    I remember the video where you rescued Mom in the Camry with a starter that was going out. I'm pretty sure that's the first time I learned she had cancer. Have wanted to inquire but afraid to ask how she is doing. So glad she is still with you and God willing she will be for years to come.

    Just a guess but the misfire values on your scan tool appear to be in Hexadecimal. Using a Hex to decimal converter, the 0a3d standard value listed on your scanner converts to 2621. The 0c05 test value on your tool for cylinder 2 converts to 3077 which is higher than 2621. All of the other cylinders have a converted test value less than 2621.

    • @benjaminrich9396
      @benjaminrich9396 10 місяців тому +4

      Definitely. Like a nerd I converted them all earlier myself. God we're sad. haha. I'm probably missing something, but 2621 Seems an oddly high threshold of what misfire count gets classed as a "FAIL" not an "OK" for the "VALUE". Especially as, given it threw a p0300 not just a p0302, it must have decided on some level those other cylinders' non zero misfire counts were still too much. :)

      @ScannerDanner  10 місяців тому +5

      Thank you!

    • @ScannerDanner
      @ScannerDanner  10 місяців тому +4

      It is super common to have a single cylinder misfire record false misfiring events on other cylinders. Just an FYI
      and that's what was happening here for sure. Thanks!

    • @Discretesignals
      @Discretesignals 10 місяців тому

      That is because the tool is showing them as type A (TID $54) misfires in the list which has a set threshold of 2621 events per 200 revolutions of the crank. Type A misfires are considered catalyst damaging which #2 cylinder is. If his tool showed TID $55, you would see the type B misfire counts and threshold. Type B misfires are counted every 1000 revolutions of the crank. Type B misfires are considered emissions damaging, but not catalyst damaging. P0300 is showing up because there are other cylinders breaching the type B threshold. TID $53 would show both type A and type B misfire counts. @@benjaminrich9396

    So when you were looking up the Mode 06 data and all the cylinder misfires, its like a code used under certain manufacturers of the scan tool I'd say. I also wonder if it can go to Landscape mode instead of just vertical which may make things easier to clarify for you. I would only pay attention though to that cylinder 2 on Mode 6 where it said "Failed." I could be wrong too, but just trying to help ya out somewhat.

    It would be interesting to see if it's a bad coil, bad plug or bad coil boot. These Triton engines whether it be a 4.6, 5.4 or the 6.8L, it's best to use Motorcraft plugs and change all of the boots on the coils. Heat is the enemy for those boots, and they do break down over time and allow spark to arc out to the cylinder head. I get it though; these are the heads that have maybe 3 or 4 threads holding the plugs in. If the owner has anywhere around 80-90k miles on that engine, he will probably start having other issues as far as misfires go. Back when I had my 98 F-150 with the 5.4L, that's about when my issues started. Well wishes to your Mom Paul.

    Techs who think they do not need a scope have no idea what they are missing. Using Lab scopes has literally mad my life for the better. I have excelled at work because of the utilization of scopes and have been rewarded for it very well. It has made me enjoy my trade so much more . In industrial generator work lab scopes also help with power quality analysis. I am always showing how my scope has helped troubleshoot some really difficult problems in hopes that the other techs will catch on but unfortunately I have had no one interested enough to get one.

    Sorry to hear about your mom. I lost my mom at the age of 57 so do everything that your mom needs you to because one day you will wake up and she won't be there. But tell your mom to eat a lot of Dark leafy greens but don't boil them. Steaming them is best . But greens and onions and garlic and pepper are all great things for her . And have her drink this green juice called Naked green machine . Everything I just Suggested has cancer fighting property's in them. So eating them with the treatments should make everything better for her. I miss my mom and I hope you have yours for a long time.

    Had similar misfires on an 03 V10 box truck with a lot more miles. It's a 22 year old truck and if one coil is going out, the others aren't far behind. Access to them on these vans is a big pain, so it makes sense to knock them all out at once and be good for another 20 years. And this is not the time to cheap out on the parts. OEM Motorcraft only, or don't bother at all.

      at $120 a coil from Ford, I wouldn't be dropping over $1000 in coils on this. But I understand your point too

      @@ScannerDannerrockauto doesn't make any parts, they're just a reseller like any parts store. It's no different than ordering Motorcraft from Orielly or chinesium dorman. It's people choosing the cheapest chinesium parts available that is the problem, rockauto gets the blame. ACDelco, Mopar, Motorcraft are often available on rockauto when no local suppliers can source them for our shop. We order from dealers, but he's right, those older parts are well below the cost from the dealership for the same part.

    Great lesson ! Thanks !! It was perfect when your mom said ; about the barn ; “that’s where animals go “ ! How apt !! 🎯 You could not have scripted it any better than that . 👌🏼 . Just like you Paul - I was a little “animal” in my youth too ! 😆👍🏼

    Paul, what's the story on that Pinto next to the "barn"? Been watching you since you began near 20 years ago. You've been a blessing to the industry - and humanity. The energy of our Maker absolutely radiates from your mom. God bless her and thank you.

      it's my neighbors car (the one with the RV) he is an electrician and was going to put an electric powertrain in it. Not sure what his plans are with it now. It's been sitting there for a long time

    Thanks so much for taking us with you "Back Home" and so thankful to hear that your Mom is still doing well, Thank God. I had to laugh when you showed us "The Barn" and mentioned good times there and I had a stable that was my early years "Laboratory" and since it had electricity I was able to learn about it at an early age (thank God I made it out alive...lol). I remember taking the electric motor out of her vacuum and then not being able to get it back in and so I hid the motor and figured that she wouldn't notice (Moms always seem to notice though don't they?) Great times and memories and I wish you and your Mom many more.
