with the visa renewal should be streamlined and made readily accessible online to make the whole process as smooth as possible instead of being so bureaucratic. Thanks for highlighting things to improve as most responsive society will remove such barriers to development. I hope the power to be take note and remove any barriers to the society development. Happy 15th Day of the Chinese New Year known as Chap Goh Mei.
Yeah, the cheap Chinese cigarette smells awful !! But thankfully in a majority of indoor places, smoking isn't allowed.
